CFB Mega Preview with Tom Fornelli & Brandon Walker plus Joey Chestnut
Football is officially back. The air is different, the slate is full, and the guys are already arguing about quarterback win totals. With the Patriots naming Jacoby Brissett the starter over Drake Maye, PFT is surprisingly high on the veteran, while Big Cat remains a bit more skeptical about the ceiling in New England.
Jacoby Brissett is an eight-win quarterback guy under the radar
[Jacoby Brissett] is a good quarterback. He'll get you probably eight wins if he starts the entire season... I'm just saying Jacoby Brissett feels like an eight-win quarterback guy under the radar.
Jacoby Brissett is a 'tread water' quarterback, not an eight-win guy
I wouldn't say he's an eight win quarterback. I think he's a get you a couple wins in, like your starter goes down. Jacoby Brissett comes in, he can tread water. He's a tread water guy. He's a three and four guy.
While the Commanders and Bears have their shiny new rookies under center, Hank is trying to convince himself that watching a bridge quarterback for eighteen weeks is actually a good thing for his mental health.
I won't get FOMO about Drake Maye sitting because the Patriots are in a rebuilding year
I'm not gonna get FOMO about Drake Maye not starting. Our offensive line's bad. I think our roster's not great. It's okay. It's a rebuilding year. I think you let's embrace it for what it is.
The CFB Mega Preview
To get the season started right, the show featured the first-ever meeting of the minds between Tom Fornelli and Brandon Walker. Big Cat pulled a fast one on Brandon, telling him he was the show's exclusive college football expert before Tom walked through the door. Once the egos settled, they got into the meat of the new 12-team playoff era.
College football is better off with a 12-team playoff and it doesn't diminish the regular season
I think this day is a long time coming for college football. Anybody that says college football is worse off for the playoff is lying or just grifting... it doesn't diminish the regular season at all. It makes us have way more games that matter in November.
Brandon Walker wasn't shy about his disdain for the current state of Florida State after their Week 0 performance, while Tom Fornelli still sees a path for Dabo Swinney and Clemson to reclaim the ACC throne despite a lack of transfer portal activity.
Florida State is just an average football team, not a playoff contender
That team that we saw play on Saturday [Florida State] is not a playoff team in a 14-format, a 12-team format, a 30-team format. That's an average football team we saw.
Clemson will win the ACC
I have Clemson winning the ACC too. I do think receiver-wise they're gonna be better than they were last year... I think Dabo can win the ACC without using the portal because I don't think the ACC is that good.
As they moved through the conferences, the Big 12 emerged as a potential mess. Tom Fornelli is predicting total carnage where no one escapes unscathed, while Brandon thinks Utah is in for a rude awakening regarding their physicality.
Utah will lose its toughness advantage moving from the Pac-12 to the Big 12
Utah's main advantage in the Pac-12 was physicality... they could bully those teams. Now most of the Big 12, you probably can do that too, but you ain't doing that to Kansas State... Oklahoma State. That toughness advantage is gone now.
No team in the Big 12 will finish with fewer than three losses
My hot take about the Big 12 is that nobody is coming outta that league with fewer than three losses. I think it's gonna be a one-bid league.
SEC Delusions and Heisman Hype
The move of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC was a major talking point. While most of the national media is gargling Longhorn water, the experts on the couch have some serious reservations about Sark's squad handling the trenches in a new neighborhood.
Oklahoma will finish with a better SEC record than Texas in their first year
Oklahoma finishes with a better SEC record than Texas. I think Jackson Arnold will be a step forward for them... my concerns about Texas are shared.
Half the fanbases in the SEC are delusional about their playoff chances this year
There's eight fan bases in the SEC that think they're going to [the] playoff this year... of those two [Ole Miss and Missouri]... [Missouri is] an eight and four team... Texas A&M, that's delusional.
When it came to individual stars, Tom Fornelli didn't hesitate to crown a new king in Knoxville. He’s already holding the ticket on Nico Iamaleava to win the Heisman, and he’s not listening to any arguments to the contrary.
Nico Iamaleava is the best quarterback in the country
I'm telling you, Nico's [Iamaleava] the best quarterback in the country. Size-wise, talent-wise, ability-wise, fit in the offense that he's in... I already have the future on Nico's Heisman.
Joey Chestnut vs. The World
American hero Joey Chestnut joined the show to clear the air about the Nathan's 4th of July controversy and preview his Labor Day showdown with Kobayashi. Joey isn't just looking to win; he’s looking to remind everyone why he's the greatest athlete on the planet by putting up a number that makes the betting lines look ridiculous.
I am going to eat over 66 hot dogs and smash the world record against Kobayashi
I'm gonna smash [the record]. I'm gonna eat more hot dogs than ever before... Right now the over-under is like 66, and I'm gonna blow that out.
Mount Rushmore: Things in a College Guy's Apartment
The summer season wrapped up with a battle for the standings between PFT and Hank. The list was a nostalgic trip through filth, featuring picks like "Liquor Bottle Decor," "Full-Size Trash Cans," and "The Mismatched Shot Glass Collection." PFT may have fumbled the goal line with "Random Dude on the Couch," leading to a potential playoff duel on Monday.
Max closed out the show with a Fyre Fest about his new neighbor’s dog having separation anxiety at 6:15 AM every morning, which is a tough break for a guy who already struggles with his temperament.
Get your units ready, because the greatest four months of the year are finally here.
