Jim Ross on Vince McMahon, Undertaker’s Streak, and Week 14 Recap

Week 14 provided the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, mostly centered around Carson Wentz’s knee. While Philly clinched the NFC East, the mood is basically a funeral for an MVP season. Meanwhile, Big Cat is staring down the barrel of a personal nightmare as Aaron Rodgers prepares to return and potentially ruin everyone's winter.

The NFC Championship will be Vikings vs. Packers

Aaron Rodgers isn't even going to play this season, and he's going to somehow get to the NFC Championship game... It's going to be Vikings-Packers for my real personal hell.

The Packers finished 7-9 and missed the playoffs. The Vikings made the NFC Championship but lost to the Eagles.

Speaking of nightmares, the AFC North is back to its old ways of being a slugfest, though Joe Flacco has mastered a very specific, annoying skill set. PFT thinks Flacco is evolving the game of football into a legal battle over officiating.

Joe Flacco will eventually draw a pass interference call on a spike

I think Joe Flacco is probably going to be the first quarterback in history to draw a PI [pass interference] on a spike, like when he's just killing the [clock].

PredictionFootballHotSarcastic
This has never happened and is physically impossible under NFL rules.

The Bronx Bombers Get a New Weapon

The baseball world was rocked by the news of Giancarlo Stanton joining the Yankees. It feels like a total cheat code, and the guys are already looking at Derek Jeter with a massive amount of suspicion regarding his true loyalties.

Derek Jeter is a sleeper cell/traitor to the Marlins

Derek Jeter still works for the Yankees. I don't even think that's a hot take to say that... Because it's commonly accepted as the fact that Derek Jeter is a traitor to the Marlins organization.

While Jeter did trade the Marlins' best player to his former team, it was a standard 'salary dump' rebuild, not a proven covert operation.

With Judge and Stanton in the same lineup, the rest of the league is officially on notice. Big Cat isn't even trying to hide the fact that the competitive balance of the league just took a massive hit.

The New York Yankees are officially a problem for the rest of Major League Baseball

Giancarlo Stanton joining them... They're officially in a problem. You circle them [the Yankees] as a problem.

The Yankees became a perennial playoff team and offensive powerhouse following the trade, though they didn't win a World Series in that immediate era.

Good Ol' JR Joins the Show

The legendary Jim Ross joined the studio to discuss his new book *Slobberknocker*. He didn't hold back on the realities of working for Vince McMahon, including the infamous rule about not sneezing in the boss's presence. Apparently, it all comes down to Vince's need for total world—and biological—dominance.

Vince McMahon hates sneezing because he can't control it

He doesn't like sneezing in the same room... I think he doesn't like sneezing because he perceives it to be unsanitary and it's not something that he can control as much as he would like. And so he's not a sneezer and you don't need to be a sneezer in his presence either.

This has been corroborated by multiple former WWE employees and Vince himself in interviews.

JR also shared his thoughts on the current state of the business, giving massive props to Paul Heyman as the gold standard for mic work.

Paul Heyman is the best talking personality in wrestling by far

Paul Heyman [cuts the best promo in the game]. Without a doubt, by far. And the other guys that are on the roster would be well served to pay attention to every word he says... He's the best talking personality in wrestling, in my view, by far.

Subjective opinion on microphone skills.

We also got into the greatness of the Undertaker's streak. While some people want to argue about the "realness" of wrestling, Robbie Fox is ready to put Taker's WrestleMania run up against the greatest accomplishments in the history of human competition.

The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak is the second-greatest streak in sports history

Undertaker's number two all-time streak for me. Sports streak... I rank it just ahead of Joe DiMaggio's hit streak and just below those UCLA teams [under John Wooden].

Ranking sports streaks is inherently subjective.

Outside of the ring, JR is a massive Oklahoma Sooners fan. He's fully bought into the Baker Mayfield experience, calling him a natural "heel" and predicting big things for the Sooners in the playoff.

Baker Mayfield is the best college quarterback in many years

They have arguably the best quarterback we've seen in college football in many, many years. [Baker Mayfield] is a natural [heel]... He should win the Heisman Trophy.

Mayfield did win the Heisman in 2017 and is widely considered an all-time great college QB.

Jaggin' Off and Embracing Debate

Uncle Chaps stopped by for his favorite segment to celebrate the Jacksonville Jaguars being in first place. It’s a brave new world where we have to actually take the Jags seriously as contenders. Chaps has officially moved past the "just happy to be here" phase and into championship expectations.

The Jaguars season is AFC Championship or bust

We're at the point now, the defense is so good... It's AFC Championship or bust.

The Jaguars reached the AFC Championship and lost to the Patriots, so they met the 'or bust' threshold.

This led to a heated Embrace Debate on whether Blake Bortles is actually good. While the rest of the world might laugh, the data (and the vibes in the PMT studio) suggests the BOAT is sailing into elite territory.

Blake Bortles is a top 5 quarterback in the NFL

Name five better. Go ahead, Hank. Give us your top five quarterbacks right now. Tom Brady, Jared Goff, Blake Bortles, and then the list dramatically falls off after that.

Bortles had a strong 2017 but was never considered a top 5 QB by any serious metric.

If the Jags keep this up, we might all be sporting Blake's specific brand of male pattern baldness by February.

Jack Del Rio stinks

They're starting to wonder if it's more than just the water that smells in Oakland because Jack Del Rio stinks.

Jack Del Rio was fired by the Raiders on December 31, 2017, following a 6-10 season.

The Chargers will be the best team to not make the playoffs

The [LA] Chargers might be the hottest team in the NFL right now... ever since I said they were going to be the best team to not make the playoffs and you guys laughed. The Raiders probably will be the best team to not make the playoffs [initially], but I was so right. This Chargers team not only is their schedule cupcakes, but they are balling.

The Chargers finished 9-7 and missed the playoffs on a tiebreaker with the Bills and Titans. They were widely considered one of the best teams excluded from the 2017 postseason.

The Chargers are going to make the playoffs

I am sorry about the Raiders comment, but you were very wrong about the Chargers comment because they are going to make the playoffs.

The Chargers missed the playoffs at 9-7 due to tiebreakers.

I would love to see Greg Schiano coach the Chicago Bears

I would love to see [Greg] Schiano in Chicago. I mean, what's the worst going to happen? He could have the worst record of all time as a Bears head coach? John Fox is doing that right now.

Schiano was never hired by the Bears; they eventually hired Matt Nagy.

Jeff Fisher is a quarterback whisperer

Jeff Fisher is back in a big way because all of his quarterbacks are shining right now... Jared Goff just killing out in L.A... Number two is Case Keenum. Nick Foles playing well... He's a quarterback whisperer.

Hot TakeFootballHotSarcastic
While the quarterbacks were successful, it was widely attributed to Fisher's absence and better coaching elsewhere, making the 'whisperer' claim literally false.

Ted Turner is not an alpha male

Ted Turner's not an alpha male? I don't think so... Ted had too much coverage, had too many things to govern, and he assigned them to people.

This is a subjective assessment of Turner's personality and management style compared to Vince McMahon.

Oklahoma is good enough to win the national championship this year

Do you think that this year the team is good enough to win a title? Yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely... I believe that they have it to do because if we can get an occasional three and out, a turnover... the sooner offense... they're something else.

Oklahoma lost to Georgia 54-48 in the Rose Bowl (Playoff Semifinal) on January 1, 2018.
