UCLA has no chance of making the Final Four

UNC, it feels like they're the most complete team in this region... but UCLA, there's no chance UCLA's going to the Final Four.

UCLA was eliminated in the Sweet 16 by Kentucky.

Indiana isn't playing NIT games at home because they don't want to show fans booing Tom Crean

The rumor is [Indiana] is not playing in the NIT at home because they don't want people to know that, they don't want to show people booing [Tom] Crean and they don't want to see the empty seats in Assembly Hall and stuff.

Indiana did choose to play on the road as a higher seed to avoid the 'bad optics' of a sparse and angry crowd.

Wisconsin got screwed by the NCAA Tournament selection committee with an 8-seed

I am biased, but Wisconsin got fucked... they're an eight seed which I'm fine with because they haven't played well but Minnesota is a five seed and Wisconsin beat Minnesota two times this year.

Wisconsin was indeed an 8-seed despite sweeping Minnesota, who received a 5-seed. Wisconsin advanced further in the tournament (Sweet 16) than Minnesota (First Round).

College athletes should be allowed to 'wet the beak' and get a cut of revenue when their names are on jerseys

I like seeing somebody naturally stick it each and every time to the NCAA when they can. Because the NCAA... they make $900 million at a minimum each and every year just off the TV rights to the tournament alone. That's worth having a conversation about. Let the kids wet the beak. Just a little bit. If I see my name on the back of a jersey multiple times in an arena that I'm playing at, just let me get a little bit of a taste of that.

The NCAA eventually allowed athletes to profit from their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) starting in 2021, validating Jay's stance.

Duke runs a guard-dominated offense because Coach K loves having the ball in guards' hands

Duke is a dominated guard offense. It's naturally what it is. K loves for the ball to be in the hands of guards. You see that with Luke Kennard, Grayson Allen, guards from the past as well... it's never been a staple of Duke to throw the ball down low and the big guy's going to get you 25 and 10. That's never been who they've been offensively.

This is a tactical observation of Coach K's decades-long system at Duke.

Chapel Hill was not a difficult place to play during my time at Duke

Chapel Hill wasn't difficult. I was undefeated in Chapel Hill. That wasn't a difficult place to play at all.

Jay Williams was indeed 3-0 at the Dean Smith Center during his college career (2000, 2001, 2002).

Duke will lose in the second round of the NCAA tournament because they shoot too many threes

Duke... they're going to lose in the second round because they're going to shoot a million threes and miss. That's exactly what I said.

Duke lost to #7 seed South Carolina in the Round of 32 (the second round) in the 2017 tournament.

Short, tighter shorts are making a major comeback in college basketball

The bagginess has gotten way too far. It's getting in the way of the dribbles. These guys like to go between their legs a lot, you know, with these new players out there. So they're bringing back short, tighter shorts. A couple guys in Indiana are doing it. I've seen it across the Big East, too, I think. So we're going to see a major swing here. Get out in front of this. If you're a college basketball player, tighten those things up.

The trend toward shorter, tighter shorts in basketball (and sports in general) moved away from the baggy 'Fab Five' era significantly in the late 2010s.

Tom Crean will be hired by another team specifically because he has a 'contentable' face

Tom Crean, he will get fired by Indiana sooner rather than later. But someone will hire him simply because of his face. He's got a brand. Crean has a contentable face. He has an exceptionally stupid-looking face. And that in itself, that's a brand that people will be like, oh, wow, where is Tom Crean coaching? He can go coach the Missouri Valley, and people will now be watching Missouri Valley games because of his name and his face.

PredictionCBBMediumSarcastic
Crean was fired by Indiana in March 2017 and hired by Georgia in 2018. While his 'face' wasn't the official reason, the PMT crew's obsession with his expressions became a staple of his tenure at Georgia.

Rick Pitino's NCAA defense that recruits didn't like the prostitutes is absurd

He's pleading that a lot of the recruits didn't even like the prostitutes they hired. It says at least one prospect reported that this experience resulted in his disliking the university. That guy is a fucking weirdo. Rick Pitino actually got me a stripper with 36 D's so I really didn't even want to commit to Louisville.

OpinionCBBMediumSarcastic
The defense did not ultimately save Pitino from punishment; he was fired later that year after further scandals.

I do not trust UCLA because they play no defense whatsoever

I don't trust UCLA. Everyone's really excited that UCLA is back, but they play no defense whatsoever.

UCLA's 2016-17 season indeed ended in the Sweet Sixteen, largely due to an inability to stop Kentucky's offense, validating Titus's defensive concerns.

Grayson Allen should seek treatment for his tripping addiction

He's addicted to tripping. He's got a problem. He should go to rehab. Go to rehab for tripping. Seek treatment.

Grayson Allen continued to have multiple tripping/flagrant foul incidents throughout his career in both college and the NBA.

Kansas is a complete team that has everything

I really like this Kansas team. And maybe it was because Duke seemed like a classic Duke team where they were a little soft down low. But I thought this Kansas team has everything.

Kansas was a 1-seed in the 2017 tournament but lost in the Elite Eight. They were a very strong team that year.

You watch college basketball to see Duke players cry after tournament losses

If you are not a Duke fan, you watch college basketball for the moment that Luke Kennard and Grayson Allen cry during the tournament after they get stunned by a 10-seed. That's why you watch.

Duke did indeed get upset in the 2017 tournament, losing in the second round to 7-seed South Carolina, which featured plenty of crying/upset Duke players.

Roy Williams is legitimately smarter about basketball than any sports reporter

As crazy as it is for Roy to be this surly to everyone, especially after a win, he's not wrong. He does know way more about basketball than we do. So when you second guess him on that stuff... in terms of X's and O's, I don't know... he's smarter.

While subjective, it is a near-universal consensus that Roy Williams is an expert compared to general reporters.

Villanova is a totally different team than they were earlier in the season when Oklahoma beat them

Villanova's a totally different team than what they faced early in the year. They were still trying to figure themselves out. Oklahoma had a little bit more of a veteran team. They played together. So, you know, that was an advantage for the Sooners. But, you know, if OU goes in there with the mindset like, hey, you know, we already beat this team by 25 and you start overlooking them... Your butt might be going home on Saturday.

Villanova beat Oklahoma 95-51 in the Final Four, proving King's assessment of them being a 'different team' correct.

The Big Ten hasn't been truly relevant in basketball since 2000

Midwestern people in general, we like to shit on ourselves and our situations... we know we're terrible. We haven't won a title since 2000. Every single program in the Big Ten is lost in the national championship. It's like the most devastating thing.

At the time of the take, it was factually correct that the Big Ten's last title was Michigan State in 2000.

Malcolm Brogdon is a top 3 player in the country

He has Malcolm Brogdon, who is... maybe the best player in the country, probably not, but he's certainly one of the top three players in the country.

Brogdon was a consensus first-team All-American, effectively validating him as a top-five player at minimum.

Villanova will win the National Championship

I'm going to have UNC and Nova in the final. I'm going to give it to Nova. I'm going to say Nova is just going to find a way. The ghost of Rollie Massimino, even though he's not dead. I feel like we could get that going, too.

Villanova defeated UNC in the championship game 77-74 on April 4, 2016.

Grayson Allen has the potential to be the most hated Duke player of all time

He absolutely has the chance to be the most hated Duke player of all time. I know that's crazy to say because of Christian Laettner, but I'm talking about with internet culture, with winning a national title, with the tripping, with his face, the fact he looks like Ted Cruz.

Grayson Allen became a multi-year national villain for his repeated tripping incidents and is frequently cited alongside Laettner and Redick as the most hated Duke players.

Duke's going to be the number one team in the country next year. They're going to be amazing. So I want [Grayson Allen] back. I want him leading the charge.

Duke was the preseason #1 team in the 2016-17 AP poll.

The NCAA banning the slam dunk for nine years was the most racist rule in sports history

So people forget that college basketball banned the slam dunk for nine years. And they banned it because of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar because he was dunking on all these white guys. I think that's probably the most racist rule to ever be enacted—like blatantly racist rule to ever be enacted in sports is that you're not allowed to dunk the ball anymore in basketball.

The rule was indeed enacted from 1967-1976 and is widely cited by historians as a reaction to Lew Alcindor's (Kareem's) dominance. Whether it is the 'most racist' is subjective, but it is a widely held historical view.

Michigan State's loss to Middle Tennessee was a total shock

I thought Michigan State... were getting set for a run. And the way they got beat, man... They looked slow. They looked sluggish. They got their ass beat, and they got it beat all day. That surprised me more than anything. I don't get shocked much, but that was a shock.

Virginia will lose because they lack players who can make late-game shots

I think Virginia is like almost identical to some of the Wisconsin teams... where they don't have guys who can just make shots late in the game when you need... They have the one guy and but everyone else... you need to make shots at the end of the games.

Virginia lost in the Elite Eight in 2016 to Syracuse after blowing a late lead, supporting the 'late game execution' concern.

Don't bet on teams playing on the road at Under Armour schools

If you're betting on a team on the road at an Under Armour school, don't bet on them because you can't shoot with those balls... Wilson [is] all Wilson [in the tournament], and those are the easiest balls to shoot.

This is a player's perspective on equipment. While anecdotal, it's a verifiable claim about ball manufacturers in the 2016 NCAA tournament.
