Texas is 'back' because their defense is finally legitimate

I'm counting Texas as back because their defense played better than they've played in, I don't know, 15 years. I can't even remember the last time that defense was 100% legit. It was awesome.

Texas finished 8-5 in 2022, a step forward but hardly 'back' to national championship contention until the following year.

Mike McCarthy is trying to get fired so Jerry Jones can hire Sean Payton

I think [McCarthy] has been trying to get fired for a while now. And he's doing everything that you would do if you were a coach trying to get fired, knowing that Jerry Jones is just gonna hire Sean Payton probably already has a handshake deal.

McCarthy remained the coach for two more seasons, while Sean Payton eventually went to the Broncos. McCarthy was not fired in the 2022 season.

The Patriots are no longer a perennial Super Bowl favorite

I'm think I'm just ready to fully admit that the Patriots are not the Patriots anymore. Yeah. They're not the Patriots that I grew up since I was nine years old... If the Patriots make the playoffs, that's a winning season.

Since this episode, the Patriots have struggled significantly, failing to win a playoff game and eventually moving on from Belichick.

Jahan Dotson is a good bet for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year

The past the passes to Johan Dotson were awesome. And Johan Dotson is I'm. I would put a future on him to get rookie of the year.

Garrett Wilson won the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Dotson had a solid season but was not the winner.

Michigan was definitively the better team in the National Championship and it never felt like UConn was in danger of winning.

Michigan was the better team. We all saw it. It never felt like [the game] was in danger. Like the only moment that I was like, oh, UConn might have a chance, was when there was like maybe five and a half minutes left and Mullens missed that three to cut it to four.

The episode presents Michigan winning the 2026 National Championship as a fact within the show's timeline.

Michigan was the best team all year — outside of Duke, who would have won the championship by a lot

They were the best team. They were the best team all year outside of Duke. 'Cause that actually was my other big takeaway — Duke just completely, Duke beat this Michigan team a month and a half ago.

Subjective comparison of team quality. Duke did beat Michigan during the regular season in 2025-26.

Danny Hurley is 18-1 against the spread in his last four NCAA tournaments, which is insane

Danny Hurley remains 18 and one in the last four tournaments against the spread. How insane is that? Furman is the only one that they didn't cover. That was the first round this year.

This is a factual claim about Hurley's ATS record over the last four NCAA tournaments. Based on UConn's remarkable tournament run, this is plausible and presented as a known stat. Cannot fully verify exact record but the claim is stated as fact.
