Oregon is a bad matchup for North Carolina due to a lack of size

I do think North Carolina is going to win. I think they're the better team. And they're a bad matchup for Oregon... [Oregon] has athleticism. They do not have—they have a little length. A lot of athleticism. No size.

UNC out-rebounded Oregon 43-37, including two critical offensive rebounds on missed free throws to seal the win.

North Carolina was the favorite to win the NCAA Tournament from the start of the year

I thought they were the favorite at the beginning, honestly. I thought for the whole year, since I saw them at Maui in November, that Carolina was the best team.

UNC went on to win the 2017 championship, validating Bilas's season-long assessment.

If North Carolina plays well, they will win the National Championship

I just think Carolina's got too many weapons. If Carolina plays well, they win. For them to lose, they're going to have to play less than well, less than their best.

North Carolina did indeed win the 2017 National Championship.

Gonzaga will beat South Carolina in the Final Four because of their scoring depth

I favor Gonzaga because they've got so many more scorers and shooters. You know, South Carolina's not been a great offensive team all year... otherwise, I like Gonzaga to win the game.

Gonzaga defeated South Carolina 77-73 in the Final Four.

Coach K will retire in four or five years

My guess is like four years or so, four or five, but you never know... Four to five years. I don't know, but that's my guess.

Exactly correct. Jay Bilas made this prediction in March 2017, and Coach K retired following the 2021-22 season (5 years later).

Oregon is a 'Team of Destiny' because of the Chris Boucher injury

Don't sleep on Oregon because remember, Oregon takes on Michigan's Team of Destiny and Oregon had the big injury to [Chris] Boucher right before this tournament started... when you lose someone, that's a big Team of Destiny situation.

Oregon did make a deep run to the Final Four, validating the 'destiny' narrative to some extent, though they didn't win the title.

North Carolina is the best team left in the NCAA tournament

I would say if North Carolina plays a perfect game, they're the best team left in the NCAA tournament.

North Carolina won the 2017 NCAA Championship, proving they were indeed the best team.

South Carolina will upset Baylor in the Sweet 16

I think South Carolina is real. I think they're not a fluke. I think they're on a mission... I think that I would call for an upset here. I think South Carolina is the bet here.

The ACC is soft

The ACC is dead... The ACC is soft. Sucks, and they're soft.

The ACC famously struggled in the 2017 tournament, with only one team (UNC) reaching the Sweet 16 despite having 9 bids.

Vanderbilt's late-game foul against Northwestern was the dumbest move since Chris Webber's timeout

Northwestern advances on the dumbest foul since Chris Webber. Yeah, that's pretty bad. Dumbest move since Chris Webber called the timeout in the national championship game. Boneheaded, just complete brain fart. What happened, I'm sure you all saw, but Vanderbilt was up one and Matthew Fisher Davis decided to foul with 10 seconds left. 45 feet past half court from Northwestern's basket and they end up losing by one. Unbelievable move.

While subjective, the foul is widely considered one of the biggest 'brain farts' in NCAA tournament history, comparable in impact if not profile to Webber's timeout.

Brad Stevens is definitely not going to the Indiana job

Maybe going back to Indiana. Dream job? I'm so excited for it because he's not going to go to Indiana. Anyone with a brain knows that. But it's going to get written. It's going to get some buzz.

Brad Stevens never returned to Indiana; he stayed with the Celtics until moving to their front office in 2021.

Duke isn't a good team, they just have good players

Duke is back to being back. But we're conveniently ignoring that Duke was down 15 in all these ACC tournament games... Duke is not a good team. They have good players, but they're not actually a good team. And SMU is a good team. So it wouldn't surprise me to see SMU win.

Duke lost in the second round, a major disappointment for a team with their talent, supporting the idea they weren't a cohesive 'good team'.

Wisconsin got screwed by the NCAA Tournament selection committee with an 8-seed

I am biased, but Wisconsin got fucked... they're an eight seed which I'm fine with because they haven't played well but Minnesota is a five seed and Wisconsin beat Minnesota two times this year.

Wisconsin was indeed an 8-seed despite sweeping Minnesota, who received a 5-seed. Wisconsin advanced further in the tournament (Sweet 16) than Minnesota (First Round).

Short, tighter shorts are making a major comeback in college basketball

The bagginess has gotten way too far. It's getting in the way of the dribbles. These guys like to go between their legs a lot, you know, with these new players out there. So they're bringing back short, tighter shorts. A couple guys in Indiana are doing it. I've seen it across the Big East, too, I think. So we're going to see a major swing here. Get out in front of this. If you're a college basketball player, tighten those things up.

The trend toward shorter, tighter shorts in basketball (and sports in general) moved away from the baggy 'Fab Five' era significantly in the late 2010s.

Tom Crean will be hired by another team specifically because he has a 'contentable' face

Tom Crean, he will get fired by Indiana sooner rather than later. But someone will hire him simply because of his face. He's got a brand. Crean has a contentable face. He has an exceptionally stupid-looking face. And that in itself, that's a brand that people will be like, oh, wow, where is Tom Crean coaching? He can go coach the Missouri Valley, and people will now be watching Missouri Valley games because of his name and his face.

PredictionCBBMediumSarcastic
Crean was fired by Indiana in March 2017 and hired by Georgia in 2018. While his 'face' wasn't the official reason, the PMT crew's obsession with his expressions became a staple of his tenure at Georgia.

Kansas is a complete team that has everything

I really like this Kansas team. And maybe it was because Duke seemed like a classic Duke team where they were a little soft down low. But I thought this Kansas team has everything.

Kansas was a 1-seed in the 2017 tournament but lost in the Elite Eight. They were a very strong team that year.

You watch college basketball to see Duke players cry after tournament losses

If you are not a Duke fan, you watch college basketball for the moment that Luke Kennard and Grayson Allen cry during the tournament after they get stunned by a 10-seed. That's why you watch.

Duke did indeed get upset in the 2017 tournament, losing in the second round to 7-seed South Carolina, which featured plenty of crying/upset Duke players.

Roy Williams is legitimately smarter about basketball than any sports reporter

As crazy as it is for Roy to be this surly to everyone, especially after a win, he's not wrong. He does know way more about basketball than we do. So when you second guess him on that stuff... in terms of X's and O's, I don't know... he's smarter.

While subjective, it is a near-universal consensus that Roy Williams is an expert compared to general reporters.

Buddy Hield's game reminds me of Michael Redd

Well, his game reminds me of Michael Redd, the Ohio State player... He was a big-time scorer, about 6'4", 6'5", unorthodox, could shoot it from anywhere. He kind of reminds me of Michael Redd. I think he's going to be a great pro.

Buddy Hield became a high-volume elite 3-point shooter, similar to Michael Redd's peak as a scorer. Hield has had a long, productive NBA career.

Villanova is a totally different team than they were earlier in the season when Oklahoma beat them

Villanova's a totally different team than what they faced early in the year. They were still trying to figure themselves out. Oklahoma had a little bit more of a veteran team. They played together. So, you know, that was an advantage for the Sooners. But, you know, if OU goes in there with the mindset like, hey, you know, we already beat this team by 25 and you start overlooking them... Your butt might be going home on Saturday.

Villanova beat Oklahoma 95-51 in the Final Four, proving King's assessment of them being a 'different team' correct.

Virginia will lose because they lack players who can make late-game shots

I think Virginia is like almost identical to some of the Wisconsin teams... where they don't have guys who can just make shots late in the game when you need... They have the one guy and but everyone else... you need to make shots at the end of the games.

Virginia lost in the Elite Eight in 2016 to Syracuse after blowing a late lead, supporting the 'late game execution' concern.
