Nick Colletti, Randy Moss, and Saban vs. Jimbo Nuclear War
The NBA Playoffs have officially entered the 'blowout era,' and the guys are trying to make sense of it. After the Celtics absolutely dismantled the Heat in Game 2, Big Cat is convinced we're still in for a long haul, even if the individual games aren't exactly barnburners. Between Marcus Smart returning and the Heat forgetting how to shoot, the series is a total toss-up.
The Celtics vs Heat series will go at least six or seven games
I expected the [Heat] to come out and play really well tonight just because they were a very good team and it doesn't feel like it... I think this will go back and forth. I think we're have a six or seven game series. I think the heat will win one game in Boston.
PFT has his own theories on how to improve the product, specifically regarding the international superstars like Luka Doncic. After seeing rumors of Luka grabbing a beer before a game, PFT thinks we should lean into the culture.
European NBA players should be allowed to drink beer during games instead of Gatorade
My problem is not with the beer. I think if you're from Eastern Europe, you should be able to drink a beer, like instead of Gatorade during the game. And that would be fine.
Saban vs. Jimbo: The Civil War
College football changed forever this week when Nick Saban decided to name names, specifically accusing Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M of buying their entire recruiting class. It’s the kind of petty drama usually reserved for message boards, but seeing the GOAT go nuclear on a former assistant has the guys mesmerized. Big Cat thinks Saban’s outburst is actually a sign of respect for the threat A&M poses.
Texas A&M and Jimbo Fisher are a legitimate threat to Nick Saban's dominance at Alabama
In terms of teams that can compete with Alabama, [Texas A&M] are a significant threat to Nick Saban going forward. But he went on to say the narcissist in him doesn't allow those things to happen.
Jimbo didn't take it lying down, calling an emergency press conference to essentially call Saban a narcissist and tell everyone to go dig into his past. PFT thinks the SEC has officially reached its peak form, comparing the rivalry to the most iconic era of hip-hop.
The SEC's internal conflicts have turned into a 90s-style East Coast vs. West Coast rap beef
Right now this has turned into essentially if the SEC had an east coast and a west coast rap beef from back in the nineties. That's what we're into right now. Like this is pretty close to that.
As the NIL landscape continues to look like the Wild West, Big Cat thinks the school that finally treats the program like a professional front office is going to pull away from the pack. He also suspects the 'dumb money' currently being thrown at 18-year-olds might eventually dry up once the boosters realize the ROI isn't exactly a sure thing.
Rich boosters will eventually stop paying millions for recruits because an 18-year-old is a terrible investment
I've always thought that when it comes to alumni paying for players, an investment on an 18 year old is not a great investment. And eventually rich people are going to be like, 'I don't want to pay millions of dollars every single year.' It's going to level out.
Preakness Picks with Randy Moss
The Kentucky Derby was a disaster for anyone following the 'experts,' mostly because Rich Strike was such a long shot that even Randy Moss didn't bother talking to his trainer before the race. Looking ahead to the Preakness, Randy is keeping an eye on the rest advantage for certain horses, even with Epicenter coming in as a heavy favorite.
Early Voting has a rest advantage that could challenge Epicenter in the Preakness
I agree with you. I think that [Epicenter] stands out in the field on paper, but Early Voting would have an edge he'll he'll probably set the pace. Epicenter should be right behind him. And Early Voting does have the edge of rest having not run since the Wood Memorial. So that will help his chances.
While Epicenter is the name on everyone's lips, Randy notes that this specific leg of the Triple Crown has a history of being much more hospitable to fillies than the Derby ever is.
The Preakness is historically a better race for fillies than the other Triple Crown races
I do think that the Preakness is usually a better race for fillies. We haven't had a Kentucky Derby, a Philly that's won the Kentucky Derby since winning colors in 1988... But we saw Rachel Alexandra, for example, beat the boys in the Preakness. I think that was 2009, very impressively.
Nick Colletti: From Vine to the Stage
Internet legend Nick Colletti stopped by the studio to talk about his journey from being the 'Suh Dude' guy to his current stand-up tour. He and the guys go deep on the early days of Vine and how that specific format changed the way people think about comedy.
The six-second limit on Vine forced creativity in a way longer formats don't
I miss Vine, man... just that parameter, like kind of forces you to do stuff that you normally wouldn't try because you're restricted. You producers produce content that had to have a beginning, a middle and an end and be engaging and entertaining within a six second time period was actually good for creativity.
Nick also broke down why he eventually traded the LA lifestyle for a return to Pittsburgh. According to him, there’s a level of honesty on the East Coast that you just don't find when you're dealing with Hollywood types.
East Coast people have a better bullshit detector than people in Los Angeles
I think I have a pretty good read on, I mean, being from the East Coast, like you can kind of call bullshit, I think better than most people can. So like, my whole thing is like out here, like you bump into someone and you're like, 'Hey, fuck you.' Then it's over. Like LA you bump into someone and then they fucking email you a list of reasons why they need to understand why.
Fyre Fest and a Special Guest
Fyre Fest of the week featured a surprise 'appearance' by Ryen Russillo, who joined the show to pour his heart out about his long-term relationship with Chris Paul. After the Suns' historic collapse, Ryen is questioning if the love he puts in is ever going to be reciprocated.
Chris Paul might not care as much about winning as his die-hard fans do
I've been seeing this guy [Chris Paul] and it's, I mean, this is long-term and you know, like in every relationship there's always somebody, the relationship seems to matter a lot more to... It's getting to the point where like, I don't want to say, like, I'm not, I'm not trying to be a victim in this, but like, you can care about somebody for so long. And then you wonder, I don't think this person could care as much as I do.
To wrap things up, Big Cat shared the tragedy of his shattered phone. After dropping it on the pavement without a case, he went through an eight-hour digital blackout that made him reconsider his life choices—but not enough to actually buy a case.
The 'no phone case' lifestyle is a gamble that makes every day more thrilling
A lot of people would be like, 'oh, you don't have a case because you have money.' I wrote that blog in like 2013 when I had just, I was smashing phones left and right. And it costs me a lot of money. I so I've been no case for a very long time. It is not a money thing. It's just a thrill thing. It's a gamble. Every day when you wake up knowing this could be the last day of your phone.
If you see Hank in the office, keep your head on a swivel and your denim tight.
