Rob Lowe, OBJ to the Rams, and NFL Week 10 Preview
Because the guys are taking a rare Thursday night off, this episode features some pre-recorded time travel where they predict the Ravens and Dolphins result. PFT Commenter went full contrarian to start the show, fading the heavy favorite in Baltimore in hopes of a viral moment if the Dolphins managed to pull off the impossible.
The Dolphins will beat the Ravens outright on Thursday Night Football
I'm telling you right now, the Miami Dolphins are ready to play some football tonight. The Baltimore Ravens are in big trouble. Tua [Tagovailoa] is coming back... They're going to win outright tonight.
Big Cat isn't ready to give up on the Ravens though, mostly because Lamar Jackson has finally killed the narrative that he can’t come back when trailing by double digits.
Lamar Jackson is taking the step to elite quarterbacking
[Lamar Jackson] was the first part of his career, the first three seasons of his career, 0-6, went down double digits in the second half. What is he, 4-0 this year? Coming back from down double digits, he can do it all. He is taking the step to, dare I say it, elite quarterbacking.
The OBJ Source Off
In the middle of the show, a massive 'source off' erupted between Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport regarding Odell Beckham Jr.’s destination. After a few minutes of chaos and deleted press releases, it became official: OBJ is heading to Hollywood. Big Cat is skeptical of the fit, noting that the Rams are starting to look like a collection of Pro Bowlers rather than a cohesive unit.
The Rams are dangerously close to super-team status, which never works out
But now the Rams are dangerous. Well, they probably were already there, but they're dangerously close to the super team tag. And that never works out.
Beyond the OBJ news, Cam Newton made his triumphant return to the Carolina Panthers. While the reunion is great for the vibes and the bank account, PFT Commenter had a more creative suggestion for how the former MVP should be utilized in the modern NFL.
Cam Newton should move to tight end
I would like to see Cam [Newton] move to tight end. I still think that Cam would be an awesome tight end right now. He's big enough. He's strong enough still. He's fast enough to get the job done as a tight end.
NFL Week 10 Picks and Preview
Moving into the weekend slate, the guys are looking for separation. Hank is officially in 'Soupy Mode' with his Patriots, believing that a win over the Browns could be the signal that a Super Bowl run is actually on the table.
The Patriots will win the Super Bowl if they beat the Browns convincingly
As I've said the whole season, last week was going to decide how I feel about the rest of the season. They won. I'm now in 'soupy' mode. So if they're going to go to the 'soupy', they've got to win this game [against the Browns] convincingly.
For the rest of the board, PFT Commenter is leaning on a specific betting trend that favors teams coming off a bad week against teams that just covered the spread. This logic led him straight to the Cowboys, despite their embarrassing performance against Denver.
The smart bet this season is on teams that failed to cover the previous week when playing against teams that did cover
Betting this year, it's smart to bet on teams that didn't cover the previous week when they're playing against teams that did cover the previous week. In 2021, those teams are 39-14-1... I like the Cowboys, minus 9.5.
Big Cat is also looking for a bounce-back from Dallas, specifically because the Falcons lack the personnel to exploit the defensive blueprint the Broncos provided last week.
The Falcons are a bad matchup for the Cowboys because they cannot exploit the Cowboys' run defense
What the Cowboys' weaknesses are, they were exposed last week against the Broncos because the Broncos were able to run all over them. Falcons can't really run the ball. And they also don't really have a pass rush. So I think Dak [Prescott] will have a ton of time.
Rob Lowe on the 80s and Magic’s Tweets
Friend of the program Rob Lowe joined the show to discuss his podcast 'Literally' and his obsession with the 80s. He gave a legendary breakdown of why 1985 was the peak year for fame, citing a lack of internet and a general consensus that cocaine was actually good for you. He also provided a massive update on the investigation into Magic Johnson's incredibly literal Twitter feed.
Magic Johnson doesn't physically write his own tweets
I found out that Magic Johnson does not physically do any of the tweets, which may explain some of it. It's articulated clearly across the room or while he's doing 17 other things as a titan of industry. And then there is a woman whose job is to figure out what he's talking about and make it a tweet.
Rob Lowe also admitted that while he stays in great shape, he's curious about the 'Marvel Doctor' that seems to turn every actor into a shredded superhero overnight.
Hollywood actors in Marvel movies use a 'Marvel doctor' for HGH
I want to be in [a Marvel movie] just so I can meet their 'doctor feel good'. I want an excuse to have Elvis' bag man come in and hook me up. Because my man, Kumail Nanjiani... I see him in Eternals. And I'm like, 'whatever's going on, I want some of that.'
Fyre Fest of the Week
To wrap things up, the guys discussed their Fyre Fests including Big Cat’s first parent-teacher conference and Billy Football being thanked for his service on the subway by confused AWLs. PFT Commenter also turned his sights toward college basketball, claiming that the pressure is officially on for Coach K in his final season.
Coach K is currently coaching for his job and legacy
I think that their [Duke's] players are so good that Coach K would be on the hot seat if he didn't win a title with these players. He is coaching for his job. We need to update that as the year goes on because if Coach K does not win a title with this extremely talented team, this would go down as the worst job coaching that he ever did in his entire life.
Hopefully Billy remembers to bring his backpack and laptop home for the weekend.
