Paul Rabil and Mr. Portnoy on Steph Curry's Legacy and the PLL
Steph Curry’s legacy has officially entered the chat. After a legendary performance in Boston to tie the series, Big Cat and PFT break down how the greatest shooter ever single-handedly took the air out of TD Garden. Big Cat watched the game while in a blackout state at a wedding in San Francisco and managed to take some truly incoherent notes, mostly focusing on Dave’s oversized pajama shirt and the fact that Draymond Green has officially morphed into a different player.
Draymond Green is the new Ben Simmons
[Draymond Green] is Ben Simmons... Steve Kerr deserves a ton of credit... for having the balls to pull Draymond out of the fourth quarter. Draymond Green does not want to shoot. He is Ben Simmons at this point where it's like, he could have a completely open look going towards the basket and he will pass it up.
Hank, who was actually at the game, had a much more stressful experience. Despite the Warriors' win, the consensus remains that the Celtics are letting this slip away by beating themselves, though they still have the edge in depth.
The Celtics are still the better team than the Warriors
Hank's going to get mad at this comment, but I still think the Celtics are the better team. I mean, if you were looking for a bet after a loss, they've been undefeated this whole playoffs.
While Steph was the story, the guys also noticed that Draymond's utility has reached an all-time low, especially with Steve Kerr having the balls to bench him in the fourth quarter. Hank was equally frustrated with the offensive stagnation but found one silver lining in the Celtics' rotation.
Robert Williams is the most impactful player on the court for the Celtics
When Robert Williams [is out there], he's the most impactful player on the court. As many blocks as he has, he probably has so many more that just because his presence is there, [opponents] don't even try and take shots. He brings the energy for the Celtics.
Looking ahead to Game 5, Big Cat is ready to put his money where his mouth is, banking on the Celtics' ability to bounce back after a loss.
The Celtics plus three and a half is a good bet for Game 5
I do think the Celtics plus three and a half is a good bet on Monday night. It looks stupid... but if you were looking for a bet after a loss, they've been undefeated this whole playoffs. You'd expect them to win on Monday.
LIV Golf and the Hockey Nails
The Lightning are back in the Stanley Cup Finals because they simply refuse to lose. Even though the Avalanche are the heavy favorites, Big Cat is finding it hard to bet against a team that has won eleven straight series. Meanwhile, the world of golf is being turned upside down by the LIV tour. PFT has a specific theory on the type of player currently jumping ship for the Saudi money.
LIV Golf is the tour for people who are in debt or recently divorced
Somebody pointed out... they said that it was the tour for people who were either heavily in debt or recently divorced. And that's exactly right. Like if you need to make alimony payments, you're going to the fucking LIV. You're going to take the money and run.
Paul Rabil and the Future of Lacrosse
Paul Rabil joined the show to discuss the new PLL season, his retirement, and his quest to turn lacrosse players into A-list celebrities. The Waterdogs are currently 0-2, which led to a heated owners' meeting regarding roster moves and goalie situations. Big Cat and PFT also pitched some radical rule changes to spice up the game, including Big Cat’s plan for dynamic goal sizes.
Lacrosse goals should get bigger as the game goes along
I think the goal should get bigger as the game goes along. First quarter, it's the regular size and they get bigger and bigger and bigger. So in the fourth quarter you have like chaos where it's like the scoring picks up and everyone's like, 'holy shit.'
Paul Rabil is bullish on the league’s growth, predicting a massive jump in the North American sports hierarchy over the next five years. He also noted that the league's success is drawing in high-profile fans, including Bill Belichick, who Paul believes would dominate the sport if he ever switched sidelines.
Bill Belichick would win a PLL title within three seasons if he coached
I feel like [Bill Belichick] would win in the first three seasons of coaching [in the PLL], if not sooner. I mean, I don't think he really coaches football. He just coaches human beings... I think he understands the nuance of sports and blueprint of winning better than anyone... you listen to Bill Belichick coach you on lacrosse and you're bought in.
The Legal Mind of Mr. Portnoy
Our favorite lawyer, Mr. Portnoy, returned to the program to discuss his recent struggles with the Boston Globe’s login system and his deep-seated hatred for late-night news commercials. He’s been doing his own research into the companies using Joe Namath and William Shatner as spokespeople, and the results are exactly what you’d expect.
Late-night TV news commercials for products like CarShield are frauds
When I see them up there, those products are fraud... I mean, they wouldn't be advertising there if they weren't a fraud. I have an occasional check with the FTC site and the Better Business Bureau to see various of these companies have all sorts of consumer complaints against them. And what a shock!
Mr. Portnoy also weighed in on the recent New York Times profile of Alex Cooper, noting that the publication seemed desperate to find a smoking gun against Barstool. Beyond the media critique, he provided the final update on the burnt mail saga, revealing that he has officially "killed the dog" by closing his legendary floor-level PO box.
The New York Times was desperate for Alex Cooper to say something negative about Barstool Sports
It was obvious to me... that the New York Times was salivating to get [Alex Cooper] to say something that would be damaging to Barstool. And she didn't. They couldn't resist getting [the sidebar about Dave Portnoy] in there.
We wrapped things up with a deep dive into the Curry family "swapsies" drama and Billy’s warning about snapping turtle nesting season.
Don't forget to watch out for those turtles and never trust a commercial that tells you it's not a scam.
