Greg Olsen on Tight End University, Winning Emmys, and Vanny Woodhead's Return
Hank is walking around the studio with the confidence of a man who hasn't felt a single second of sports anxiety in weeks. The Celtics took a 2-0 lead over the Mavericks, and while Jayson Tatum’s shooting was rough, the rest of the roster is simply overwhelming Dallas. Hank isn't even trying to be humble anymore, admitting that the gap between the two teams is a canyon.
The Celtics are a way better team than the Mavericks
The Celtics are up two. Oh, congratulations Hank. Thank you. Your team is so much better than the Mavs. Yeah, they are. They are a way better team. It's great, great team win. It's not even really close.
Max, on the other hand, is in a state of total collapse. Between the Phillies losing in London and the Celtics being on the verge of a title, he’s ready to pack it in for the summer. He’s already declared the Finals over, mostly because he’s convinced Tatum is playing with a level of hesitation that should be impossible for a superstar.
Jayson Tatum was 'terrified' to shoot in Game 2
Jayson Tatum just needs to play horrible. That's all I care about. The biggest He sucks. You guys were sucking his dick. He sucked tonight. I mean, he didn't suck. He's terrified. He was terrified to shoot the ball tonight. He's shooting his spin back. It is weird. He had open looks at the rim and then he would just pass out every time.
While Jayson Tatum handles the double teams, Kyrie Irving has been practically invisible in Boston. PFT is starting to wonder if the "New Kyrie" who is mature and well-adjusted is actually a worse basketball player than the guy who was stepping on logos and yelling at fans. Big Cat isn't holding out much hope for a Mavs comeback unless things change drastically in Game 3.
The Mavericks will be swept if they lose Game 3 to the Celtics
If the [Mavericks] don't win game three, it's [a] sweep. I'd agree. I don't, I mean, if they don't win game three, it's [a] sweep.
The Caitlin Clark Snub and Olympic Politics
The sports world spent the weekend losing its collective mind over Caitlin Clark being left off the Team USA roster. PFT pointed out the absurdity of the situation, suggesting that the decision-makers were likely just terrified of the Jalen Brown-level take cycle that follows Clark everywhere she goes.
Caitlin Clark was left off the Olympic team because USA Basketball didn't want to deal with the media frenzy
I think there's a a, a pretty big percentage of the reason why she's [Caitlin Clark] not on the team is just because they didn't wanna deal with all the bullshit of people coming out with takes about Caitlin Clark every single day, which is the dumbest reason ever.
Big Cat brought up a different angle, noting that while it's a huge missed opportunity for the sport's growth, Clark herself might actually enjoy the chance to sleep for more than four hours after going straight from the NCAA tournament to the WNBA season.
Greg Olsen: The People's Champ
Our good friend Greg Olsen joined the show to discuss winning another Emmy and his upcoming Tight End University. Greg remains the ultimate professional, even when the guys try to bait him into being mad about the Tom Brady situation at FOX. He broke down the nuances of the position, including why tall white guys need to stop wearing black cleats immediately.
White cleats and socks make a player look faster than they actually are
White cleats, light color cleats always make you look faster than you are. For a lot of these six five tight ends, that is good. Tall white guys cannot wear black cleats in my opinion... Black shoes with high white socks make you look slow.
Greg also gave his take on the future of the tight end position, specifically how Sam LaPorta and Dalton Kincaid are part of a new golden era. When it comes to the all-time rankings, Greg thinks Travis Kelce is within striking distance of the GOAT crown if he can just keep this pace up for another few seasons.
Travis Kelce will be the greatest tight end of all time if he produces for two more years
Kelsey's [Travis Kelce] production and longevity is now getting into that like Tony Gonzalez era... I think Kelsey becomes the first one who enters into that. You know, maybe even more than like, I mean Gronk was on that trajectory, maybe just didn't play long enough... If he has that thousand yard ish production another year or two... I think he becomes the first one who enters into that [GOAT status].
Beyond just the stats, Greg and the guys talked about the sheer difficulty of the transition from the field to the booth. Greg argued that football analysts actually have a much steeper learning curve than those in other sports, mostly because the NFL is essentially a series of individual stories that need to be told every 40 seconds.
An NFL broadcaster could call an NBA game more easily than vice versa
I think an NFL broadcaster could broadcast an NBA game with more understanding and clarity than vice versa. Because it's too—offenses are too complicated. Defense is too complicated. The NFL, you know, 'cause you got, 'cause remember like in football, every play is an individual story... I just think there's more need and space to fill in more like football lingo and talk that than there is maybe in a ever, you know, a constant flowing basketball game that you could kind of fake it a little bit more.
Who's Back and Vanny Woodhead
Who’s Back featured the return of Scottie Scheffler to the winner's circle, James Harden seeing his life flash before his eyes at a wedding, and the start of the College World Series. Hank also made a bold prediction for the U.S. Open involving Bryson DeChambeau and a specific tribute to a legend.
Bryson DeChambeau will win the U.S. Open as an homage to Payne Stewart
I think this is it for Bryson [DeChambeau]. If Bryson comes and wears, because remember he used to wear the scaly cap. Payne Stewart. I could see it happening. As a homage to Payne Stewart. I'll call my shot right now.
To wrap things up, the guys discussed the triumphant return of Vanny Woodhead. The van is back in their possession, but it's currently more of a rodent habitat than a functioning vehicle. Hank is optimistic about a summer return, but Big Cat is being much more realistic about the amount of wiring and engine work required to get that death trap back on the highway.
Vanny Woodhead's repair is a Spring 2025 project
I think you think that Vanny needs like new tires? No, you're thinking like you want Xzibit to walk in. We also need a new engine. Vanny needs new wiring. Vanny needs literally everything. It doesn't work. No, this is is Spring 25 project. One year from now. Vanny Woodhead is gonna be rocking.
Hank has already pledged five thousand dollars of his potential dunk money to the cause, provided he gets recouped once the marketing deals start rolling in.
