Undefeated mid-majors like UCF should be in a 16-team playoff

As a mid-major school, it's tough with the way the system is now to get a chance to get into the college football playoffs. I think they should do it like how they do the 1AA or the FCS or whatever it's called, like a 16-team playoff. Because then you give them a chance, you never know until they go play the Power Five conference teams.

College football expanded to a 12-team playoff starting in the 2024-25 season, giving mid-major/Group of Five teams a better path to compete. Bortles' argument for expanding the playoff to give mid-majors a chance was vindicated by the eventual expansion.

No business gets done in America during November and December

No business gets done in the months of November, December in America. No business really gets done in March because of March Madness. Then April, the start of summer vacation season is usually June 3rd through August, let's say. So really, if you don't get any work done September, October, February, or March... yeah, then you pretty much screwed.

The concept is subjective but widely recognized as a humorous truth in corporate America regarding holiday slack.

The Vikings will be up 40 at halftime on the Lions for Thanksgiving

I think that Mike Zimmer is going to leave the game early because the Vikings are going to be up by 40 points at halftime. This is the time of the year where the wheels totally fall off the Lions. I'm rewinding myself to Thanksgiving of every year for the past six years. We've had Matt Stafford, and I've said the exact same thing.

The Vikings won 30-23, but they were only up 20-10 at halftime, not 40.

Playing on Thanksgiving is a vacation for Philip Rivers from his nine children

I bet Philip Rivers is so happy this year that he doesn't have to sit down at a table with his nine children for Thanksgiving. Getting to play a day game on Thanksgiving for Philip Rivers is basically a vacation for him.

Shaving your head and growing a beard is the only move for balding men

Shave it and grow a beard... my thing was, which I held onto it for a while... and I finally got... I found this barber... He goes 'Dude you need to just shave your fucking head.' That's, yeah, I think you're right dude. It's tough. I shave it. It was just, you know, bullied me into shaving my head.

Personal style advice is subjective.

I quietly retired from the NFL and didn't tell anyone.

I did. I heard Hank mention that the other day and I appreciate that Hank, I have not touched a football since January. I quietly, I didn't tell anybody I retired. Probably just didn't tell anyone. So I guess you guys are kind of the first to hear it publicly.

Bortles did indeed retire and has not played in the NFL since the 2021 season.

Chris Simms is one of the people in sports media who hated me most

If there was one person that, that I don't even know, you know, who hated me... I would imagine like if you asked him, he would be like, 'Yeah, that guy sucked' was Chris Simms. [Simms] hated me. I saw, showed he me a list one time he ranked me as like the 47th best quarterback in the nfl and I was starting in Jacksonville.

Chris Simms was famously low on Bortles and did indeed rank him significantly lower than other starters during that period.
