The success of the Golden Knights makes the rest of the NHL look bad for giving up those players

It's kind of going to make the rest of the league look really bad because all the other teams gave up all these guys, and they're all like the quote-unquote NHL rejects.

Vegas went to the Stanley Cup Finals in their first year, which historically supported the idea that they found massive value in other teams' castoffs.

LeBron James' tears after winning the Cleveland championship were fake

I'm not a huge LeBron fan. I feel like he's very calculated. I felt like when he cried after he won it for Cleveland, he felt like he had to cry because MJ cried when he came back and did his thing and it made it emotional. Fake tears.

Inherently subjective; one cannot prove or disprove the sincerity of another's tears.

The Blackhawks core will be fine after a full summer to recharge

That core group of players has played a lot of hockey over the last eight or nine years... they're not getting that summer, the proper summer training... I think they're going to be okay.

The Blackhawks missed the playoffs in 2018 and 2019, proving that the 'recharge' wasn't enough to bring the core back to Cup contention.

The Nashville Predators or Pittsburgh Penguins will win the 2018 Stanley Cup

If I had to go gun to your head... safe bet, I'd probably pick Nashville. East is going to be tough. Let's go, I'll say Pittsburgh again.

The Washington Capitals won the 2018 Stanley Cup.

The NBA is so entertaining off the court that it makes up for the lack of production on the court

I feel like NBA is so entertaining off the court that it makes up for the production on the court.

This is a subjective comparison of entertainment value.

Sidney Crosby and the Penguins have the Capitals' number

I thought if the Caps could overcome this, they would do okay. But, man, Sidney Crosby and the Pens have their number, man.

The Penguins did indeed beat the Capitals in 7 games in the 2017 playoffs.

The Nashville Predators are my pick to come out of the Western Conference

I mean, I like St. Louis, too, but I think Nashville just looks too good right now. That's who I would pick.

The Predators went on a tear and reached the Stanley Cup Finals, representing the Western Conference.

The NBA playoffs are predictable and the first round is a joke

I mean, the only thing I don't like about basketball is just like it's pretty predictable who's going to the conference final. It's never really a surprise. So it's just the first round's a joke. Does anyone even pay attention until the conference finals?

In 2017, the 1 and 2 seeds in both conferences reached the Conference Finals. It was highly predictable.

LeBron James feels scripted and forced compared to the cool cockiness of Michael Jordan

I respect [LeBron] as an athlete... I just feel like he's a little scripted. Everything he does is calculated where I feel like people compare him to Jordan where I'm like, Jordan was so much cooler. He just carried that cool cockiness where I feel like, it's forced by LeBron.

This is a subjective opinion on athlete personality.

The Canadian dollar is the only thing that can stop the Chicago Blackhawks

The only thing that can stop the Blackhawks is your stupid fucking Canadian dollar... because what they do is they keep escrow based on the Canadian dollar pretty much. So they're going to get none of the 20% they were paying.

The NHL salary cap is tied to league revenue, and the value of the Canadian dollar significantly affects revenue, forcing cap-strapped teams to make moves.

NHL superstars like Sidney Crosby get better treatment from refs and can bully linesmen into letting them cheat on face-offs

Typically superstars do get a better treatment just because they can bully linesmen a lot more than say no namers... Whereas if Joe Thornton's like, 'Hey, drop the fucking puck when I want it,' he'll be like... 'Hey Michael [Jordan], I didn't see it, but I'm going to call it now.' It's very similar to that.

A common observation in professional sports, though impossible to prove definitively via data.

I would beat Conor McGregor in a fight if we were both wearing hockey skates

If it was you and Conor McGregor fighting... but you're both wearing hockey skates, who wins? Well man, he's got pretty good balance. I would put my money on myself just because I'm a lot bigger than him.

Hypothetical scenario that cannot be verified.

The 'glowing puck' ruined the NHL and likely caused the 2004-05 lockout

The glowing puck, did they get rid of that because it was easier to play defense? I think they took the non-hockey followers word too seriously and kind of ruined the game. I really think that's probably why the lockout happened.

Hot TakeHockeyFireSarcastic
The lockout was about the salary cap and labor issues, not the FoxTrax puck which ended years earlier.

The Blackhawks' championship window is still open because their management is elite at filling core pieces

No, their GMs and staff are just so good. And they're like one team that has truly, they've picked out their main core. They know what it is. And they just do a great job of filling in the pieces and finding ways.

The Blackhawks' window arguably closed shortly after this; they wouldn't win another playoff series after 2015 (excluding the 2020 qualifying round).

It is easier for the US to win an Olympic gold medal than for a Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup

I would probably say it's easier to win an Olympic gold medal in hockey than it would be to win a Stanley Cup just based on how hard it is... if you have a good two weeks at the Olympics and all your lines are clicking, you get a gold. So I would say U.S. winning gold.

At the time of writing, a Canadian team still hasn't won a Cup (since 1993), and the US hasn't won Gold (since 1980). Both remain difficult.
