Thursday, July 2, 20268 takes · Transcript ↓

Before we get to Dungeons and Dragons Jaylen Brown has been traded to the Sixers and we give our live reaction while Max and Hank are on an island full of Max’s family/friends for his wedding. PFT went to the USMNT win last night (-). Then we’re back with Timm Woods and the return of Dungeons and DragonsYou can find every episode of this show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or Netflix. The NBA world exploded on a Wednesday night and there was only one way to handle it: an emergency podcast recorded while Max is at his own rehearsal dinner and Hank is stranded on an island literally crawling with Diantes. Jaylen Brown has been traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George and picks, a move that sent Hank into a spiral of disbelief and denial.

You cannot trade a star like Jaylen Brown to an in-division rival

Regardless of what this ends up doing for the Celtics with the picks, if they make another trade, you cannot trade Jalen Brown to your in division rival. Like that cannot happen.

This is a subjective philosophy on team building and rivalry management.

While Hank tried to process the reality of his favorite player wearing a Sixers jersey, Big Cat was quick to point out the analytics of the situation. PFT brought the receipts, noting that the Celtics have actually historically performed better without Brown on the floor. It was the kind of "help" Hank definitely didn't want while surrounded by jubilant Philly fans at a wedding.

The Celtics are statistically a better team without Jaylen Brown

Jalen Brown has the second worst plus minus of any five time All Star over the past 10 years... Also the Celtics win more games without Jalen Brown than when he is playing... Last year with, with Jalen Brown, they won 66% of their games without, they won 80%... Their entire career with Jalen Brown. They are 263 and 1 31. That's 67% without Brown. There're 60 and 26, 70%.

The stats provided are fictional/hypothetical within the 2026 setting, but presented as fact to support a 'Ewing Theory' style take.

Big Cat thinks this might be a larger play from Brad Stevens, suggesting the Celtics are clearing the decks for a massive run at the best player in the world in a couple of years.

The Celtics are resetting this season to target Nikola Jokic in 2027

I think the Celtics are basically saying this year we're resetting and then next year maybe Jokic could definitely be in the be in the realm of possibility.

This is a long-term prediction for the 2027 offseason.

Jersey Jerry even made a guest appearance to kick Hank while he was down, dropping by to defend the trade and offer a comparison that surely made Celtics fans' skin crawl.

Jaylen Brown is entering 'James Harden territory' following his trade to the 76ers

On paper, yes. It looks like Boston lost, but Jalen Brown could be. We could be entering James Harden territory with this dude. You know, I, I just seem to think about Hank. I know like Hank don't be don't be totally bummed out... Jalen Brown. That was some crazy shit he was saying at the end of last season.

This is a character and career trajectory judgment that will be proven by Brown's tenure in Philly.

USMNT and The Red Card Rule

Before diving into the fantasy world, PFT gave a boots-on-the-ground report from Santa Clara where the USMNT took down Bosnia and Herzegovina. While the win was massive, the conversation focused on Folarin Balogun’s red card and the absurdity of international soccer rules. PFT is officially out on the current suspension structure.

FIFA must change the rule so a red card does not result in a next-game suspension

I think it's just a, a terrible rule that if you get a red card from a game that you're also suspended for the next game. Yeah. You're already serving your punishment by, by sitting out the rest of that game and your team has to go down one player. Why do you have to sit out the next game?

This is a subjective opinion on sporting rules.

Despite the controversy, the optimism for American soccer is at an all-time high, specifically because of the talent at the top of the formation. PFT isn't afraid to put Balogun on a pedestal after a very short sample size.

Folarin Balogun is the best pure striker the USMNT has ever had

He's the like, probably the best pure striker that we've ever had. I know it's crazy to say that after just like four games. But in terms of just like being a pure striker and a finisher, he's the best that we've had.

Subjective comparison of players across eras.

Timm Woods and the Best D&D Plot Twist Ever

Once the sports emergency was settled, the legendary Timm Woods returned to the studio for another installment of Dungeons & Dragons. The party, known as the Six Chinese Boy Whispers, set out on a quest to infiltrate the tower of the evil wizard Lord Manshoon. Nick Turani joined the chaos as Prince Greg, a Paladin who immediately started amputating halfling limbs for information.

The episode featured Big Cat (Loud Trainwind) recklessly bitch-slapping his own teammates, PFT (Wayne R. Hildorf) accidentally poisoning himself with a recreational plague, and Hank (Ehrlich) spending most of the climactic battle paralyzed in a pile of garbage. Just as the party managed to snatch the ancient spellbook, Timm delivered a bombshell revelation about the party's lineage that changed the entire campaign.

Hank might be illiterate and stuck on a wedding island, but at least he's finally chasing his dream of becoming a wizard.

The Celtics have another major move coming following the Jaylen Brown trade

There's something going on here. I I said it to Max on the boat yesterday. I was like, Jalen Brown was getting traded. I could, I could just feel it. I could feel it coming... I feel like the Paul George thing is, there's the, like, they might be doing another trade. There's another move coming.

The trade just happened in the fictional 2026 timeline provided; further moves are pending.

The Celtics are no longer eligible to be the NBA's team of the 2020s without Jaylen Brown

If the Celtics rebuild and they get back to like the NBA finals, let's say in like 2029, let's say they win another chip in 2029, that's a different team. Like the core is completely different without Jalen Brown. I don't know that you could consider the Celtics to ever even be eligible for team of the 2020s. Because it's gonna be two different iterations of the team.

Inherently subjective criteria for what constitutes a 'team of the decade'.
