Dan Dakich and Frank Kaminsky on NCAA Scandals, Chris Farley, and Pro Ball
The Jacksonville Jaguars finally did the right thing and backed up the Brink's truck for the BOAT. Big Cat and PFT are officially celebrating the news that Blake Bortles signed a massive extension, meaning the dream of 10% of his future earnings is one step closer to reality. With the Jags front office staying intact, the guys are already penciling in a Super Bowl run.
Blake Bortles is a lock to be the Jaguars' starter next year
So I guess Blake is, I guess, a minute as a starter next year. Yeah. So Kirk Cousins, one less spot.
Speaking of ownership, Big Cat, PFT, and Hank are officially international sports moguls. They’ve purchased a stake in the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian Basketball League. The strategy is simple: buy the off-brands, threaten to move the team to Tasmania for tax breaks, and immediately target the best available talent in the upcoming draft.
The New Zealand Breakers should draft Josh Allen with their first pick
With our first pick, we're drafting Josh Allen. I don't think we're allowed to do that... We've offered Josh Allen a spot on the roster. Yes, we're going to do a lot of stuff even though I don't think we're allowed to do that either.
Curling Controversy and Sleep Accidents
The Winter Olympics are officially over, and Big Cat is already fed up with the quadrennial tradition of Americans pretending to care about sliding stones on ice. While Team Shuster brought home the gold, he isn't buying the hype that this is the next big thing in American sports.
Curling will not become a mainstream popular sport in America
I'm not going to hate on curling. But don't fucking tell me curling is going to be big... don't start doing the Darren Revell and telling me that esports are going to take over the world and our kids are going to be playing curling soon... it's shuffleboard that we play when we're drunk at a bar.
Before getting into the heavy NCAA news, PFT had to clear the air regarding a "mistake counter" reset. After a rough bout with Chipotle, PFT experienced a "Schrodinger’s turd" situation where he woke up to a disaster in his underwear. Big Cat ruled it wasn't a true "pooping of the pants" because PFT was asleep and pantsless, placing the blame entirely on "Sleep PFT."
Who's Back and Blind Resumes
Hank is riding the Philadelphia high, noting that the city hasn't lost since the Super Bowl, though he's realistic about when the magic will run out.
The Philadelphia sports winning streak will end when baseball season starts
I mean, I don't know when this run is going to cease. Probably baseball season. Hopefully. Definitely baseball season.
In the world of golf, Justin Thomas made himself a target by having a heckler ejected for shouting "get in the bunker." PFT was not a fan of the move, suggesting that if you let a guy yelling about sand traps get under your skin, you’ve already lost.
Justin Thomas is a 'pussy' for having a heckler kicked out
Your day's done. Had him kicked out. Had him kicked out. What a fucking dick. Which just means that hecklers are inside Justin Thomas' head, even though he won... What a little pussy that guy is.
Big Cat brought up a more serious threat to the sports world: Zaza Pachulia. After Zaza’s latest "accidental" fall onto Russell Westbrook’s legs, the guys are calling for an FBI investigation into his clumsiness.
Zaza Pachulia is the biggest threat to the NBA's health because he hurts superstars
The NBA is probably the healthiest league overall when you think about growth. Zaza Pachulia is the one thing that could break it all down because he just hurts people left and right... He hurt Kevin Durant, his own player. He hurt Kawhi, the Spurs... The guy is a menace.
Dan Dakich on the NCAA Mess
Friend of the program Dan Dakich joined the show to discuss the FBI wiretaps rocking college basketball. While many think the sport is dying, Dakich argues that the federal government stepping in is the only way to actually clean up a system that incentivizes cheating.
Any college coach who knowingly commits a major violation should be banned for life
Knowingly commit a major violation, you are banned from coaching college basketball. You can go coach NAIA. You can go coach the pros. You can coach high school. But you can't coach college basketball.
Dakich didn't hold back on the "one and done" rule either, arguing that if kids are good enough to play for millions, they should be allowed to go straight to the league.
The best basketball players in the NBA came straight out of high school, so let them go pro
The best players in the NBA, damn near, came straight out of high school, and I'm going to Kobe [Bryant] and LeBron [James]... basketball, let them go. Absolutely. Let them go. Let them try. If they don't make it, hell, I'd even say if a kid went out of high school, went in a draft, he didn't get drafted, let him go to college.
However, the real controversy started when Dakich admitted he doesn't think Chris Farley is funny and wasn't entirely sure if the legendary comedian was even dead. It’s a bold stance to take in front of the PMT audience, but Dakich is more than happy to die on the Andrew Dice Clay hill.
Frank Kaminsky's Player Perspective
Former Wisconsin legend and Charlotte Hornets forward Frank Kaminsky hopped on to give the player's side of the NCAA scandal. Having played four years at the highest level, Kaminsky admitted he was offered things but stayed clean to protect his pro future. He thinks the current system is a "crock of shit" and has a radical solution for the big programs.
Top football and basketball conferences should break away from the NCAA
I think the biggest thing that could change the NCAA as a whole is if the top 100 basketball and top 100 football conferences or teams – just completely break off from the NCAA and form their own thing. I think that's the best thing they could do because then they can play by their own rules in a sense.
Kaminsky also confirmed what everyone suspected: once you get to the NBA, nobody is hiding the fact that they were getting bags of cash in college.
NBA players are completely open about having been paid in college
[Do you talk to guys in the NBA circles that you know got paid? Are they open about it?] Absolutely. Yeah. And it's just kind of like, yeah, of course I got paid. Why wouldn't I have gotten paid? Yeah, that's pretty much what it is. It's like, yeah, I got paid. Who cares? They're gone now.
Stay Woke and PR 101
To wrap things up, the guys looked at Geno Smith’s recent foray into the Flat Earth community. PFT thinks Geno is just following the Kyrie Irving blueprint for staying in the headlines during the offseason.
Geno Smith is claiming the earth is flat as a media hack to stay relevant
when I saw him tweeting out videos today about it, my first thought was he's launching some new brand awareness thing. And so it was a great way to get back in the national conversation. Right. Was tweeting about how the earth flies. That is a hack into the media. Just tweet something. It's too easy.
Finally, Marcus Peters provided a masterclass in PR 101. After old, questionable tweets resurfaced following his trade to the Rams, Big Cat noted that Peters had already provided the perfect legal defense.
Everything Marcus Peters tweets is excusable because he admitted he is 'hella dumb'
It's a disclaimer on everything Marcus Peters said. He says, 'I'm hella dumb.' Everything he says after that point, you cannot hold it to him. Everything else is just a prank... You can't get in trouble for quoting a song. You can't get mad at art.
Make sure to stay tuned for Combine coverage as the guys head to Indy to see if any prospects can hit a shed as well as Tim Tebow.
