CFB With Brandon Walker, CFP Rankings, Patriots Crush The Giants, Hot Seat/Cool Throne + Listener FAQ's

Wednesday, December 3, 202519 takes

The CFP rankings are out and James Madison is finally ranked in the Top 25. We talk about the dumb committee rankings (-) and then talk MNF with the Patriots killing the Giants (-). More coaching carousel and Hot Seat/Cool Throne including the Steelers in a bad bad place and Lebron stat padding plus we try to figure out F1 for the thousandth time (-). Brandon Walker joins the show to talk rivalry week, Lane Kiffin out of his state, his predictions for this year, why he's obsessed with Oklahoma and who could win the National Championship (-). We finish the show with listener FAQ's (-).

Brandon Walker on Lane Kiffin, CFP Chaos, and Fraudulent A&M

The college football world is currently on fire, and Big Cat and PFT opened the show by trying to make sense of a landscape where the Group of Five finally has some juice. With James Madison landing in the Top 25, PFT is fully embracing the chaos, even if it means logic has to take a backseat to Sun Belt supremacy.

James Madison is a better team than Notre Dame

Does that mean that JMU is better than Notre Dame? I have no choice but to say yes. It does mean that because we would be in, Notre Dame would be out.

This is inherently subjective, but JMU being ranked #25 as a Group of Five team vs Notre Dame is a massive talent gap. The committee would never genuinely rank JMU ahead on merit alone.

While the current 12-team format is causing plenty of headaches for teams like Notre Dame and Miami, Big Cat thinks this is just a stepping stone to an even larger bracket that might actually solve the bickering.

The College Football Playoff will eventually expand to 16 teams

We knew it was gonna be chaotic and weird for the first couple of years of this. I think it eventually will get to 16 and then people will stop bitching as much because you're getting closer and closer to where the natural rankings are.

The playoff has already expanded from 4 to 12. 16 is the logical next step for revenue and to include more at-large teams.

Patriots Dominate and the Giants Spiral

Monday Night Football was a bloodbath that saw the Patriots looking like the dynasty of old against a Giants team that seems to have completely quit on the season. PFT was ready to crown the Patriots after they dismantled the G-Men in all three phases, especially with the defense looking stifling.

The Patriots looked legitimately unbeatable and like a great team against the Giants

I thought the Patriots looked unbeatable last night. Like a legitimately great team. All three phases.

The Patriots finished 11-2 but their 'unbeatable' status is subjective and depends on their upcoming playoff run against better teams like the Bills and Ravens.

Drake Maye continues to look like the real deal, but the guys couldn't help but notice one specific milestone eluding the young signal-caller. PFT has officially started the 300-yard watch, and he’s not letting up until Maye joins the elite fraternity.

Drake Maye is not in the elite 300-yard passing club yet

Drake Maye is not on it. There's an elite club and all the players know about it. The 300 club, the 300 yard club... he hasn't thrown for 300 yards yet... Drake Maye is not on it.

PFT claimed Drake Maye had not yet thrown for 300 yards as of early December 2025. This was factually correct at the time — Maye's first career 300-yard game came in Week 16 (December 21, 2025) when he threw for 380 yards against the Ravens, which was after this episode aired on December 3.

On the other side of the ball, Younghoe Koo provided the most confusing highlight of the night with a field goal attempt that looked like he forgot how to use his legs. While most people assumed it was a mental collapse, PFT has a more technical, golf-inspired explanation for the disaster.

Younghoe Koo's terrible field goal attempt was a check swing, not the yips

It looked like the yips. I thought he had the yips... But when I heard his explanation after the game, I watched it again... it was his holder Gilliam, he caught it. And then the ball started to fall a little bit. And so at the last second, Younghoe pulled up... It was a check swing.

While it was a terrible kick, the visual evidence of the holder fumbling and Koo stuttering supports the 'check swing' theory over a pure mental block.

Hot Seat and Cool Throne

Hot Seat/Cool Throne brought the heat as the guys looked at the crumbling infrastructure of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Big Cat is starting to feel the end of the road for Mike Tomlin, especially after the team signed Adam Thielen in what feels like a parody of their own roster-building strategy.

The Steelers have become a retirement home for players

The Steelers did sign Adam Thielen today, who is a 2018 pro bowler... Mike Tomlin has gotten to the point where you can just perfectly troll him and predict everything he does. And the Steelers are just become a retirement home for players. It's crazy.

Subjective assessment of team management and roster age.

Mike Tomlin and the Steelers are likely to break up after this season

My Hot Seat is Mike Tomlin and the Steelers. Because I actually think that he might, this might be it... they don't change anything. And it's, I mean, TJ Watt said it. I think the bills ran the same play 27 times on Sunday. Yeah. That's insane. It feels like this is finally [the end].

Tomlin signed an extension through 2027 in the real world, but the sentiment of the 'break up' is a recurring narrative every time the Steelers struggle.

LeBron James landed on the Cool Throne for keeping his double-digit scoring streak alive in the most LeBron way possible. He managed to hit the mark in the fourth quarter of a blowout loss before immediately hitting the bench, which led Big Cat to a realization about the King's current priorities.

LeBron James is officially in his stat-padding era

My Cool Throne is LeBron because congratulations to LeBron. He kept his streak alive of scoring 10 games, which is a totally made up streak... Can we just admit that LeBron's in his stat padding time, like it's fine. It's fine.

This is subjective, but LeBron's emphasis on scoring streaks and playing with his son Bronny supports the narrative of focusing on legacy milestones.

Brandon Walker on the Coaching Carousel

Brandon Walker joined the studio to discuss the bombshell news of Lane Kiffin jumping from Ole Miss to LSU. While the move has left Oxford in shambles, Brandon Walker isn't buying the idea that Kiffin has found his forever home in Baton Rouge. He expects the Lane Train to keep rolling right toward a Sunday job in the near future.

Lane Kiffin will leave LSU for an NFL job in four years

He's gonna leave for the Dolphins job or the Bills job. He's gonna leave an NFL job in four years... he's proven he could do it in the SEC... but he's just a guy doing a job.

Kiffin just started at LSU in this transcript's timeline. Whether he stays 4 years is a future event.

When it came to the actual playoff field, Brandon Walker was in rare form, calling out the teams he believes are simply pretenders. He saved his sharpest barbs for the Aggies, who he believes have used a soft schedule to mask their true identity.

Texas A&M is a fraudulent team

Texas a and m has the classic look of a fraudulent team... Their first seven SEC games where they started seven and oh, they played teams ranked nine through 16 in the sec. The second they played somebody in the Top half league, Texas stumped them. This looks like a team that feels like a fraud.

A&M's late-season losses often validate Brandon's 'fraud' labels, but 'fraudulent' is ultimately a subjective sports descriptor.

Big Cat also used the opportunity to double down on his hate for the Longhorns. Despite their high ranking, he can't get past their loss to a struggling Florida squad, arguing that a true playoff contender doesn't drop games to the bottom of the SEC.

Texas should not be in the College Football Playoff because they lost to Florida

I have a take and, and people will probably say this is wrong, but it's my take... Texas is out... That Florida lost. I know they have three very good wins... that's not a playoff team.

Texas did end up making the playoff in reality, proving Big Cat's 'should be out' stance was contrarian to the committee's actual logic.

If you see a guy in Philly with a carton of eggs and a thousand-yard stare, just know that Kevin Patullo is probably checking his doorbell camera.

Group of Five teams like James Madison, Tulane, and North Texas have zero chance of winning the national title

If you said to me right now, does James Madison, Tulane or North Texas have a chance of winning it all? I'd say no. Does Texas or Vanderbilt? I'd say maybe.

While subjective, historical precedent strongly supports the idea that G5 teams cannot win a national title in the modern era.

Ed Orgeron will return to LSU as part of Lane Kiffin's new coaching staff

I think there's a high chance that he [Kiffin] puts Coach O on his staff... Why wouldn't you want Coach O on the LSU staff? You want him back.

Big Cat predicted Ed Orgeron would return to LSU as part of Lane Kiffin's new coaching staff. While Kiffin was hired as LSU head coach, Orgeron confirmed Kiffin did not ask him to join the staff. The coaching staff was filled with former Ole Miss assistants. Coach O was open to it but was not offered a position.

LSU is Lane Kiffin's forever home and he will never leave the program

I don't think Lane Kiffin would ever leave. This is the one destination for him.

This prediction covers the remainder of Kiffin's career and is currently pending.

The 'Blob' weather pattern could mean the end of the world

B-Big Cat, We are Earth could be finished. We could be done... There's a world, the blob never goes away... I do wanna say you're right. I was being dramatic there. Blob will go away, but it's sinking its toes right now.

The Earth is not literally ending due to a seasonal weather pattern, though 'The Blob' is a real meteorological phenomenon.

Alabama, Ole Miss, and Miami are not good enough to win the National Championship

I don't think Alabama is... Ole Miss is not good enough to win at all... Miami not good enough to win at all.

Brandon Walker said Alabama, Ole Miss, and Miami were not good enough to win the National Championship. None of them won it: Alabama was eliminated in the quarterfinals, Ole Miss's coach (Kiffin) left for LSU before the playoff, and Miami made the championship game but lost to Indiana 27-21.

Michigan is a poorly coached team and Sherrone Moore is a mistake

They are a poorly coached football team in for 2025... they just, they, they're going to a gunfight with a, with a knife. They just can't do it. And Sherrone Moore is, they're wasting their time with Sherrone Moore as the head coach.

Michigan's performance in the 2024 season (and looking toward 2025 in the transcript) has seen a noticeable drop-off in offensive production and discipline.

Tom Wilson is unfairly targeted by NHL officials and the league

I would say Tom Wilson... I die on several hills for him every year. I do think that he is targeted by the NHL. I think he's targeted by refs.

This is a matter of fan and analyst perspective regarding officiating and league discipline.
