Jim Ross on Vince McMahon, Undertaker’s Streak, and Week 14 Recap
Week 14 provided the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, mostly centered around Carson Wentz’s knee. While Philly clinched the NFC East, the mood is basically a funeral for an MVP season. Meanwhile, Big Cat is staring down the barrel of a personal nightmare as Aaron Rodgers prepares to return and potentially ruin everyone's winter.
The NFC Championship will be Vikings vs. Packers
Aaron Rodgers isn't even going to play this season, and he's going to somehow get to the NFC Championship game... It's going to be Vikings-Packers for my real personal hell.
Speaking of nightmares, the AFC North is back to its old ways of being a slugfest, though Joe Flacco has mastered a very specific, annoying skill set. PFT thinks Flacco is evolving the game of football into a legal battle over officiating.
Joe Flacco will eventually draw a pass interference call on a spike
I think Joe Flacco is probably going to be the first quarterback in history to draw a PI [pass interference] on a spike, like when he's just killing the [clock].
The Bronx Bombers Get a New Weapon
The baseball world was rocked by the news of Giancarlo Stanton joining the Yankees. It feels like a total cheat code, and the guys are already looking at Derek Jeter with a massive amount of suspicion regarding his true loyalties.
Derek Jeter is a sleeper cell/traitor to the Marlins
Derek Jeter still works for the Yankees. I don't even think that's a hot take to say that... Because it's commonly accepted as the fact that Derek Jeter is a traitor to the Marlins organization.
With Judge and Stanton in the same lineup, the rest of the league is officially on notice. Big Cat isn't even trying to hide the fact that the competitive balance of the league just took a massive hit.
The New York Yankees are officially a problem for the rest of Major League Baseball
Giancarlo Stanton joining them... They're officially in a problem. You circle them [the Yankees] as a problem.
Good Ol' JR Joins the Show
The legendary Jim Ross joined the studio to discuss his new book *Slobberknocker*. He didn't hold back on the realities of working for Vince McMahon, including the infamous rule about not sneezing in the boss's presence. Apparently, it all comes down to Vince's need for total world—and biological—dominance.
Vince McMahon hates sneezing because he can't control it
He doesn't like sneezing in the same room... I think he doesn't like sneezing because he perceives it to be unsanitary and it's not something that he can control as much as he would like. And so he's not a sneezer and you don't need to be a sneezer in his presence either.
JR also shared his thoughts on the current state of the business, giving massive props to Paul Heyman as the gold standard for mic work.
Paul Heyman is the best talking personality in wrestling by far
Paul Heyman [cuts the best promo in the game]. Without a doubt, by far. And the other guys that are on the roster would be well served to pay attention to every word he says... He's the best talking personality in wrestling, in my view, by far.
We also got into the greatness of the Undertaker's streak. While some people want to argue about the "realness" of wrestling, Robbie Fox is ready to put Taker's WrestleMania run up against the greatest accomplishments in the history of human competition.
The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak is the second-greatest streak in sports history
Undertaker's number two all-time streak for me. Sports streak... I rank it just ahead of Joe DiMaggio's hit streak and just below those UCLA teams [under John Wooden].
Outside of the ring, JR is a massive Oklahoma Sooners fan. He's fully bought into the Baker Mayfield experience, calling him a natural "heel" and predicting big things for the Sooners in the playoff.
Baker Mayfield is the best college quarterback in many years
They have arguably the best quarterback we've seen in college football in many, many years. [Baker Mayfield] is a natural [heel]... He should win the Heisman Trophy.
Jaggin' Off and Embracing Debate
Uncle Chaps stopped by for his favorite segment to celebrate the Jacksonville Jaguars being in first place. It’s a brave new world where we have to actually take the Jags seriously as contenders. Chaps has officially moved past the "just happy to be here" phase and into championship expectations.
The Jaguars season is AFC Championship or bust
We're at the point now, the defense is so good... It's AFC Championship or bust.
This led to a heated Embrace Debate on whether Blake Bortles is actually good. While the rest of the world might laugh, the data (and the vibes in the PMT studio) suggests the BOAT is sailing into elite territory.
Blake Bortles is a top 5 quarterback in the NFL
Name five better. Go ahead, Hank. Give us your top five quarterbacks right now. Tom Brady, Jared Goff, Blake Bortles, and then the list dramatically falls off after that.
If the Jags keep this up, we might all be sporting Blake's specific brand of male pattern baldness by February.
