Markelle Fultz, Ryen Russillo, and the Mount Rushmore of Websites

LeBron is subtweeting, Dan Gilbert is being cheap, and Phil Jackson is doing his best to burn the Madison Square Garden to the ground. It’s a chaotic Wednesday as we gear up for the NBA Draft. Big Cat and PFT started by breaking down the mess in Cleveland, specifically the firing of David Griffin. It turns out Dan Gilbert has a very specific track record when it comes to the guys running his front office.

Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is cheap and never gives GMs a second contract

Dan Gilbert's really fucking cheap, and he has, what's the stat? He's never given a GM a second contract in 12 years.

At the time, this was a widely cited stat regarding Dan Gilbert's management of the Cavaliers.

PFT pointed out that even though LeBron gets the credit for being the shadow GM, you can tell when David Griffin actually got to make a pick. It’s like listening to the Beatles and knowing exactly which track Ringo wrote.

LeBron James is the actual General Manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers

It's funny because people do make the joke that LeBron James is the GM of the Cavaliers, but you can tell from some of the trades. Like the Channing Frye trade, you can tell which one's not a LeBron trade. It's like if you listen to a Beatles album, you're like, Ringo wrote that song. I can tell that's a Ringo special.

While LeBron had immense influence, David Griffin was the official GM until this episode's events.

While Cleveland is a mess, the Knicks are a disaster. Phil Jackson is reportedly looking to trade Kristaps Porzingis, which has even non-Knicks fans feeling sympathetic for the Garden faithful. Big Cat thinks we are witnessing a legacy being flushed down the toilet in real time.

Phil Jackson is dangerously close to tarnishing his NBA legacy

Phil Jackson, I think we've said this on this podcast, but he is dangerously close to tarnishing your legacy territory... as himself. Phil Jackson, his legacy as an NBA guy, mind, player, coach, GM... You always remember the last thing you did, and if he trades Porzingis and continues to make the worst team in the NBA even worse, that's some legacy talk.

Jackson was fired shortly after the 2017 draft and his tenure as Knicks president is universally regarded as a disaster that hurt his overall legacy.

Mount Rushmore of Websites

It is officially Mount Rushmore season, and today the guys tackled the pillars of the internet. Hank went heavy on the nostalgia with AddictingGames.com and CheatCodes.com, while PFT went with the undisputed king of information.

Wikipedia is the greatest website of all time

My number one is Wikipedia. The best website of all time. I don't think I even need to explain it. We have a Wikipedia club.

Subjective value of a website.

PFT also gave a massive shoutout to the peak of the internet: the Yahoo Fantasy Football layout from the mid-2000s. It was a simpler time before everything got over-complicated by "updates."

The 2003 Yahoo Fantasy Football page was perfection

Michelangelo never created anything close to the perfection. That was on the 2003 Yahoo Fantasy Football homepage.

Purely subjective opinion on website design.

Markelle Fultz and the First Overall Pick

Markelle Fultz joined the show ahead of the draft to discuss the trade that will likely send him to Philadelphia. The guys gave him some PR 101 advice on how to handle the Celtics trading the pick, and Markelle confirmed that he is ready for the Philly life, even if he hasn't quite mastered the handshake with Adam Silver yet. Big Cat was just happy to report some good news for Sixers fans.

Markelle Fultz is healthy, which is a first for a Sixers first-round pick

Markel Fultz, healthy. That's a first for the Philadelphia Sixers, so we're happy to break that.

Ironically, Fultz would soon suffer from mysterious shoulder issues (Thoracic Outlet Syndrome) that derailed his career in Philly.

Ryen Russillo’s Draft Breakdown

Ryen Russillo hopped on to provide some actual expertise for the idiots. He went down a rabbit hole regarding Sam Young’s legendary pump fake at Pitt before getting into the weeds on the 2017 class. Russillo thinks Harry Giles is the ultimate wild card in the late first round.

Harry Giles has the potential to be a late first-round All-Star

I could definitely cheat and say Harry Giles, the freshman at Duke, because he's done the ACL thing twice. He's probably going to go in the 20s... But he was the number one high school recruit by some rankings when he went into Duke... From a talent standpoint, [he] is the most likely one.

Giles was drafted 20th but knee injuries severely limited his career; he never became an All-Star and struggled to stay in the league.

When asked for a comparison for Jonathan Isaac, Russillo landed on a former lottery pick who had all the physical tools but never quite put it all together.

Jonathan Isaac is the Tyrus Thomas of the 2017 NBA Draft

If you're giving me that comp, it's probably Jonathan Isaac from Florida State. Because on the high side of things, when you watch him and it's good, he's seven feet... he can shoot from three... when he's right, it is so impressive that you're sitting there and you're going, wait a minute, how come this guy's not going number one?

Isaac has been a productive player but has been plagued by major injuries, never quite hitting his All-Star potential but certainly better than Thomas.

Big Cat, ever the optimist for his Bulls, tried to find a silver lining for Chicago. However, Russillo wasn't buying the idea that the Bulls' front office is playing 4D chess by staying quiet.

The Chicago Bulls front office has no actual plan or internal communication

Some people will say that the Bulls are very secretive, but it turns out they're just actually not doing anything... there's actually no thought or conversation going on at the Bulls' facility right now. They couldn't leak anything if they wanted to.

This era of the Bulls was widely criticized for lacking direction, eventually leading to a complete front office overhaul years later.

Fyre Fest and Guys on Chicks

To wrap things up, the guys discussed Cody Bellinger’s insane home run pace, with PFT suggesting the Dodgers rookie might be enjoying more than just the California sun.

Cody Bellinger is likely on steroids after hitting 21 home runs in 51 games

Cody Bellinger... He just hit his 21st home run of the season... He's only played 51 games... It's like we all had that one friend that didn't really drink much at all in high school, and they get to college and they overdo it and just get in a whole lot of trouble. That's kind of what Cody's doing with steroids.

Bellinger won Rookie of the Year in 2017 and MVP in 2019 without any positive steroid tests, though his production later declined sharply.

They also touched on the breakup of Phil Mickelson and his longtime caddy, Jim "Bones" Mackay. While most media outlets are looking at the professional split, Big Cat is looking at the ledger.

Jim 'Bones' Mackay was Phil Mickelson's personal bookie

Phil Mickelson and his caddy, Bones... they are splitting up. I mean, we all know why, right? Two reasons. One, Phil didn't go to the U.S. Open... and two, Bones was probably Phil's bookie, and Phil probably can't gamble anymore.

Hot TakeGolfFireSarcastic
There is no factual evidence Mackay was Mickelson's bookie, though Mickelson's significant gambling debts were later confirmed by biographers.

Finally, in Guys on Chicks, the guys provided some questionable medical advice regarding bloating and the refractory period, proving once again that Billy Football probably shouldn't be the only one giving out health tips.

Make sure to check out Vanny Woodhead on the road as the guys head to Youngstown for some bocce.

DJ Khaled is on the hot seat because he got booed off stage at a music festival

My hot seat is DJ Khaled... he went to a music festival tried to perform actual music and just got booed off the stage because I mean he's all his songs are just other people singing and him in the background.

DJ Khaled was famously booed during his set at EDC Las Vegas in June 2017.

Joe Biden will eventually run for President

The big one is Joe Biden... He said, I have no intention of running for president, but I'm a great respecter of fate. So that is, I love that line. I too am a great respecter of fate... Joe Biden is only running for president if God tells him he should. And then once God tells him he should, well, what are you going to do?

Joe Biden did run for president in 2020 and won.

Dennis Smith Jr. has the talent to be a future Hall of Famer

I think if somebody said, hey, Dennis Smith, a couple years ends up being, I don't know, like Dirk or Paul Pierce, future Hall of Famers... he's skilled enough. It's not like he's lacking the skills to become a really good player.

Dennis Smith Jr. became a journeyman NBA player and never reached All-Star or Hall of Fame status.

If the Spurs draft Jonathan Jean, he will be a Hall of Famer

If the Spurs take [Jonathan Jean] 59, book it Hall of Fame.

Jean was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome shortly before the draft and never played in the NBA.

I don't think [Luke Kennard] gets past Detroit at 12.

The Detroit Pistons did indeed draft Luke Kennard with the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Bulls fans think their front office are morons, but they have actually drafted well in stretches

I'm going to remove myself from some of this because I actually think there was a stretch where they drafted really, really well. And now all you Bulls fans are so mad that you think they're just morons from day one.

The Bulls did have a successful drafting run including Rose, Noah, Gibson, and Butler prior to the post-Thibodeau collapse.

Women carry up to two liters of extra blood during their periods

It's actually a fact. Women during their periods are carrying up to two liters more blood than the average human.

Fact ClaimLifeMildSarcastic
This is biologically false; total blood volume for an average woman is only about 4-5 liters total, and they do not gain 2 liters during a period.
