Coach O and DeMarcus Ware on the Bears' Woes and Week 1 Picks
Football is officially back, even if it didn't feel like it for everyone. Big Cat and PFT recorded this at 1:00 AM right after the Bears and Packers kicked off the NFL's 100th season with a game that was essentially a localized disaster for the city of Chicago. While the defense showed up, the offensive performance left Big Cat questioning his entire existence.
The Chicago Bears Offensive Incompetence
There is no other way to put it: the Bears were a mess. Mitchell Trubisky struggled to find any rhythm, but the blame wasn't solely on the quarterback. The play-calling looked completely out of sync for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. Big Cat was particularly incensed by the lack of balance in the game plan.
Matt Nagy's decision to call 45 passes and only 15 runs against the Packers was 'incompetence.'
Matt Nagy was also terrible because I know the offensive line wasn't doing a great job and they couldn't really block but holy shit, man, 45 passes and 15 runs. You can't do that, right, when you have a defense like we have. So it was incompetence.
It wasn't just the lack of running plays; it was the overall lack of execution. Between ten penalties and a graphic showing a first-and-40, the game felt more like a Tuesday night MACtion struggle than a marquee NFL opener.
The Bears' offense was a 'fucking joke' against the Packers
The Bears were a fucking joke tonight. Yeah. They were a joke. How's that make you ten penalties? 407 yards the offense looked like shit. The defense was awesome. Couldn't turn the ball over which would have been nice but like They were joke. You can't have that first and 40. Graphic. That's a fucking joke that is aim action game.
Antonio Brown and the Raiders Circus
Moving away from the field, the guys tackled the ongoing insanity surrounding Antonio Brown. Between the helmet saga, the frozen feet, and now a reported confrontation with Mike Mayock, the Raiders are providing more drama than a reality show. Big Cat isn't surprised by the behavior, but he is surprised that the Raiders' brass expected anything else.
Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden are 100% to blame for the Antonio Brown situation
I have a take on this no one to blame. But Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden are 100% to blame Mike Mayock you brought this headcase in Antonio Brown has proven time and time again that he's a dickhead. He has done nothing to disprove that. ... When he comes and he does exactly what you expected him to do. You cannot be surprised.
With news of a potential suspension looming, PFT took it a step further, predicting that the relationship is already past the point of no return before a single snap has been played.
Antonio Brown will never play a single game for the Raiders
Here's my take: [Antonio Brown] is not going to ever play a game as a Raider. I think they're either going to cut him. They're probably not going to be able to trade him anywhere.
Coach O and the LSU Air Raid
LSU head coach Coach O joined the show to discuss the Tigers' upcoming massive matchup against Texas. He sounds incredibly energized about the new-look offense in Baton Rouge. Gone are the days of three yards and a cloud of dust; Coach O is fully embracing a more modern approach with Joe Burrow under center.
The LSU offense is going to 'explode' this season
We always spread offense man. I'm excited about it with the talent we have the quarterback we have. I'm looking forward to this offense is really exploding the season.
Beyond the football, Coach O shared his legendary daily routine, which involves running in the peak Baton Rouge summer heat to make "the sun his friend." It’s the kind of psychological warfare against nature that only he could pull off.
DeMarcus Ware on Jerry Jones and Hall of Fame Resumes
Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware stopped by to talk about the Ezekiel Elliott contract extension and what it’s actually like to sit across from Jerry Jones in a negotiation. According to Ware, Jerry creates an "aura" in the room—dimming the lights and talking about "emptying the bucket" for the star. Ware also weighed in on which of his former rivals and teammates deserve a gold jacket.
Donovan McNabb should be a Hall of Famer
I think that Donovan McNabb should be a Hall of Famer. I mean going against him every single year. ... He found ways of run the ball found ways to throw to get the ball down the field. I think that he is a Hall of Fame.
He also gave a glowing endorsement of Tony Romo, suggesting that the narrative around the quarterback would be entirely different if just one or two plays had gone the Cowboys' way during his peak.
Tony Romo would be a Hall of Famer if he had won one championship
I feel like Tony Romo was a guy [that] if he had his Peak was gonna hit one Championship. [He'd] been [in the Hall of Fame]. Yeah. I probably agree.
Week 1 Picks and FAQ
To wrap things up, the guys gave their locks for the weekend. Big Cat is surprisingly high on the Lions traveling to Arizona to face Kyler Murray, believing the veteran defense will be too much for the rookie.
The Lions' defense will 'fuck up' the Cardinals in Week 1
I think the Detroit Lions are Going to be a little bit better than people expect. I think their defense is going to be very good and I think their defense will fuck up the Cardinals week one. Kyler Murray not-ready-for-prime-time.
PFT, meanwhile, is looking at the Sunshine State for his underdog of the week, betting on a little early-season magic in Miami.
The Dolphins +6.5 is a 'dog' that will cover against the Ravens because of 'Fitzmagic'
My dog is the Dolphins plus 6.5 against the Ravens at home. My seven-win Dolphins. Ryan Fitzmagic. It's early in the season. ... All I'm going off of is last year Ryan Fitzpatrick played well when he first got in.
The episode finished with a philosophical FAQ session where PFT used Zeno's Paradox to explain why nobody ever actually achieves a first down, and Big Cat shared a controversial take on the Denver Broncos' quarterback situation.
Joe Flacco is a downgrade at quarterback from Trevor Siemian for the Broncos.
The Broncos ... they got Joe Flacco. That's a downgrade from Trevor Siemian.
Hopefully, the rest of the Week 1 slate provides more points than the opener, or it's going to be a very long season for Big Cat's mental health.
