Matthew and Brady Tkachuk on Gold Medals and Seth MacFarlane on Ted
Big Cat is starting the month of March by ending it. Before the tournament even gets moving, he has seen enough from Duke to declare the race for the national title officially over. After Duke throttled NC State, Big Cat is convinced we are looking at a team that has reached a statistical level of dominance not seen since the late nineties.
Duke is the best team in the country and it would be an all-time failure if they don't win the title
This is the best team in the country. It would be an all time epic failure if Duke doesn't win the national title. They are the first time I believe that a team has reached plus 40 in Ken Palm since 1999. Duke... This team has it all.
PFT immediately raised the stakes, noting that the pressure on the Blue Devils is now astronomical. If they don't finish the job, the legacy of this core will be defined by their inability to win the big one when it matters most.
If Duke loses this year, they will be a dynasty of chokers
If they lose this year, that would without question be the best two year... they'd be a dynasty of chokers. Like back to back all time choking losses in the NCAA tournament. I hope that doesn't happen, PFT. We would've never seen anything close to this before.
While Big Cat thinks Duke failing to win it all would be a bigger story than OJ in the white Bronco, PFT is keeping his eyes on a few other contenders. He is buying stock in Purdue and Nebraska to spoil the party, while Big Cat is already preparing to fade Arizona due to the coaching tree lineage.
Arizona's Tommy Lloyd is a candidate to choke in March because he is a Mark Few disciple
Tommy Lloyd being a Mark Few disciple, even though Arizona is really, really, really good. Yeah. I'm just like, that guy's getting choke in March.
Breaking Moos and Free Agency Rumors
The Bears took a massive hit before free agency even officially began. Starting center Drew Dalman announced his retirement at just 27 years old, leaving a gaping hole in the middle of an offensive line that was supposed to be a strength for whoever is under center next year. Big Cat went through all the stages of grief in real-time, oscillating between being happy for the man's health and being terrified for the Bears' draft board.
Drew Dalman's retirement is a massive blow to the Bears' offensive line
The first instant reaction was fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. Then you have to be a human about it and realize like, hey, the guy's able to walk away while he still feels healthy. That's awesome for Drew Dalman. And then it's right back to fuck, fuck, fuck. Because... the offensive line was a significant strength... and now they go into the draft and it's like, fuck.
In other NFL news, the guys looked at the quarterback carousel. While PFT floated a wild scenario involving the Jets trading the farm to move up for Fernando Mendoza, Big Cat is keeping a close eye on the Eagles. Despite having Jalen Hurts, he thinks the front office might revert to their old ways of drafting a project signal-caller earlier than people expect.
The Eagles will draft a quarterback in the early rounds
I think they might draft a quarterback. ... What if you fell it to the second, what if you fell to the second max? Like there's been a history in Philadelphia of drafting guys in the second round when you don't really necessarily think that they're in the market for a quarterback
American Heroes: Matthew and Brady Tkachuk
Fresh off their gold medal win in Milan, the Tkachuk brothers joined the show to talk about the greatest three-week bachelor party of their lives. The camaraderie of Team USA was on full display, with stories of sleeping in the Olympic village, playing cards every night, and the "Golden Brothers" group chat with the Hughes family. Matthew Tkachuk didn't hold back on the talent level of his teammates, specifically the guys who helped clinch it in overtime.
Jack and Quinn Hughes are the two best three-on-three players in the NHL
I think that Jack and Quinn, honest to God are maybe at their positions the best three on three player. I'll throw Mc David in there too, obviously, but like for a forward and for a defenseman, like they have to be the two best in three on three, like in the NHL.
They touched on the legendary celebrations at 11 in Miami and the feeling of finally beating Canada on the world stage. Brady also shared the harrowing story of his sleep paralysis in the village, which Matthew naturally found hilarious while it was happening. The guys discussed how this specific team changed the trajectory of USA hockey, with Big Cat noting that their legacy will be a talking point for decades to come.
The 2026 US Olympic Hockey team will be remembered for generations
I'm sure in 40, 50 years they'll, they'll, they'll love for us to, to come talk to that, that group of players. But it, it really was a life-changing tournament. ... they'll be talking about our team for, for generations.
Seth MacFarlane and 10 Years of PMT
Seth MacFarlane joined the program to talk about Season 2 of Ted on the Cock (Peacock). He gave a fascinating look into the technical grind of animation, explaining that a single 22-minute episode can take a full year to produce. Despite his success in live-action, he remains a champion for the animators who have to make a creative judgment call on every single frame.
Directing animation is much harder than directing live action
I will tell you, having directed live action and having directed animation... it is a lot harder to do the second one. ... animation itself has not gotten any easier. It's, it, it still requires the human brain to make a judgment call every few frames with regard to what's right for the moment.
To wrap things up, the guys spent some time reflecting on the 10-year anniversary of the show. They read stories from AWLs who grew up with the podcast, including listeners who started at 14 and are now entering the workforce as full-grown adults. Big Cat joked about the sociological damage the show has done to the sports world over the last decade, wondering if future historians will trace the decline of fan intelligence back to their Mount Rushmore debates.
Pardon My Take has likely had a negative sociological effect on the intelligence of sports fans over the last 10 years
Our final boss should be some detailed researched article that is like the effective, Pardon My Take on sports fans. Like a negative thing. ... they can trace it back to all these kids that were listening when they were 12 and now they're fucking idiots as grown adults and they're going to games.
Happy Birthday to Memes and George Pickens.
