Fighter pay has increased with every new deal and will continue to go up with the Paramount Plus deal

Since 2001, the day we bought this company fighter pay has gone up. Every new deal that we've done, fight, pay has gone up and obviously fight or pay will go up for this deal. It's incredible for the fighters.

While total pay has increased as the business grows, critics often point to the percentage of revenue shared with fighters, making the 'increase' a point of debate.

Civil damages against Robinhood for breaking user agreements could be enormous

If Robinhood shut down and stopped you from being able to trade, in violation of the user agreement you signed, I think the damages against them in a civil case are fucking extraordinary, enormous damages.

Robinhood faced over 50 class-action lawsuits. While many were dismissed or settled for smaller amounts than 'enormous', they did pay a $70 million fine to FINRA (the largest ever at the time).

Amazon will eventually buy the entire NFL

Amazon is going to buy the entire NFL eventually. You think it was a one-off [the Amazon game]? It is not. Amazon is going to buy the entire NFL.

Amazon secured exclusive rights to Thursday Night Football shortly after this, though they have not bought the entire league.

Data visualization designers and bow tie manufacturers are thriving during the pandemic

I actually think bow ties are getting a big boom because every time I turn on CNN, there's a fucking weirdo doctor... what do they do wear a bow tie. The people who are making the the gifts of like, you know, like the spread of coronavirus the charts. It's got to be off the charts for them right now.

While data visualization (e.g., John Burn-Murdoch's charts) definitely saw a massive boom in traffic and influence, the bow tie boom is more of a humorous anecdotal observation about doctors on TV.

If NCAA rules don't change, cryptocurrency will be used to pay college athletes

If instead of way rules don't change something is going to be the new thing because It is again. That's how it works. It has to happen... it wouldn't surprise me if that's the that's the move in the next couple of years if nothing changes.

While NIL laws changed in 2021 (making payments legal), some rogue boosters and collectives have indeed utilized crypto for transactions.

Big Baller Brand is a better investment than Nike or Adidas because it is privately owned

Nike stock down because the Kaepernick stuff obviously, Adidas stock down. You know what stock's not down? Big Baller Brand because it's still privately owned. That's how you do it. Big Baller Brand's about to have a windfall from this.

OpinionBusinessMediumSarcastic
Technically correct that a private company's stock doesn't fluctuate on public markets, but the brand effectively collapsed shortly after.

Puma is on a five-year comeback in the sports world

I think Puma's going to be on the comeback. Remember when players started going to Adidas a few years ago? Everyone was kind of shitting on it... Now Adidas is back. Puma's on the five-year come-up.

Puma did significantly increase its NBA presence with LaMelo Ball and others, but it hasn't quite reached the tier of dominance Hank implied, though it is much more relevant than in 2017.

Jeff Bezos is building rocket ships just to liquidate his $100 billion

He figured out that the way that he's going to be able to spend money is by just building rocket ships and just going to different planets. That's the only thing that he can do to liquidate $100 billion in a lifetime, so that's what he's going to do.

OpinionBusinessMildSarcastic
Bezos has indeed spent billions on Blue Origin, though the intent is likely space exploration/commercialization rather than purely a liquidation strategy.

Now is the best time to buy Bitcoin

Isn't now the best time to buy Bitcoin? I'm going to buy more Bitcoin. That's the plan, right? You've got to reinvest. That's just investing 101.

In Feb 2018, Bitcoin was around $7,000-$8,000. It proceeded to drop to $3,000 by the end of the year, so it was a bad short-term move, though obviously good long-term.

Papa John and Jerry Jones are conspiring to get Roger Goodell fired

Papa John is running the NFL... He wants to get Roger Goodell fired... Jerry Jones is the leading franchise owner of Papa John's Pizzas... he's teaming up with Papa John to go after Goodell... trying to convince other sponsors to take money away from the NFL, therefore sinking Roger Goodell as commissioner.

Jerry Jones did lead an effort to block Goodell's contract extension around this time, and Papa John's did blame the NFL for declining sales.

Yahoo's name change to Altaba is a brilliant way to hide from the public eye

I have Yahoo on my cool throne because the best way to secretly get out of the public eye is just have a vaguely foreign sounding company by you and change your name. And just claim that your entire company was satire.

The Altaba name change did occur following the Verizon acquisition of Yahoo's core assets, but it was a holding company for Alibaba shares, not a PR stunt to claim the business was satire.

Jeff Bezos is using Alexa to listen to every conversation in your house

Stay woke on this. Jeff Bezos just told everybody that he's listening to every conversation that you have in your house and keeping track of it.

Reports later emerged that Amazon employees did listen to voice recordings to improve the AI, though the 'listening to every conversation' framing is an exaggeration.
