Modern NBA stars would still be considered 'soft' in the 90s era

If these guys [international players] would have came in during my era, they'd still be soft. Because there was a different era where—guys, you know, you wasn't running over to the monitor because some guys say I got a hit in the head... It makes me so mad now when you see these guys.

This is an unprovable generational comparison commonly made by retired players.

Coach K’s empire at Duke is officially crumbling

We're totally sidetracking that Duke is—the whole entire empire is crumbling, Hank. Coach K has nothing. He has nothing left.

Duke finished 13-11 in 2021 and missed the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1995. Coach K retired a year later.

Jalen Johnson is a quitter for opting out of the Duke season

[Jalen Johnson] is a quitter. However, as a Dookie, a diehard Cameron Crazy runs in my blood... If they had a shot, even a chance—they're clearly not going to make the tournament. They're terrible this year. If it was like they were even a bubble team or close to a bubble team and he quit now, it'd be like, alright, fuck this guy forever.

Johnson literally did quit the team mid-season, so the factual part is correct; the value judgment is subjective.

Kyle Trask is Kirk Cousins with Tom Brady upside

I'm working on Kyle Trask right now... I'm thinking Kirk Cousins... That's a mid-level. Tom Brady upside.

Trask has been a career backup and has not shown Tom Brady-level talent or even Kirk Cousins-level starting consistency.

Players-only meetings are for losers

In my mind, team meetings are for losers because right now you're floundering in the wind, you're getting ready to point some fingers, and people's feelings get hurt in team meetings. If you just talk about it on a constant basis, you get used to it.

This is a subjective philosophy on coaching and leadership from a multi-time champion.

James Harden handled his exit from the Rockets poorly

Every scenario is different. And in James' way, I think—I love James as a player, I think he handled it wrong... For them to actually still bend over backwards for this guy and send him to where he wants to go shows you how much love they have for him... You should respectfully go to the organization that's done everything for you and do it quietly.

Harden's exit was widely criticized by NBA legends for his lack of professionalism, supporting Horry's viewpoint.

1999-2000 Shaquille O'Neal was the most dominant player in NBA history

That 2019, 2000 Shaq was probably the most dominant player ever in the NBA because he was in shape. He had no injuries and, he was scared of Phil, and so he wanted to win a championship.

Statistical and historical consensus often ranks Shaq's 2000 season as one of the most dominant individual stretches ever.
