Warren Sharp on Fraud Teams, Week 11 Picks, and Dave & Buster's Creator
The Seahawks finally decided to play defense on Thursday night, and it only took getting Carlos Dunlap and facing a slightly banged-up Kyler Murray to do it. Big Cat and PFT opened the show breaking down the NFC West showdown, specifically the coaching performance of Kliff Kingsbury. While Kyler Murray clearly wasn't himself, Big Cat thinks the bigger issue was the decision-making on the Cardinals' sideline when the game was on the line.
Kliff Kingsbury is a 'mimbo' who doesn't understand late-game clock management
It was more of a, I think we're right that Kliff Kingsbury's kind of a mimbo. I don't really understand what Kliff Kingsbury was doing at the end of the game. I don't know why they were throwing to the end zone three times in a row when all they needed was to just keep moving.
The guys also marveled at DK Metcalf’s physical dominance, noting that even if he drops a pass, you probably shouldn't try to engage him in combat. PFT is genuinely concerned for the well-being of any defensive back who thinks they have a shot at winning a fistfight against a guy who looks like he was carved out of granite.
Anyone who tries to fight DK Metcalf should be suspended for their own safety
If you try to fight DK Metcalf, you should be suspended just for your own health. Because you need to get your brain examined at that point. [Metcalf] is a scary big dude who's very, very muscular.
NBA Draft and News-Breaking Highs
Transitioning to the NBA, Big Cat expressed some concern over the #1 overall pick, Anthony Edwards, admitting he likes football more than basketball. It’s the kind of honesty you don't necessarily want from the guy your franchise is banking on. Meanwhile, LaMelo Ball going to Charlotte means we are one step closer to the inevitable one-on-one match between Michael Jordan and LaVar Ball, a game Big Cat is confident will end in tears for the Big Baller Brand founder.
Michael Jordan will make LaVar Ball cry when they finally play one-on-one
Oh, that is awkward that [LaMelo Ball] is going to Charlotte and LaVar Ball said that he can beat Michael Jordan one-on-one. I mean, they've got to play one-on-one. They have to play one-on-one. And Michael Jordan will make LaVar Ball cry.
Hank tried to claim a "news-breaking high" for reporting the Klay Thompson injury on a different podcast, which led to a discussion about whether or not the crew needs to have a unified front on breaking news. It also led back to the NFL and the New York Giants, where Joe Judge reportedly got into a physical altercation with offensive line coach Marc Colombo. Big Cat views this as a definitive sign that the culture in East Rutherford has officially shifted.
Joe Judge has officially changed the culture of the New York Giants
So Joe Judge, just the idea that Joe Judge would possibly go at an offensive lineman, a former offensive lineman, now offensive line coach, means that Joe Judge has officially changed the culture for the New York Giants, and they are a goodish football team.
Warren Sharp on NFL Frauds and Alex Smith
Warren Sharp joined the show for his monthly check-in to look at the betting landscape and identify which teams are actually legitimate. The Seahawks defense was the first target, with Sharp being brutally honest about the lack of talent on that side of the ball for Seattle.
There is no fix for the Seahawks defense because their personnel is simply bad
It's tough on that side of the ball. I really don't know if there is a legitimate fix because their personnel are bad. So I don't know really what you can do to fix your personnel issues.
Sharp also looked at the Philadelphia Eagles, suggesting that their path to winning a terrible NFC East involves keeping things simple for Carson Wentz. He believes the Eagles are getting healthy at the right time and could be a dangerous out in the playoffs if they stop asking Wentz to do too much. On the flip side, Sharp isn't buying the hype on the Raiders, even after their win over the Chiefs earlier this season.
The Raiders are not a legitimate postseason threat despite their 6-3 record
The Raiders are an interesting team... I still don't think that this team is a team that's going to go far in the postseason, even though they're 6-3.
One of the most interesting breakdowns involved the Washington Football Team and Alex Smith. Sharp thinks the formula for victory against the Bengals is getting the ball out quickly to Terry McLaurin rather than letting Smith take deep drops that invite pressure.
Alex Smith will be more efficient if Washington uses quick drops and shorter passes to Terry McLaurin
Alex Smith... he's taken a lot of three and five step drops from shotgun. And those are very inefficient for him... The goal for [Washington] should just be to get the ball out of his hands quickly. It doesn't have to be deep balls down the field... get the ball out of his hands quickly to minimize the impact of his legs on the game.
The Legend of Dave & Buster's
In an all-time interview, James "Buster" Corley, the man himself, joined the show to explain how you go from owning a restaurant in Little Rock to creating the premier adult playground in America. Buster talked about the early days of coin-operated machines and the "gypsies" who would travel from store to store trying to clean them out. He also shared his philosophy on entrepreneurship, which is basically that the only difference between a genius and a guy who loses everything is whether or not the idea works.
Success is the only thing that separates a visionary from a fool
The difference between being a visionary and a fool is success. If it happens, you're a visionary. You're brilliant, right? Well, if it doesn't happen, you're an asshole.
Buster also addressed the "Buster guy" from the internet and confirmed that the famous black card—the Dave & Buster's gold standard—is indeed a real thing. Big Cat and PFT spent the rest of the interview trying to negotiate for lifetime access to the Skee-Ball machines.
Fyre Fest and Billy's Math
To wrap things up, the crew discussed Billy Football’s recent weightlifting claims. After Billy mentioned "hovering around 285" on his bench press, Big Cat called him out for the lack of progress given his years in organized strength programs.
Billy Football's 285-pound bench press max is embarrassing
Billy actually said hovering around 285, which means he doesn't bench 285, which 285 is embarrassing... for a guy that spent four years in a weight program in high school and then three years in a weight program in college.
Billy then tried to explain a convoluted parlay system involving five underdogs that supposedly guarantees you don't lose all your money, even if most of the bets fail. It was a masterclass in the kind of logic only a vegetarian who loves spreadsheets could produce.
If you find yourself following Billy’s 32-outcome parlay spreadsheet this weekend, please remember that 1-800-GAMBLER is always an option.
