The vibes are at an all-time high as we hit the sweet spot of the sports calendar. The Spurs officially made it a series by taking Game 3 at Madison Square Garden, proving that Victor Wembanyama might be more than just a generational talent—he might have a bit of a mean streak in him too. Jalen Brunson struggled with efficiency while the Knicks' offense looked stagnant, and PFT has some theories about why the energy felt a bit different in the world's most famous arena.
The Knicks have priced out real fans at Madison Square Garden
I do think it got to the point where they priced out the real fans a little bit... I think the lowest ticket price was like 8,000.
Beyond the ticket prices, the physicality of the series is the real story. Big Cat and PFT debated whether the Spurs' young star is playing within the rules or if he's crossed a line into being a dirty player after some questionable shoves and elbows.
Victor Wembanyama is a dirty player
I guess specifically, like, I think [Wembanyama] might be a dirty guy. I think he might be a dirty player... The [shove on] Jalen Brunson, like the, what was that? That was crazy.
While Brunson gets the headlines, Big Cat is looking at the big man as the true key to the Knicks' championship aspirations. He believes the team's success is tied directly to one player's ability to facilitate and stretch the floor.
Karl-Anthony Towns is the motor of the Knicks offense, not Jalen Brunson
Karl-Anthony Towns... he's the motor for this offense. You've seen his assist numbers go up. He's the most important player on the Knicks offense. It feels like. Not Jalen Brunson. Jalen Brunson obviously is your closer... But in this series it feels like how Kat goes the Knicks go.
World Cup Fever with Rob Stone
With the 2026 World Cup kicking off tomorrow, Fox’s own Rob Stone joined the show to break down everything from the USMNT’s suspect defense to the favorites to win it all. Rob walked us through his grueling travel schedule and why he thinks this tournament will be a massive moment for American soccer culture. He’s narrowed the field down to a few heavy hitters.
The 2026 World Cup champion will be Spain, France, Argentina, or England
If you gave me four Nations to win it all, the first two are super easy, Spain and France. After that, it starts getting a little bit more open. Argentina... I think they are an absolute threat. And then I think the other team is gonna come from Europe and I'm not exactly sure who it's gonna be. And part of me wants to say England.
We also got into the GOAT debate, where Rob admitted to a late-career change of heart regarding the two biggest names in the sport. He’s moved on from the showmanship of Ronaldo in favor of the quiet excellence of the man currently playing in Miami.
Lionel Messi has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest soccer player of all time.
I've changed, I was in the Ronaldo book for a while, but the last four or five years I've kind of leaned to messy and I, as much as I here, I love the showman of Ronaldo... Messi's not a showman. He's just a quiet guy who gets stuff done in remarkable fashion. And I think I've grown to appreciate that. I love the fact that he had a team and a nation absolutely fighting for him and how much it meant to them and how much it meant to him to win that World Cup.
Ozzie Albies in Studio
Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies swung by the studio to talk about the Braves' dominant run and his absolute obsession with fish. Ozzie currently owns over 500 fish and is actively looking to add a freshwater monster to his collection. He also gave us the real scoop on why the Braves struggled last year, and it had nothing to do with the pitching rotation.
The Braves clubhouse needs to bring back the ice cream machine to keep winning
They got rid of [the ice cream machine] and we didn't have a good year so we we pushed to bring it back... I'm happy in the talks right now to bring it back and the boys can have fun again.
Ozzie also gave us some insight into the unwritten rules of the game, including his firm stance on how a player should conduct themselves when a pitcher is in the middle of a historic performance.
Bunting to break up a no-hitter late in a game is a shady move.
I think that's a really shady way to like break a no hitter. I feel like if you went six inning and you didn't try before that... I think you should keep swinging the bat and just get it the, the like earn the hit. You know, like don't, don't lay down on bound to a basement is playing back. Like there is no need for that. Play the game.
The Wild West of College Sports
The Brendan Sorsby ruling has sent shockwaves through the college football world. After betting on his own team multiple times while at Indiana, a judge ruled he is eligible to play for Texas Tech this season. PFT and Big Cat are baffled by the lack of oversight and what this means for the future of the sport.
College football is now on an honor system with no ability to enforce rules
College football is on the honor system now now. So if you wanna self-report, if you wanna suspend your own players for stuff, you're more than welcome to do so. But just know that the rest of the schools probably won't be doing that.
Big Cat pointed out that while the guys love gambling, there has to be a hard line when it comes to the players themselves participating in the markets they are directly influencing.
Allowing players to bet on games they play in will destroy sports integrity
There are certain lines where it's like, if you have players who are allowed to bet on games, how can anyone trust what they're seeing? You can't. Like it's why the Jontay Porter and the [Ippei Mizuhara] cases... those are big, big issues. And the NBA comes down super hard on them.
Hot Seat/Cool Throne
Hot Seat/Cool Throne featured a deep dive into Tom Brady’s new "Good Nut" brand, which the guys found to be an incredibly questionable marketing choice. Zach and the crew weren't exactly lining up for a taste of Brady’s latest venture.
Tom Brady's 'Good Nut' brand is extremely weird
Tom Brady might just be a freaky ass boy... What do we think about 'good nut'? What are our thoughts? Super unsettling. Question is, look at Tom Brady then look at you guys. Maybe he's doing something right.
On a more positive note, the "US is Back" on the strength of European tourists discovering the magic of Waffle House and gas station snacks. PFT is feeling patriotic watching Germans experience their first Big Gulp.
European soccer fans road-tripping through the US and eating at chain restaurants are bringing America back.
The US is back. And all it took was some Europeans to come visit us and just do like stream of consciousness blogs of visiting like the south... getting to see them discover Waffle House in real time, getting to see them discover just like random little towns, the Stone mountain in Georgia. And watching them really understand what Americana is has been fun to watch. And it makes me a little bit proud to be an American.
Between the NBA and NHL Finals both delivering classic games, it's a great time to be a sports fan, and Big Cat is tired of the gatekeeping.
Fans should stop arguing over which sport is better and just enjoy both the NBA and Stanley Cup Finals.
I feel bad for the people who are too proud to enjoy both hockey and basketball at the same time because we are living in blessed days. This series has been absolutely incredible... My point was that more that like the people who do the con, the Jake Marsh of the world who constantly are bitches and can't have like a thought of, Hey, I like both sports, those guys, the little brothers. My point is you don't even have to compare 'em. We don't even have to do a game by game. It's just both are great.
Shout out to Tick Pick for surprising the guys by sending Memes, Zach, and Cheah to Game 5 in San Antonio. Hopefully, they don't get beat up by any Spurs fans while they're down there.
