Eli Manning on Peyton, Hall of Fame, and Big Cat’s Big Announcement
The Masters are finally here, and while the absence of Tiger Woods is palpable, the energy at Augusta is as weird as ever. Between the dry greens and the suspicious soundtrack, PFT is convinced the atmosphere is being manufactured in a sound booth. He’s been listening closely to the broadcast and thinks he’s found a glitch in the simulation.
Augusta National pipes in bird noises for the Masters broadcast
I'm more convinced than ever that the birds are actually piped in crowd noise. Agreed. There's one bird in particular. They play its call over and over and over. It's a cardinal, I think. They're getting sloppy with it. I think it might be a whippoorwill. But whatever it is, it's very obvious.
Bryson DeChambeau is out there trying to turn the course into a par 67, but the early returns aren't looking great. Big Cat noticed that the physics of Bryson's body seem to change based on his scorecard. When he's winning, he's a physical marvel; when he's over par, the aesthetic shifts significantly.
Bryson DeChambeau looks fat when he is playing poorly
When you're bigger and you're doing well, you're strong. And when you're doing poorly, you're fat. And he looks fat today. Not to body shame, but there's something about the plus four next to his name that the strength now becomes a little pudgy.
While the guys are pulling for Brooks Koepka, PFT finds himself in the strange position of respecting Patrick Reed’s commitment to being a heel. There is something authentic about a guy who knows he’s the villain and leans into it, unlike Bryson, who seems desperate for everyone to think he's the smartest guy in the room.
I like Patrick Reed more than Bryson DeChambeau because Reed is a genuine villain
I somehow like Patrick Reed more because he's more of a villain than Bryson is... He's the ultimate heel in golf. Bryson is like, he's an aspiring heel. [Reed] knows everyone hates him, and he kind of has just accepted it.
Speaking of Brooks, the fact that he is even walking the course right now is nothing short of a miracle. Big Cat isn't making excuses for the scoreboard, but he is acknowledging the sheer grit it takes to play top-tier golf while your knee is held together by thoughts and prayers.
Brooks Koepka playing the Masters on one leg is the most heroic thing in sports history
Brooks is playing on basically one leg. It's probably the most heroic thing I've ever seen in any sport ever. This is like Willis Reed. This is Kirk Gibson. Everything that you can think of where someone just triumphs over all these injuries and hardships, that's Brooks shooting plus two today.
Future Hall of Famer Eli Manning
Eli Manning joined the show to discuss his new NFT collection, his career with the Giants, and the eternal debate over his Hall of Fame credentials. Eli handled the pressure with his trademark poise, proving he’s just as comfortable dodging questions about his legacy as he was dodging pass rushers in the pocket.
I'm not far-fetched as a Hall of Famer, but I'm not conceited enough to say I belong yet
To think of yourself belonging with such legends and icons, I'm not that conceited and not that confident in myself to say that I belong with those people. But if they invite me to join them, I would gladly take a seat and it would be a great honor.
We finally got the truth about the famous "Omaha" cadence. While Peyton might be the one with the steak deals and the keys to the city, Eli dropped a bombshell about where the call actually originated. It turns out the Manning brothers might have been borrowing from the TB12 playbook long before it became a national phenomenon.
Tom Brady and the Patriots were using the 'Omaha' cadence before Peyton Manning
Originally, the Patriots, Tom Brady was using it back in probably 2005 and 2006. And his quarterback coach, John Huffnagle, came from the Patriots to the Giants... He had it in our playbook in 2004. So, Patriots are probably using that in 01, 02, at least... then Peyton kind of made it famous.
Fyre Fest and the Big Reveal
Fyre Fest of the week featured the usual drama, including Hank’s suspicious vaccination story and his social anxiety at the dog park. Jake Marsh also had to answer for a viral clip from his broadcasting career where he struggled with a very common financial term.
I genuinely didn't know the T in 'mortgage' was silent
I genuinely thought that's it. I didn't know the T was silent... I missed that once. I've gotten criticism in my broadcasting career. I've gotten destroyed for this... It's my fault. I messed up.
To wrap up the show, Big Cat dropped the announcement he's been teasing: he is officially becoming a Girl Dad this June. He's already preparing for the total lifestyle shift that comes with raising a daughter and how it will fundamentally change his perspective on the sports world.
I'm going to be a huge fan of women's sports once my daughter is born
I'm having another child. It's going to be a girl... As of June, I'm going to be forced to do a podcast with a bunch of misogynists, and I'm no longer going to be a misogynist. For some reason, I just love watching women's sports now. That just happened overnight.
Good luck to everyone's bets this weekend, except for Hank, who deserves to lose for betting against our friend Brooks.
