Johnny Manziel, Lane Johnson, and Danny Woodhead on NFL Comebacks and Johnsons
It is officially Football in July. While most of the country is recovering from a July 4th hangover and trying to remember where they left their shoes, Big Cat and PFT Commenter are delivering a massive double episode loaded with never-before-heard Mount Rushmore segments and the absolute best football guy interviews from the vault.
Starting things off with the most undrafted player to ever walk the earth, Danny Woodhead joined the show to draft the Mount Rushmore of undrafted NFL players. Danny is enjoying retirement on the golf course, though he’s still pretty salty about shooting an 86. Despite PFT’s best efforts to recruit him for a late-season Patriots run, Danny is keeping the cleats in the closet.
There is a 0% chance I will ever return to the NFL
I'd say if it was from zero to 100, 100 being yes, I thought about it, zero being I didn't think about it, I'd say anywhere into the negative 100,000.
While he won't be taking hits on the field, Danny is fully embracing the fan life. He admitted he’s ready to dive into the world of spreadsheets and questionable weekly decisions.
There is a 100% chance I am doing some sort of fantasy football or pick-em game this year
there's 100% chance I'm doing some sort of fantasy or pick-em or some fun game. I've got to do something, right?
The Bayou and The Best of Coach O
The guys revisited their legendary interview with Coach Ed Orgeron. If you don't love Coach O, you simply don't have a soul. Between stories about eating an entire loaf of toast as a kid and keeping a worm in his mouth for a pre-game motivational speech, Coach O proved why he is the ultimate football guy. He even extended an invitation for Big Cat and PFT to hit the drum in Death Valley. PFT made a solemn vow to the listeners regarding a potential trip to Baton Rouge.
We will travel to Baton Rouge for the LSU-Alabama game if a video of a bar singing 'Down in the Bayou' surfaces
If at some point during the fall... somebody sends us a video in Tigerland or at a bar in Baton Rouge of the whole bar singing Coach O down in the bayou to drink paint, we will come down there for that Saturday night game. I promise you.
Coach O isn't just there for the vibes and the gumbo, though. He has one singular focus for the Tigers, and it’s something every fan in Louisiana wants to hear.
I will win a National Championship for the state of Louisiana
I want a national championship for the state of Louisiana, for these players. They yearn for it. They work for it. And I want to win a national championship there.
Mount Rushmore of Johnsons and Comebacks
Lane Johnson stopped by the studio to participate in a very literal Mount Rushmore of Johnsons. We’re talking Magic, Randy, and even Dakota. Lane has become a true friend of the program, to the point where he’s already made a major commitment regarding the end of his career.
I will announce my NFL retirement on Pardon My Take
Lane Johnson will announce his retirement at some point on Pardon My Take. Okay. We want to shake hands on this? Yeah. Okay, let's shake hands. We will do this.
Then, Johnny Manziel joined for a Mount Rushmore of comebacks. Naturally, PFT went to the highest possible authority for his first pick, even if Big Cat and Johnny thought it was a bit of a reach.
Jesus is the greatest comeback ever because he got crossed up and came back three days later
My first one is going to be Jesus... Jesus got crossed up, came back three days later. Pretty impressive. Saved all of humanity. So a little disrespectful on your guys' account, not picking Jesus, number one.
Big Cat, ever the optimist for his childhood heroes, used his pick to keep the dream alive for a certain Lions legend who definitely hasn't lost his burst.
Barry Sanders is still capable of an NFL comeback
My last one is more of a hypothetical comeback because it hasn't happened yet... Barry Sanders, always going to come back. A lot of rumors ever since he retired. I still think he could go out there and do it. I think he could.
Super Bowl Memories and Rihanna Comparisons
Julian Edelman’s "Best Of" segment reminded us why the Patriots dynasty was so relentless. In a moment of rare vulnerability, Big Cat tried to level with Jules on the physical and mental toll of their respective professions.
Blogging is just as hard of a sport as playing in the NFL
I think blogging is just as hard of a sport as football. My brain is mush. ... There's going to be a class action lawsuit of all the bloggers in 30 years because we've all just been playing with a concussion for the last decade.
Edelman also gave us a peak behind the curtain of the New England mindset. While the world remembers his circus catch against the Falcons as one of the greatest plays in NFL history, Jules is haunted by a different moment from that game.
The drop I had in the Super Bowl haunts me more than the catch that everyone talks about
I don't think about that catch when I think about [Super Bowl 51]. I think about right after halftime... I drop that ball and I was the guy over here, you know the rah-rah guy... I think about that third down how much harder it made it for us to go because we had a little momentum there. So, like, that's what I think about, bro. I don't even think about that catch. I think about that drop.
To wrap up the football feast, Von Miller sat down to discuss his "Rihanna-level" obsession with a certain quarterback and how much gas he has left in the tank. Despite being one of the veterans the young guys now look up to, Von isn't planning on checking out anytime soon.
It’s a long way until September, but this episode is the perfect bridge to get us through the summer heat.
Go Tigers, and keep your piss clean.
