Clayton Kershaw on World Series, Joakim Noah on Shamanism and Wemby
The vibes are high following a massive Eagles victory on Monday Night Football and some spicy new College Football Playoff rankings. PFT is already in mid-season form with his conspiracy theories regarding the committee's treatment of his beloved James Madison Dukes.
The College Football Playoff committee is intentionally keeping JMU out because they don't want any 'presidents' in the bracket
I think it's a anti-PFT thing. I think maybe the college football playoff committee has gone woke and they don't want any presidents in their bracket. Makes sense. It's sad. I mean, just fast forward 20 years, Trump University probably will be blacklisted too.
Big Cat isn't quite as conspiratorial, but he does see a clear path for the Group of Five spot if things break a certain way for South Florida.
If South Florida wins out, they absolutely deserve to be in the College Football Playoff.
If South Florida runs the table... I also understand that South Florida is deserved to go in. Because they went and they beat Florida, you know, in the swamp. So that, you know, that's a, that's a big, big time win.
As for the top of the bracket, Big Cat is planting his flag with the Buckeyes, even with Indiana looming on the schedule. He thinks the gap between them and the field is wider than the rankings suggest.
Ohio State is significantly better than every other team in college football
I still think Ohio State is that much better than everyone else. And we'll find out though, Indiana and Ohio State feel like they're on a collision course.
Monday Night Football and the Tush Push Debate
Max is feeling himself after the Eagles handled the Packers at Lambo. While the game was a bit of a slog, the takeaway was clear: Philly's defense is back to being a problem for the rest of the league. Big Cat noted that the addition of Jalen Phillips has completely transformed their ceiling.
The Eagles defense is nasty and Jalen Phillips was the missing piece to make them elite again
I think the Eagles defense is nasty... Jalen Phillips was a monster and they feel like they're rounding into that type of form again.
On the other side of the ball, the Packers are looking like a shell of themselves. Between Jordan Love's struggles and a lack of rhythm, Big Cat is sounding the alarm on the offense in Green Bay.
The Packers' offense is completely broken right now.
Something's wrong, something's broken. They're in the Bills category of broken right now... their offense feels broken. It definitely feels like there's something going on that they got to like they gotta figure it out before it's too late.
PFT, of course, spent a significant portion of the segment trying to find ways to nerf the Eagles' signature play. He admitted that while the play itself is legal, the competitive advantage is getting out of hand.
The NFL should ban the tush push because the Eagles are simply too much better at it than everyone else.
I hope they ban it because the Eagles are so much better at that play than anybody else. And I would, I would prefer them to not be able to dominate teams with it. But if you're asking me if the plays should be banned? No, it's, it's, it's not their fault that they're better at it.
Clayton Kershaw: The Retirement Tour Begins
Fresh off a World Series ring, the legend Clayton Kershaw joined the show to talk about hanging them up. He was incredibly candid about his lack of motivation to hit the gym and his legendary connection to Matthew Stafford. Kershaw thinks his high school buddy still has plenty of gas in the tank.
Matthew Stafford will play for five or six more years
The way Matthew's playing right now, he's gonna keep going for another five, six years... Matthew's gonna be going another, I mean, as long as he wants to really.
The conversation shifted to the sheer brilliance of Shohei Ohtani. Even as a teammate, Kershaw struggled to find the words to describe what he witnessed during the Dodgers' run, particularly Shohei's historic 50/50 performance.
Shohei Ohtani's 50/50 game in the 2024 NLCS is the best game ever played in sports history
[Ohtani's game] might be the best game ever played, maybe in any sport... especially when you consider the NLCS, you know, it's like, it's in the playoffs, you know? Yeah. I think he might be right.
Joakim Noah in Studio
One of the program's favorite recurring guests, Joakim Noah, stopped by to promote his new travel show *Nomad*. He’s traveling the world exploring basketball culture, but the conversation quickly veered into his personal journey with shamanism and Ayahuasca.
Ayahuasca allows you to have real conversations with your ancestors in another realm
You go back, you go back and you have real conversations with your people. You know, you go to another realm... The medicine brought me places that definitely put me at peace with things that were, I had turmoil in my system.
Joe also shared his thoughts on the current state of the NBA and the terrifying development of Victor Wembanyama. After seeing him up close at a Bulls game, Noah is convinced the league isn't ready for what’s coming next.
The rest of the NBA is in big trouble because of what Victor Wembanyama is doing.
We're seeing something that we've never seen before. And we better appreciate what this is... Big, big trouble for the rest of the league.
Big Cat, ever the optimist, thinks he has the physical profile to actually give the alien some trouble in the post.
I think I could give Victor Wembanyama problems just by bodying him and getting physical.
I think I could probably give him a problem just bodying him a little bit. A little bit more weight than him. Back him down... If I just threw a couple bows on him, he probably wouldn't wanna come in the paint.
Hot Seat/Cool Throne & FAQs
Hank is officially on the Hot Seat because he's "pre-sick" and apparently trying to pivot to being a left-handed golfer. He’s convinced that his natural swing is actually from the other side of the ball, despite years of evidence to the contrary.
My ceiling as a golfer might be higher as a lefty
I might be more... I can maybe my my ceiling is higher. Potentially left-handed more good at golf. My ceiling is higher. Damn. We'll see.
Meanwhile, Zac is worried about a "catastrophic" winter involving a hot blob in the Pacific and a tilt of the earth's axis that could make Chicago uninhabitable. We wrap things up with PFT doubling down on his dream of becoming a lawyer without actually attending a single class.
I can pass the bar exam without going to law school if I study for four months
I have irrational confidence in myself to be able to pass the bar exam. It doesn't make any sense. I just think that if I, if I tried for like four months... I think I can, I can be a lawyer.
Hopefully PFT passes the bar before the blob gets us all.
