Ryan Fitzpatrick on Playoff Trusts, Steelers Hot Streak, and Major Netflix News
The Pittsburgh Steelers are officially the team that refuses to die. After a dominant Monday Night Football win over the Dolphins, the vibes in the Steel City are reaching a fever pitch. Big Cat is finally ready to admit that the version of Aaron Rodgers we saw this week looks suspiciously like the guy who used to terrorize the NFC North for a living.
Aaron Rodgers is back to his old self
I think Aaron Rodgers might be back. The Old Gun Slinger... the last two games, he has looked old Rodgers like, and if he is going to play like that, then yes, I do think [the Steelers] can win a playoff game.
PFT has been driving the Steelers bandwagon all season, and he’s not getting off now. While the rest of the world is waiting for the wheels to fall off, he's already looking at potential wild card matchups where Mike Tomlin’s defense can create some real problems.
The Steelers will win a playoff game this year
I think the Steelers, this is the year that they're going to win a playoff game. I've set it all year. ... If they can play the Chargers, if they can get that matchup, I feel like they could win that one.
However, it wouldn't be PMT without a little healthy skepticism. PFT did some digging into the legendary Monday night home winning streak and found some numbers that might suggest the schedule makers in New York have a bit of a soft spot for the Terrible Towel.
The NFL engineered the Steelers' Monday Night Football winning streak
The NFL has engineered this streak for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The win-loss record, the winning percentage of opponents that the Steelers have played during the streak on Monday night football is 40%. That is by far the weakest schedule of any team that's played on Monday Night Football.
On the other side of the ball, the Miami Dolphins are once again proving that they are a strictly fair-weather operation. The candy-ass uniforms and the South Beach humidity don't travel well to Pittsburgh in December. Big Cat is officially out on the Mike McDaniel cold-weather experience, noting that at some point, you have to stop saying you aren't cold and actually win a game.
Mike McDaniel cannot win in cold weather
The Dolphins have lost 13 straight games, including the playoffs, with kickoff temperatures below 40 degrees since 2016. ... He keeps saying that he's not cold and he gets there early to practice in the cold. ... Mentally, physically, in all the ways, the cold has beaten him.
Hot Seat/Cool Throne and the War on Joel Klatt
Hot Seat/Cool Throne took a turn for the collegiate as the guys went after Joel Klatt for his recent comments disparaging the NCAA Tournament and the current College Football Playoff format. Hank was personally offended by the notion that the most exciting three weeks in sports could be considered "unfair."
The NCAA Tournament is the most fair tournament in sports
My Hot Seat is Joel Klatt. He said that the NCAA tournament is a joke. ... Most unfair tournament in all sports? It's the most fair.
Big Cat took it a step further, suggesting that the only way to truly embrace the chaos of the sport is to open the gates even wider. If we love Cinderellas in March, why are we trying to keep them out in December?
The College Football Playoff should expand to a 16-team format
We do love Cinderellas in the first couple of rounds. And this is why they should go to a 16 team playoff and we should give the Cinderellas a chance. I'm excited to see JMU play. Fuck it.
LeBron James also found his way onto the Cool Throne, but not for anything he's doing on the hardwood. The King has officially transitioned into his retired-dad phase, practicing his interlock grip on the sidelines and obsessing over golf content. PFT is convinced LeBron is only a few weeks away from launching his own vlog or getting into a heated debate about the ruling at the Internet Invitational.
LeBron James is officially obsessed with golf
He is checked out. He's got the bug. He's officially obsessed with golf. I would like to see his YouTube stats... I think he's deep into the Pop Does Sports Universe. He probably watched the Internet Invitational.
Ryan Fitzpatrick Talks Ball
Our good friend Ryan Fitzpatrick joined the show to help us wrap our heads around a chaotic Week 15. Fitz provided some elite perspective on Philip Rivers' comeback and why the veteran savvy of a 44-year-old can sometimes outweigh the raw athleticism of a younger prospect who doesn't know how to set a protection.
When it comes to the actual contenders, Fitz is narrowing his list down to the teams that have the structural integrity to survive January. He’s buying high on the Rams and Niners, while keeping a very close eye on the Bills because of the guy under center.
My top five most trusted teams for the 2025 playoffs are the Rams, Bills, Texans, Patriots, and 49ers
The Rams, the Bills, Houston, New England and San Francisco. ... If you ask me next week if the Seahawks win this game versus the Rams, they'll move into being able to be trusted. But you know, just like Shane Steichen, I got trust issues.
The conversation shifted to the rookie class, where Big Cat continues to be the president of the Caleb Williams fan club. Fitz noted that while Caleb's ability to create on the move is special, some of the coaching philosophies in Chicago might actually be hampering his deep-ball development.
Ben Johnson's 'no 50/50 balls' mentality actually hurts Caleb Williams' deep ball accuracy
When Ben Johnson said we don't throw 50/50 balls, I actually think that mentality hurts Caleb on his deep passes because there's a lot of deep passes that he throws that get overthrown because he's nervous. ... It's either gotta be the perfect ball or it's gotta be too far and incomplete.
A Massive Announcement for 2026
We wrapped up the show with a bit of a bombshell during the FAQ segment. Big Cat and PFT shared that starting in January 2026, the video version of Pardon My Take will be moving to a brand new home.
Pardon My Take's video content will be exclusive to Netflix starting in January 2026
Major news. ... in 2026, January, we don't have the exact date, but we have come to a deal with Netflix. So, Pardon My Take is going to be on Netflix. ... the podcast video will be exclusively on Netflix. ... literally nothing is changing [for listeners].
It’s a massive move for the show and a way to make sure the guys behind the scenes like Shane, Pug, and Memes are taken care of as the podcast continues to grow. Don't worry, the audio feed isn't changing and the content will remain as stupid as ever.
Now we just have to wait for the first Zach Wilson documentary to hit the platform.
