NFL Championship Sunday, Patriots Are All The Way Back and The Seahawks Win An All Timer + Who's Back Of The Week

Monday, January 26, 202618 takes

Conference Championships and we start with Fastest 2 Minutes (-) then talk both games from Sunday. Patriots 10, Broncos 7 (-) Seahawks 31, Rams 27 (-) We then do some national sports podcast talk, Mike McCarthy to Pittsburgh (-) and who's back of the week (-).

Conference Championship Recap: Patriots vs. Seahawks Super Bowl Set & The Loony Rule

NFL Conference Championship Sunday is in the books, and we have our Super Bowl 60 matchup: a rematch of the classic Patriots vs. Seahawks showdown. Big Cat and PFT are coming to terms with the fact that Hank is currently the happiest man on the planet, as his Patriots found a way to grind out a 10-7 win in a Denver blizzard while Sam Darnold and the Seahawks outlasted the Rams in an all-timer in Seattle.

Patriots Survival and PFT’s Surrender

The AFC Championship was an absolute mud fight. Drake May didn't have his best statistical day, but he did enough with his legs and capitalized on a disastrous Jared Stidham fumble to secure the win. The snow in the second half turned the game into a pure survival of the fittest, and despite Will Lutz nearly winning it for Denver, a tipped field goal sent the Patriots back to the big game. PFT, realizing that fighting against the New England machine is a losing battle, decided to finally wave the white flag to Hank.

New England Patriots success is inevitable and I am done fighting against it

I am done fighting against Hank. I'm done fighting against Patriots fans. It's you, you'd have better luck rooting for the tide not to come in. You'd have better luck rooting for the sun not to rise in the east every morning. I've made the decision to just profit off of it because it's inevitable... they're just a franchise that has a horseshoe shoved up their ass and you can accept it or you can fight against the inevitable and be miserable. I'm choosing love. I'm choosing to love the Patriots from now on because Hank was right.

While Hank is glowing, the guys couldn't help but wonder if the outcome would've been different if the Broncos hadn't been forced to go with their backup. Big Cat is convinced that if the regular starter had been under center, the Patriots would be heading home instead of Santa Clara.

The Denver Broncos would have beaten the Patriots if Bo Nix had started

[Big Cat]: If Bo Nix starts that game, do you think the Broncos win? [PFT]: Yeah. [Big Cat]: Yeah. It's safe to say Bo Nix would've bojangled fried these guys.

The outcome is unknowable as the game finished with Stidham, but it's a testable counter-factual in the sense of the pod's logic.

The stakes for the Super Bowl are already through the roof. PFT and Hank settled their long-standing $50,000 bet regarding the Patriots' return to the Super Bowl, but they immediately doubled down. PFT is putting it all on the line against the franchise he’s spent years trolling.

Drake May is tied for the best winning percentage in conference championship history (100%), while Jayden Daniels is tied for last (0%)

Drake May is tied for winning percentage in conference championship games. [It's] a hundred percent. Jayden Daniels is tied for dead last at 0%.

Drake May did win his conference championship in Jan 2026. This take is inherently subjective/troll-based in how it frames the comparison.

The Sam Darnold Redemption Tour

In the NFC, the Seahawks and Rams played a masterpiece. Sam Darnold officially silenced the doubters by throwing for nearly 350 yards and three touchdowns, showing incredible pocket awareness and chemistry with Jackson Smith-Njigba. Even with a massive defensive brain fart from Tariq Woolen that let the Rams back into the game, Seattle's offense was too much.

PFT believes this isn't just a hot streak, but the culmination of Seattle being the most complete team in football since Week 1.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba should be talked about as the best wide receiver in football

[Jaxon Smith-Njigba] is just a cheat code. His hands are so good. He catches anything that's close to him. His body control, his, he's just, he's just an absolute phenom. We talked about it all year. That he is, he should be talked about as the best wide receiver in football.

Subjective ranking of wide receivers.

On the losing side, Matthew Stafford put up massive numbers in a losing effort, leading to the inevitable questions about whether the veteran quarterback has reached the end of the line. Big Cat isn't buying the retirement talk just yet.

I am officially committed to 'No Naps' for the entirety of Super Bowl week

I will [raw dog it]... a hundred percent stay awake. No naps. No fucking naps. Usually they, it, it's been a while since we've been in like a Patriot Super Bowl week. So it's like, it is a different mindset.

This will be verified during the Super Bowl week coverage to see if he actually stays awake.

Mike McCarthy to the Steel City

The guys also reacted to the breaking news of Mike McCarthy being hired as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is the most "Steelers" hire imaginable, moving from one Mike who won a Super Bowl in 2011 to another Mike who won a Super Bowl in 2011. Big Cat shared a fan's visceral reaction to the news that perfectly summed up the lateral move.

Matthew Stafford will not retire and will be back with the Rams next season

[PFT]: Do you think that this is the last we'll see of Matt Stafford? [Big Cat]: I do not. I think he's probably back... his skills haven't diminished. He's still playing at the same level. Why wouldn't you keep playing?

This will be resolved by the start of the next NFL season.

Who's Back and the Loony Rule

Who's Back of the Week featured Alex Honnold free-soloing a 101-story building in China, which led to PFT nearly having a panic attack just thinking about the footage. He wasn't exactly inspired by the athletic feat.

The Seattle Seahawks have been the best team in the NFL all season

I think that if you look at the entire season, the Seahawks have been the best team in the NFL. [Big Cat]: You agree? [PFT]: Yeah. We got a great Super Bowl matchup. The best team in the NFL and the luckiest team in the NFL.

To wrap things up, Big Cat proposed a new NFL hiring regulation to fix the stale coaching cycle. If teams are going to hire the same retreads anyway, we might as well get some high-level entertainment out of the process.

Sam Darnold is the first quarterback from the 2018 draft class to reach the Super Bowl

The 2018 NFL draft for QBs was incredible. And Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen... Lamar Jackson and Sam Darnold. And Sam's the first one to reach the Super Bowl. Thinking about how many playoff games Baker, Josh, and Lamar have all played. And Sam Darnold's gonna be the first one there.

In this fictionalized Jan 2026 timeline, Sam Darnold has indeed reached Super Bowl 60, while Allen, Jackson, and Mayfield have not reached a Super Bowl yet.

We’ve got two weeks of Hank smirking and Sam Darnold prep ahead of us, so buckle up for Santa Clara.

Get ready for two weeks of the most unbearable Hank we've ever seen.

I am betting $80,000 on the New England Patriots money line in Super Bowl 60

Commenter always pays his bets... so 80 grand. Just straight up money line. If the Patriots win the Super Bowl, you go 80 grand. Fuck it. I love it.

Patriots lost 13-29. The $80,000 money line bet lost.

The New England Patriots are the worst-looking team to ever make the Super Bowl

Is this the worst a team has ever looked on their way to the Super Bowl? [PFT]: The question people are gonna be asking on other shows, not ours. Is this the worst thing to ever make the Super Bowl?

Special teams is the most magnified and important factor in NFL playoff margins

I think in the playoffs, more than anything, it comes true: special teams. Because we make the joke, oh it's a third of the game because it's a cliché and obviously it's not as important as offense/defense, but when you get into the playoffs and the margins are so thin, special teams becomes so, so important and so magnified.

The Patriots will defeat the Seahawks 28-24 in Super Bowl 60

I was playing out a scenario... which quarterback would you rather be going up against? And it's Sam Darnold. I think it will be a close game. I will go, I don't know, 28, 24 Patriots.

The score was Seahawks 29, Patriots 13. Hank predicted Patriots 28, Patriots 24. Wrong winner and wrong score.

Hiring Mike McCarthy is like shitting your pants and only changing your shirt

Going from Tomlin to McCarthy is like shitting your pants and changing your shirt. [Big Cat]: I don't know if it's right. Because again, Mike McCarthy is a good coach... but I too understand how you would look for somebody that's like a very clear change of direction and this is not that type of hire.

Alex Honnold is a 'fucking idiot' for his free solo climbs

He's a fucking idiot. And I hated every second of it... as a person who's terrified of heights watching him get up to those bamboo rings...stood up at the top in the wind forever. Fuck this guy. I can't watch any more of it.

The NFL should implement a 'Loony Rule' requiring teams to conduct one absurd head coach interview

Instead of the Rooney Rule, we need a Loony Rule where every single team has to do one crazy out of the box interview. Have Pinto Ron come in with his ketchup and his mustard... I watch Cortez get interviewed for the head coaching job... you'll get something out of that conversation that will help you going forward.

The Dolphins should return to their old logo and add a Guardian Cap to the helmeted dolphin

Bring back the old logo with the dolphin that's wearing the helmet. Except have the dolphin also be wearing a guardian cap. I think that would be very cool. That'd be an excellent logo.

Inherently subjective design proposal.

Mark Davis would 100% hire Chris Angel as head coach if the NFL implemented a 'Loony Rule' for interviews

Chris Angel... for the Raiders head coaching job. [A] Loony rule. Chris Angel doing mind freak shit in front of Mark Davis. He, Mark Davis would hire him. He'd hire him. He would a hundred percent hire him.

The 'Loony Rule' doesn't exist, and the scenario is hypothetical/satirical.

Tom Brady is 'all class' for posting his $563,000 Patek Philippe watch before going into the broadcast booth

Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend Tom Brady... took to Instagram today to remind us that he's all class. Before hopping into the booth, he posted... big game, big watch. He hit us with the Patek Philippe Aquanaut. [It's worth] like 563,000. And this is just a casual before game like, Hey guys, stepping into the booth.

Subjective evaluation of 'classiness'.
