Andrew Santino In Studio, Georgia Routs TCU, Playoff QB’s + Guys On Chicks

Wednesday, January 11, 202314 takes

Georgia is the National Champion again in an absolute blowout. Recapping the game and saying goodbye to the 2022 CFB Season (-). Ranking playoff QB’s ahead of wildcard weekend (-). Hot Seat/Cool Throne and a proposed wrinkle to the Bowling Bet (-). Comedian Andrew Santino joins us in studio to talk comedy, sports, his new Netflix special out now and more (-). We finish with guys on chicks (-).

Andrew Santino on Mahomes’ Beer Count, Georgia’s Dynasty, and Playoff QBs

The 2022 college football season ended with a whimper for everyone except the Georgia Bulldogs, who absolutely dismantled TCU 65-7 in the National Championship. Big Cat watched until the bitter end, mostly because the over was in doubt, while PFT pointed out that Kirby Smart was already worrying about complacency ten minutes after winning back-to-back titles. It feels like we are officially entering a new era where Nick Saban is looking up at a new king.

Kirby Smart is the new standard of college football

Kirby Smart is the new standard. It was actually a great moment where David Pollack told Nick Saban to his face that everyone's trying to catch up to Georgia... Kirby Smart looks like the new Nick Saban. I know, I know. That might sound ridiculous, but it, I mean he just won back to back national titles.

Kirby Smart led Georgia to back-to-back titles and maintained elite status, though Saban remained the gold standard until retirement.

Stetson Bennett exits the college ranks as a legend with a 25-1 record as a starter, and while he’s older than several starting NFL quarterbacks, his future at the next level is the next big debate. PFT thinks he has a specific path to a roster spot if a team gets creative.

Stetson Bennett should work out as a slot receiver and holder for NFL teams

If I were, if I were an NFL GM right now, I would ask [Stetson Bennett] to work out for me at like slot wide receiver and holder. He's fast. He's like, forget about like sneaky fast or deceptively athletic. He's just fast, fast.

Stetson Bennett was drafted as a quarterback by the Rams, not a receiver/holder.

With the CFP in the rearview, the attention turns to Wildcard Weekend. Big Cat debuted his ranking of all 14 playoff quarterbacks, assuming everyone is healthy. The list caused immediate friction in the studio, specifically regarding the battle of the AFC versus the NFC. Big Cat is out on Dak Prescott after a rough month of interceptions, preferring the consistency of Captain Kirk for a single game.

I trust Kirk Cousins more than Dak Prescott right now

I like cousins over Dak. I trust Kirk Cousins more than Dak right now... [Dak] has been so bad this last like month and a half so bad. Led the league in interception rate.

In the 2022-23 playoffs, Cousins lost in the Wild Card round while Dak beat Brady's Bucs before losing to the 49ers. Dak outplayed Cousins in the postseason.

I would trust Trevor Lawrence more than Kirk Cousins in a win-or-go-home game

If you had a game that you had to win, I think I would trust [Trevor Lawrence] more than Kirk Cousins.

Subjective comparison of trust in high-pressure situations.

While Big Cat leaned toward the veterans, PFT threw his support behind Justin Herbert’s raw talent, even over MVP candidate Jalen Hurts. Hank, ever the contrarian, refused to put anyone above the GOAT in a single-game scenario, regardless of how the Buccaneers looked during the regular season.

Justin Herbert is more dynamic and fun to watch than Jalen Hurts

I still think that [Justin Herbert] is like more dynamic and fun to watch with his arm talent than [Jalen Hurts] is.

Subjective opinion on entertainment value and 'dynamic' playstyle.

Tom Brady should be the #1 ranked quarterback if playing a one-game playoff scenario right now

All I'm saying also if this is one game scenario, Brady should be at the top... You would take Brady over Mahomes? Yes.

Brady and the Bucs lost their first playoff game to the Cowboys shortly after this episode aired.

Comedian Andrew Santino joined the show in studio to promote his new Netflix special, *Cheeseburger*. He talked about shooting the special in Denver and why that city is a secret weapon for comics looking for a great crowd.

Denver is one of the best comedy towns in the United States

Denver's a very liberal city. Right. That's, most people know it as a liberal, but Colorado isn't all liberal. Yeah. There's a lot of conservative out there. It's kind of a purple place... It's unbelievable. It's one of the best comedy towns in the country in my opinion.

This is a professional opinion from a touring comedian.

Santino also shared some incredible stories from his time in Arizona and his burgeoning friendship with the Kansas City Chiefs stars. Apparently, when Patrick Mahomes goes to a comedy show, he isn’t just there for the jokes—he's there to clear out the cooler.

Patrick Mahomes drank roughly 23 Coors Lights during two comedy shows

Maybe 13 the first show... Maybe 10 the second show... the server comes up to me and she's like, 'we have someone that's gonna go have to get more Coors Light because Mr. Mahomes says, finish all the Coors Light.'

Personal anecdote that is difficult to independently verify but stated as a fact by the witness.

Being a Chicago native, Santino naturally touched on the state of the Bears. He loves Justin Fields but shares the same anxiety every Bears fan feels every time the young QB tucks the ball and runs into traffic.

Justin Fields is a phenomenal talent but his running style is scary for injuries

I love the kid. I think he's fucking phenomenal. I think he's a great talent. I do, I do definitely get scared when he does run. Because in the same way that like Derek Rose comparison... at some point he's gonna get clobbered. Right. So he will get clobbered at some point he's gonna get hit.

Fields missed significant time with injuries during his Bears tenure, validating the concern about his physical playstyle.

To wrap things up, the guys moved into Hot Seat/Cool Throne, where the upcoming Bowling Bet took center stage. Jake is spiraling about the potential Ray Allen tweet, so a new wager was struck involving playoff picks and a potential trip to a Chiefs game dressed as ChiefsAholic.

If Big Cat and PFT lose their playoff picks bet, they will each eat six hot dogs for Jake's bowling total

If we beat you, Ray Allen tweet. If you beat us, we will both eat six hotdogs on your behalf when you're bowling. That's 60 pins we will take down for you.

The bet was eventually resolved, though the specifics of the hot dog eating changed slightly in later episodes.

Before heading out, Big Cat officially pivoted to college basketball season, and PFT made sure to secure a future on a certain kicker who just hit the transfer portal.

Tennessee and UConn are my two picks to win the College Basketball National Championship

College basketball. It's back. I always flip the page. I put a future on Tennessee and UConn. Those are my two teams. So I did that after the national championship last night... Those are my two teams.

UConn won the 2023 National Championship. Tennessee lost in the Sweet 16. Picking the winner months in advance is legendary.

Nathanial Vakos will be the number one kicker in the nation next year

The kicker from Ohio [University] just committed to Wisconsin... Nathanial Vakos. I'm ranking him as the number one kicker in the nation going into the next year.

Vakos had a solid career at Wisconsin but wasn't universally ranked as the #1 kicker in the nation.

Two college football championships in a row constitutes a dynasty

I actually think in college football, two championships in a row is a dynasty. Every other sport it's three in five years.

This is a subjective definition of the term 'dynasty'.

A first-overall-pick bowl for the two worst NFL teams would be highly watched

It should be the teams are the two worst records playing for the first pick... Who wouldn't watch that game? You could just play all the games for playoff seating.

Opinion on potential TV ratings and fan interest for a hypothetical game.
