Brooks Koepka and Talor Gooch on LIV Golf and Week 2 Mega Preview
The vibes were heavy on this Friday episode as the show opened with the somber reality of Thursday Night Football. Watching Tua Tagovailoa go down with another scary concussion had Big Cat and PFT immediately shifting from game analysis to long-term concerns for the Dolphins quarterback. PFT noted that Tua's new contract actually provides him a unique opportunity to walk away on his own terms.
Tua Tagovailoa should consider retiring now that he is financially set
I am very glad that Tua [Tagovailoa] got a contract this season. Because now it takes all the financial reasons away from Tua for him to decide whether or not he wants to keep playing football... I would not be surprised if he was like, I'm done playing football because what, this is the third time that we've seen the fencing reflex from him.
While the Tua situation loomed large, the Bills' dominance couldn't be ignored. Josh Allen looks like he’s playing a different sport than everyone else right now, and Big Cat isn't hiding the fact that he's back to full-blown glazing.
Josh Allen is the only quarterback in the NFL other than Patrick Mahomes worth taking over everyone else
I don't think there's a guy besides Patrick Mahomes that you would take over Josh Allen. He's played awesome in two games so far. And this was supposed to be kind of a reset year for the Bills... He's still Josh Allen. That's what having a franchise quarterback looks like.
The Shannon Sharpe Incident and Week 2 Picks
Before getting into the full slate, the guys had to address the elephant in the room: Shannon Sharpe accidentally going live on Instagram during an "afternoon delight." While Shannon tried the classic "I was hacked" defense, Big Cat wasn't buying it for a second.
Social media 'hacking' claims are 100% fake; people just mess up and use it as an excuse
Whenever someone says they're hacked, they're not hacked. They just fucked up. I don't still don't really understand how [Shannon Sharpe did that], 'cause it is a couple steps to go live [on Instagram].
Moving into the Week 2 preview, PFT revealed he is putting his units where his mouth is. With Malik Willis expected to start for the Packers against the Colts, PFT is officially all-in on Anthony Richardson and company.
I am making the biggest bet of the season on the Colts -3 because Malik Willis is starting for the Packers
Biggest bet of the season. I know it's early, but so far biggest bet of the season on the Colts... This is strictly a bet against Malik Willis... I don't think that there are 21 other guys. I think it's just an entire team of Malik Willises this week.
The guys also looked at some bounce-back spots. After a quiet Week 1 for Amon-Ra St. Brown, Big Cat is convinced the Sun God is going to make someone pay this Sunday.
Amon-Ra St. Brown is the ultimate 'bounce back' bet following a bad game
Amon-Ra St. Brown is one of those guys that I put in the category, if he has a bad game, just bet everything the next game that he's going to be awesome. Because we've met him, we've had him on the show. He doesn't feel like the type of guy that takes a bad performance... A performance where he doesn't catch the ball a lot or get a touchdown, I feel like he takes that very personally.
Over in the AFC North, the outlook for Deshaun Watson is bleak. Between the lack of production and the apparent lack of chemistry with his own offensive line, Big Cat thinks we might be seeing the end of the Watson era in Cleveland sooner rather than later.
Deshaun Watson doesn't like football anymore and will eventually quit on this season
I think [Deshaun Watson] just doesn't like football anymore. Yeah. He's going to, he's going to quit on this season. Or the Browns will find a way out of this. Something's gonna happen.
LIV Golf in Studio: Brooks & Gooch
Brooks Koepka and Talor Gooch stopped by the studio to talk some golf and, more importantly, address Brooks' no-show for this year's Blake of the Year. Brooks admitted that about 15 tequila shots got in the way of him answering the phone, which PFT argued might actually be the most "Blake" move possible.
The conversation turned to the mechanics of the game and why LIV's move to shorts was such a massive upgrade for the players. According to Brooks, the comfort level actually translates directly to the scorecard.
Playing golf in shorts is at least a two-stroke advantage per round
It's so much nicer [to wear shorts]... I'd say at least two [strokes]. Really. Yeah.
Talor Gooch also weighed in on the eternal struggle of the casual golfer. While fans dream of playing 18 holes every day, Gooch thinks the standard round length needs a serious trim to keep people sane.
The perfect length for a round of golf is 12 holes
I've always said 18 holes is too many... I think it's 12. Because like the 'black out', right? 13 through 17... 12 is 'cause 12 also is like, you could go golf and be done in two and a half hours. And that's like, for me personally, I would love to golf more, but I can't be like, hey to my wife, like, hey, I'm, I'm gone for next six hours.
Fyre Fest and Weight Loss Wars
To wrap up the show, the guys got into their Fyre Fests of the week, which quickly devolved into a heated debate about allergies and health. After Hank accidentally drank lactose-free milk and suffered the consequences, Big Cat decided to air out his grievances against the entire lactose-intolerant community.
Lactose intolerance is a sign of weakness and most people who claim it are 'pussies'
I think lactose intolerant people are just pussies. I just, when people are like, I can't eat that ice cream. I'm lact— shut the fuck up. Eat the ice cream. If you need an EpiPen, I respect you. If you are, if you like, oh, I got a little diarrhea, dude, that's my whole life is eating too much ice cream and getting diarrhea.
This led to Max announcing a new diet to curb his snoring, which triggered Big Cat to offer some very specific—and very aggressive—nutritional advice based on his own history of fluctuating weight.
The only way to effectively lose weight is to completely cut out carbohydrates
I say this as someone who fluctuates weight more than Oprah. Any, the only time it's ever worked for me, which I've been doing recently, is just during the week. It's no carbs... If you don't eat carbs, the weight will come off.
Just remember, if you see the guys eating a salad on Thursday, it’s only because Sunday is coming.
