Jimmy Tatro on Home Economics, Baylor's Dominance, and Sam Darnold's New Start
The college basketball season ended with a thud for Gonzaga, but Baylor looked like a freight train that wasn't stopping for anyone. Big Cat was fully convinced that the Bears reached a level of dominance we haven't seen in a long time, especially after they dismantled an undefeated team that everyone had spent months crowning.
No one in the world was beating Baylor in the National Championship game
No one in the world was beating Baylor on Monday night. And I think that we spent all year talking about how great Gonzaga was, rightfully so, because they were undefeated. But the real debate now is, is Baylor an all-time great team? Because they destroyed everyone in the tournament.
While the Zags fell short, the conversation shifted to whether they even belonged in the same tier as the champions. Big Cat is already putting Baylor in a very elite tier of historical champions, noting that their only struggle during the tournament was trying to cover a massive spread against Hartford.
Baylor is already in the conversation for the best college basketball champion of the last 30 years
Baylor is already in the conversation for best champion in the last 30 years. [They] destroyed everyone in the tournament. The only team that covered against Baylor was the University of Hartford.
Naturally, PFT and Big Cat couldn't let Gonzaga off the hook for their strength of schedule. Between the WCC being a "Mickey Mouse" league and Drew Timmy’s mustache-stroking while being down by 15, the guys weren't exactly offering a shoulder to cry on for the Spokane faithful.
Gonzaga should absolutely play in a real conference
Well, you should play in a real conference. You should absolutely play in a real conference. Yes, I'm going to say that with my chest. And yeah, a lot of it has to do with the fact that there aren't a ton of Gonzaga fans out there. It's not like we're talking shit about the Steelers... With Gonzaga, it's like free play. Consequence free zone.
Panthers Gamble on Sam Darnold
The NFL news cycle stayed hot with Sam Darnold being shipped off to Carolina. Big Cat is skeptical about whether a change of scenery can actually fix a quarterback who has spent his career seeing ghosts, even if he is finally escaping the clutches of Adam Gase.
Sam Darnold likely won't ever be an incredible quarterback and is a finished product
When does this ever work? Sam Darnold kind of probably is what he is. Even though he's with Adam Gase, is he really going to be incredible? ... It feels like a precarious way forward.
There was also a lot of talk about what could have been. Big Cat floated the idea that Darnold’s entire career trajectory changed the moment he caught mono in his second season. It’s the ultimate "sliding doors" moment for a guy who went from the savior of the Jets to a reclamation project in the NFC South.
If Sam Darnold never gets mono, his career would have been completely different
My question is, does Sam Darnold get traded from the Jets if he never gets mono? Is that the sliding door moment of Sam Darnold's entire life? I actually kind of think it is... If he never gets mono, is he something different? And I actually kind of think yes.
Jimmy Tatro and White Boy Summer
Recurring guest and newly minted sitcom star Jimmy Tatro joined the show to discuss his new ABC show, *Home Economics*. Jimmy talked about the transition from being a YouTube creator to a network TV star and his skepticism about the "White Boy Summer" movement started by Chet Hanks.
When the conversation shifted to the NBA, Jimmy, a die-hard Lakers fan, didn't hold back on the current state of super teams. He specifically targeted the Brooklyn Nets and the way Kevin Durant seems to suck the soul out of every franchise he joins.
Every team Kevin Durant joins becomes 'whack'
Every team KD goes to, he makes them whack, you know? I love the Warriors. The Warriors were cool. They had their thing going. And then KD showed up to the party and was like, wait, guys, include me. And then I hated the Warriors. And then, you know, he went to the Nets. And now they're like, you know... If they don't win the championship, they're so whack.
Jimmy also shared some mutual hatred for the Clippers with the guys. It’s not just about the rivalry; it’s about the lack of class from a fan base that started "yapping" before they ever actually achieved anything of substance on the court.
I hate the Clippers because they started yapping before they ever won anything
I hate the Clippers. I didn't used to hate the Clippers... It was just that once they started getting a little bit good, all of a sudden these Clipper fans, everyone wants to talk now. ... Win with grace, win with class, act like you've been there before even though you haven't.
Hot Seat/Cool Throne
Hot Seat/Cool Throne featured the inevitable fallout from Paul Pierce's legendary Instagram Live session. While ESPN decided to part ways, Big Cat stood up for the Truth, arguing that a man should be allowed to enjoy his Saturday night without losing his job.
Paul Pierce should not have been fired by ESPN for his Instagram Live video
He shouldn't have been fired. It's stupid. Let the man live. I agree. ... Paul Pierce's Saturday night is my fucking Sunday afternoon.
PFT also looked toward the future of game shows, specifically Aaron Rodgers' stint as the host of *Jeopardy!*. With Rodgers' intellectual curiosity and his love for being the smartest guy in the room, PFT thinks it's a match made in heaven.
Aaron Rodgers is the perfect fit to host Jeopardy!
I do think that this is the perfect fit for Aaron Rodgers. I think it's everything that he loves. I watched Jeopardy a lot, and it features mustaches heavily, and it features the host who gets to know the answers to everything and feel smarter than everybody else, which is exactly in Aaron Rodgers' name.
To wrap things up, the guys looked ahead to the Masters, which Big Cat considers the perfect medicinal viewing after the chaos of the tournament. It's the only time of year where napping on the couch to the sound of birds chirping is considered a high-level sports consumption experience.
The Masters is the best 'come down' from the stress of March Madness
There's nothing better, though, than the Masters come down from the March Madness. It is really the greatest... Like set up because it's high impact, high stress sports watching for three, four weeks. And then you get the most low impact, good on your knees, napping on the couch in and out the best type of sports watching.
Hopefully, Dustin Johnson remembered to pack his shoes this time around so we don't have any more staircase-related heartbreaks.
