The 2026 Gold Medal will grow US hockey by bringing in kids from non-traditional states

The 1980 Olympic gold medal meant so much for guys like me... This game right now, what it can mean for a sport. You're going to get kids from different cultures, different backgrounds playing hockey that never did. It was 12 states represented [on this team]. The 1980 teams was probably strictly Michigan, Minnesota and Massachusetts. This effect is going to take us even further.

The long-term impact on registration numbers and NHL draft picks from non-traditional states will take years to verify.

Connor McDavid will leave the Oilers after the next three seasons

He's Gonzo win or lose. We have three seasons left with Connor McDavid. That's my opinion... after three years, so three more playoffs. I think that would've been 13 years for McDavid.

McDavid's free agency or trade status will be clear after the 2027-28 NHL season.

The Colorado Avalanche are the absolute 'wagon' of the NHL

Colorado is the wagon guys. Colorado's the one that you're scared of... I can't help but see them running through the entire league and then winning the Stanley Cup with ease. Right now they are on pace to break the Bruins record for most points.

The conclusion of the 2025-26 NHL season will verify if they win the Cup or set the points record.

The Anaheim Ducks will win a Stanley Cup within the next eight years

This prediction has a 2033 deadline.

The Edmonton Oilers are choke artists and will never win a Stanley Cup

He [McDavid] ain't winning a cup in, in Edmonton. No. Oh. Not at all. They fucking, they're choke artists. They might, they might as well might as well be Maple Leafs. It ain't, it ain't gonna fucking happen.

The Oilers have failed to win the Cup during the McDavid era thus far; this remains pending for future seasons.

Connor McDavid will win a Stanley Cup, but it will not be in Edmonton

Can [Connor McDavid] win the big one? Yes. Not in Edmonton. Oh, okay. I like that. That's a good take.

McDavid is still on the Oilers and has not yet won a Cup. If he wins with Edmonton, this is incorrect.

The Edmonton Oilers cannot win a Stanley Cup with their current goaltending

I said on Chiclets, like they don't have a goalie that you can win the Stanley Cup with. Now, once again, they were one game away from winning the cup with him... But if your starting goalie is getting pulled and losing his job in back to back playoffs, I don't think you have a Stanley Cup goalie. No.

This will be proven incorrect if the Oilers win a Cup with their existing goaltending core.

The Florida Panthers will win two more Stanley Cups if they bring back Sam Bennett and Jonathan Marchessault

I think Florida's not going anywhere. Realistically they could play again. If they get Marchessault and Bennett back, I still think they'll be fine. If they come back, they're probably gonna win two more.

Will be resolved by the results of future NHL seasons.

The NHL will have an ambidextrous 'Shohei Ohtani' player within 30 years

I think we're gonna get the Shohei of hockey. The Shohei Ohtani ambidextrous NHL player that would rock... You'd have the straight stick and then you drive wide and be unreal Righty. And you'd drive wide and be unreal lefty. I just think that at some point you're gonna see things that you never thought imaginable.

This is a long-term prediction for the future of the sport.

The Oilers cannot allow Connor McDavid to hit free agency

If they are going to move on from him, they gotta do it now because they can get a lot for him right now. He's got one year left. Like, you can't, you can't let him be a free agent.

McDavid's contract status and the Oilers' subsequent moves will determine if they let him walk for nothing or trade/sign him.

Brad Marchand is a lock for the Hall of Fame

That's why I believe he's a hall of famer is because he was one of the best clutch wingers in the game for a significant almost a decade... Brad Marchand [is] the leader in Stanley Cup finals goals [among active players].

Marchand is still active, so HOF status is pending retirement.

The Dallas Stars will likely ban the 'Glass Banger' fan from the arena for the conference finals

I don't think they're gonna let him [Glass Banger] in the building. ... he just got out [of jail] in the last couple days. ... I think in his own mind [he's the best fan], but he's more of a distraction than a fan. Including rattling all the other people who have had peace and quiet for this last six months.

Whether the fan is allowed entry for the next series is a verifiable fact claim.

Alex Ovechkin will play one more year in the NHL before finishing his career in the KHL

I think that next year... it's the last year of his contract. ... I wouldn't be shocked if he scores another 30 goals, but if he continues to slow down, it's just hard in today's day and age to keep up... I could see him after next year going back to the KHL and, and playing one more year and, and really having his final Swan song.

Ovechkin is still playing in the NHL as of the 2024-25 season. His return to the KHL remains a prediction.

Tom Wilson is a bonafide star who should be on the Olympic team

I gotta give a shout out to and put some respect on his name is Tom Wilson. Like he's obviously, you know, he's been around a long time. He's an unbelievable player, but I think he is a bonafide star right now. Like he should be on that Olympic team. No one wants to play against him.

Tom Wilson's inclusion on the Olympic team depends on future roster selections for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Gavin McKenna is a generational, McDavid-level NHL prospect

It's a kid, Gavin McKenna. Good hockey name... He is what looks to be one of those McDavid-type prospects. He had the record for points in the WHL or maybe the CHL... a true possibly game-breaking generational talent.

McKenna is not eligible for the NHL draft until 2026, so his 'generational' status is still pending professional evaluation.

I believe that he does have dog in him and it will eventually be unleashed. He's too stubborn not to become one of the greats. ... This kid is very young, he's very determined and he is gonna figure it out with my help.

Conor McDavid will win at least one Stanley Cup in the next four years

No doubt in my mind [McDavid can win the big one]. I'm very confident that this is the year... Life or death four years, like a four year span, gun your head. I would say they, yeah, I would say they would win one cup. That would be my guess. Life or death.

Alexander Ovechkin will break Wayne Gretzky's goal record in two years

Next year he'll probably get whatever, 30, 35 goals. And then the following year is when you're really gonna see this, this kind of parade as you're describing start. It's gonna be a stroke off Fest, double wrister, every goddamn game that he's, he's on the broadcast.

Ovechkin is still chasing the record as of late 2024. The two-year timeline is consistent with current projections.

Connor Bedard will not be better at hockey than Connor McDavid.

I don't think [Bedard] can be [better]. I think he's going to be incredible and I think he'll be a future superstar. But I think McDavid is a once every 20 years type guy. I don't see it happening.

As of 2024, McDavid remains the premier player in the NHL, though Bedard's career is just beginning.

Cale Makar will be the greatest defenseman of all time

Kale Makar is number two... Kale Makar is the Conor McDavid of defense. He almost might be more valuable according to Wayne Gretzky... [Nathan McKinnon] said that this will be the greatest defenseman of all time.

Makar is still young, but already has a Norris, Calder, Conn Smythe, and Stanley Cup, making this a legitimate high-stakes projection.

I think he's going to pass Wayne Gretzky. I do. Cause if the league hasn't figured out how to stop that shot after how many years he's been in there... He can continue to do that for five years, right?

As of early 2024, Ovechkin is closing in on the record and still active, making this highly likely but technically pending.

There is a greater chance of America taking over Toronto than the Maple Leafs winning a Stanley Cup

I think that there's a greater chance of America, like slowly encroaching into Canada and taking their land away and taking Toronto, than there is like the Maple Leafs winning a Stanley Cup before that time.

OpinionHockeyFireSarcastic
Neither has happened yet, but the Maple Leafs' drought has continued since 2016.
