We're going to lose... an era because when Jim Boeheim goes out to pasture, Rick Pitino, who knows where he's going to go next, Cal... the era of these college coaches that are bigger than life, it feels like they're dying. The guys we have right now are not old school legends... they're not like these Titans that feel like hovering over it.

This is subjective, but many analysts agree that NIL and the transfer portal have shifted focus away from the 'czar' style coaches of the past.

Tom Izzo is overrated

I picked a really bad time to unearth the Tom Izzo is overrated thing.

Izzo is a Hall of Fame coach with a national title and numerous Final Four appearances; 'overrated' is a subjective and highly debated label in the PMT universe.

Drew Timmy is soft because his shoulders are too small

I think [Drew Timmy's] shoulders are too small. They sink down a little bit. They're too small. He doesn't have—you can't play in the low post without man shoulders. He's got like Reggie Miller shoulders. They're two slender.

I'm not a buyer in Auburn; they have fatal flaws at the end of games

I'm not a buyer in Auburn. I think Auburn's got some fatal flaws. I don't trust them at the end of the day, if you're going to your fourth option in an end of the game scenario like that, that means that you don't have any true scoring threats that can like you can't run an ISO.

Auburn, a 2-seed, was upset by 10-seed Miami in the second round, validating Big Cat's skepticism about their 'fatal flaws' in the tournament.

Tom Izzo is an overrated coach

I'm finally being vindicated on my take I've been squatting on for six years... about Tom Izzo. If you're saying he's an all-time great, he's definitely overrated. If you want to be considered one of the best coaches, you have to win a second championship.

This is inherently subjective, but Izzo remains stuck at one championship (2000).

Juwan Howard has a legitimate anger problem

This is he's a repeat offender. He is. So he had that. He also claimed last year that Mark Turgeon... was coming at him and he had to defend himself... He's gotten some weird technical fouls where he's like yelled at people.

Juwan Howard was suspended for the remainder of the regular season following this incident and eventually fired in 2024 after several more altercations and poor performance.

I'm smashing the good for college basketball button. Of course it is awesome for college basketball... Rivalries in college sports where it's always on the cusp of turning violent. That's just good for the sport and nothing bad happened.

The clip dominated sports media for weeks, confirming it was a major engagement driver, though its 'goodness' for the sport's integrity is subjective.

Chet Holmgren... is like the skinniest dude ever. And people get really mad because... your reaction is going to be, I actually would like to see you do, this is like this guy's, this guy's going to be soft when he plays against real men... he is really fucking good... but it's impossible to watch him once and not be like, oh, he's going to get eaten alive.

Coach K blocked Tommy Amaker from the Duke head coaching job to protect Jon Scheyer's career

There's a report coming out a new book that Tommy Amaker was going to be named next head coach of duke... and coach K got on a zoom with them and essentially said, I can't have you taking this job because that would set John shier back in his career. So we want you to take your name out of consideration and out of respect for coach K Tommy Amaker realized that this job search thing was apparently he had been offered the job already until coach K stepped in.

The book 'Coach K: The Rise and Reign of Mike Krzyzewski' by Ian O'Connor indeed reported this specific interference.

Talent wise, they might be the best NCAA basketball team that I've seen in the last 30 years.

While talented, Gonzaga lost in the Sweet 16 to Arkansas and did not live up to the 'best in 30 years' billing compared to teams like 2012 Kentucky or 2001 Duke.

Coach K is currently coaching for his job and legacy

I think that their [Duke's] players are so good that Coach K would be on the hot seat if he didn't win a title with these players. He is coaching for his job. We need to update that as the year goes on because if Coach K does not win a title with this extremely talented team, this would go down as the worst job coaching that he ever did in his entire life.

John Scheyer will be successful because he knows how the Duke system operates

But I think he will, with the right boosters and connections and bag men, I think he will be very successful at Duke. So, and I think just having a guy who won a national title for Coach K be the guy who's now coaching, I think it's a fairly easy transition.

A Gonzaga-Baylor championship game won't appeal to casual sports fans as much as Blue Bloods

If we can get Gonzaga-Baylor, it would be great for intercollege basketball fans, but the casual sports fan, maybe not. They won't set aside the time if it was Duke versus Kentucky in the championship.

The 2021 National Championship game (Baylor vs. Gonzaga) had roughly 16.9 million viewers, which was a record low at the time, supporting the idea that casual viewers didn't flock to it like they do for traditional blue bloods.

Roy Williams has been a better coach than Coach K since he joined the ACC

I actually do feel like my take about [Roy Williams] being a better coach than Coach K has been vindicated at this point. Since he's been at North Carolina, North Carolina has five Final Four appearances. Duke's only had three. They've won the ACC in the regular season nine times to Coach K's three since he's been there. I think in terms of the ACC, it actually is cut and dry that Roy Williams has been a better coach since he's gotten to the ACC.

The stats cited (Final Fours and ACC titles since 2003) were factually accurate at the time of Roy's retirement. However, Coach K has more total titles and wins.
