The NBA is giving us exactly what we wanted: a Game 7 in the most chaotic series of the year. Big Cat is leaning into the madness as the Spurs and Thunder head to a decider, fueled by SGA's flopping discourse and Victor Wembanyama's silent treatment after Game 5.
The Spurs vs. Thunder series is the most toxic series in NBA history
The most toxic series in the NBA is going seven... the Sj discourse, Wendy's henchman, Wemby not going to do media after game five, the blowouts, the officiating. It's toxic. Everyone hates everyone. I love every second of it, but it is toxic.
Wemby might be the next face of the league, but Big Cat wasn't thrilled with the rookie skipping his media obligations after a rough outing.
Victor Wembanyama skipping the media after a bad game is a 'lame ass move' for a future face of the league
I like Wemby a lot. That's a lame ass move to not go and talk to the media, especially when you want to be the face of the league... You gotta just go and face the music when you have a bad game. We criticize Rory [McIlroy] when he does this... when you lose, you gotta just face the music.
While the series has been a back-and-forth affair of blowouts, PFT thinks the drama ends here with a dominant Oklahoma City performance to close it out.
The Thunder will win Game 7 against the Spurs easily
I think that the thunder win and they win easily in game seven. And we're seeing that a lot. It's like extended series, but the the games themselves aren't particularly close.
Hockey Talk with Captain America
TJ Oshie joined the show to discuss his retirement, the state of the NHL playoffs, and his upcoming trip to the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe. He broke down the Vegas Golden Knights' incredible run and why Carolina is such a nightmare to play against. He even gave some insight into whether his longtime teammate Alex Ovechkin will be back on the ice next season.
I lean toward Alex Ovechkin returning to the Capitals for another season rather than retiring
Me and O [Ovechkin] had a couple pops multiple times... honestly both times he would say something that would lead me to think that he was leaving and then he would say something else that made me think he was coming back... the fact that he didn't make a decision early... it makes me think that there's a better chance that he is coming back... I personally lean that he's gonna be back.
Of course, we had to revisit the 2014 Olympics. Oshie walked through all six of his shootout attempts against Sergei Bobrovsky with the kind of confidence that only a guy who saved a nation's morning drinking session can have.
I would put myself up against anyone in the world in a shootout
At that time, probably any time, like probably even now, I would put myself up against anyone in the world in like a one-on-one shootout thing, right. And so in that moment it didn't feel super big to me 'cause it was just like I was having, I was literally smiling out there.
Before letting him go, the guys got Oshie to settle some internal PMT debates. It turns out that while he respects the grace of the ice, he’s a firm believer that some things are just more impressive than others in the sports world.
Figure skating at the Olympic level is more impressive and harder to master than sprinting on a track.
The things that figure skaters do on the ice, the best hockey player in the world wouldn't even come close, like not remotely close. I think figure skating at the Olympic level, I think it's more impressive.
USMNT Coaching Chaos and Philly Pitching
The soccer world is in a tizzy because Mauricio Pochettino reportedly took a meeting with AC Milan right as the USMNT is gearing up for a major tournament. PFT tried to play the role of the level-headed apologist, but Big Cat wasn't having any of it.
USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino meeting with AC Milan right before the World Cup is a 'terrible look'
US coaches leaving? He's supposed to be the guy. Can he wait till we compete in the World Cup to announce that he's leaving? ... Why are you doing that, dude? ... It'd be like Steve Kerr running a USA basketball practice right before the NBA finals... Could you just pretend you want the job for a little bit longer?
Over in the MLB, Max is finally getting his flowers as his beloved Phillies are riding the arm of Christopher Sanchez. Sanchez is putting up numbers that haven't been seen since the era of presidents who died from eating too many cherries.
Christopher Sanchez is having one of the most dominant and historic pitching months in the history of baseball.
[Christopher Sanchez] hasn't given up a run in the month of May, zero runs. And in that span he's gone eight innings, 10 K, 10 K, seven innings, seven K, nine innings, 13 K, eight innings, six K, seven innings, nine Ks. Five straight games of going at least seven innings while without giving up a run. He's the only person in the past, I think a hundred years to go a full month without giving up a run while having five starts.
Fyre Fest and Field Goal Posts
Fyre Fest of the week featured PFT realizing that owning a pool is essentially a full-time job that involves fighting off frogs and monitoring pH levels like a scientist.
Owning a pool is significantly more work and responsibility than most people realize.
Owning a pool is so much work that you don't think that it's going to be... it is really, it's a lot of responsibility. I'm just trying to get from sun up to sundown, making sure this pool stays alive. I was not ready to be a father to a pool.
Big Cat, meanwhile, is entering his Pokemon era against his will, while Zac issued a stern warning to anyone thinking about leaving the comfort of a gaming console for the hellscape of PC tech support.
Never switch from a gaming console to a PC; it's a trap of technical support hell
Listen, there's gonna be a time and a place where your friends try to convince you that it's time to move away from the console and go to the computer. Oh, I'm here to just tell you guys don't do it. I've been in the throes of tech support email hell for the better part of like nine weeks... It's an impossible task.
The show ended with the announcement of a very special new addition to the office: a literal field goal post from the San Diego Chargers' old practice facility. Hank is skeptical about the logistics, but the vision is clear: we’re chipping balls through the uprights by Monday.
If you don't hear from us next week, we probably fell off a chair trying to install 45 feet of steel in the gym.
