Matt LaFleur on the Bye Week and Stetson Bennett on Winning the Natty
We have arrived at the best time of the year. Super Wild Card Weekend is here, and the board is absolutely loaded with matchups that feel like instant classics. Before the guys got into the grit of the games, they had to celebrate a major milestone: Billy Football turned 23. While Billy is finally entering his Jordan year, he shared the deep wisdom he’s accumulated over two decades of life.
Exercise is the key to mental well-being
Exercise is the key mental wellbeing. In all 23 years, that's probably my greatest [lesson].
Big Cat was less than impressed with the birthday celebration, mostly because he’s reached the age where the calendar becomes the enemy.
A person's birthday doesn't matter after age 21
After like 21, your birthday doesn't really matter. Like it's not like a, I'm going to take the, I'd rather take... I would never want to take my birthday off.
Super Wild Card Weekend Preview
The conversation shifted to the bizarre end of the Joe Judge era in New York. After the Giants decided to move on, Joe Judge went out like a legend by ordering 15 pizzas and enough Coors Light to supply a small army. Big Cat has a theory that Judge actually orchestrated his own exit with those back-to-back QB sneaks from his own goal line.
Joe Judge intentionally tried to get fired by the Giants
I still am convinced that he tried to get fired because if you look at the timeline, he, his job was guaranteed for next year. And then he completely lost his mind saying the weirdest shit, QB sneaks. And then obviously the finale of saying he wants more power. I think he was essentially like, I want to get fired. I don't want to coach this team anymore.
As the guys looked at the actual playoff slate, PFT found a line he likes in the Raiders-Bengals matchup. It’s the first time Bengals fans will be able to send a text message or an Instagram story about a playoff victory, but PFT is more focused on the scoreboard than the history books.
The Over (49) is a good play for Raiders vs. Bengals
I think that the, the over is a good play in this game. I think we're going to see a shitload of points right now. It's at 49. Okay. Neither one of these teams is spectacular on defense and they both kind of just strike me as teams that they, they panic later on in games.
When it comes to the Eagles traveling to Tampa, the stats might favor the GOAT, but the history of the NFC East in the postseason tells a different story. Big Cat is leaning into the trend of Tom Brady struggling against this specific division when the stakes are highest.
Tom Brady is 0-5 against the spread against the NFC East in the playoffs.
The stat that I have that backs that up is Tom Brady has [0 and 5] against the spread against the NFC East in the playoffs. So he's [0 and 5], he's got he's two and three straight up.
PFT is also high on the birds, thinking the weather and the matchup will make this a much tighter game than the oddsmakers suggest.
The Eagles will cover the spread against the Buccaneers
I think the Eagles are gonna cover. Yeah. I think it's one of those matchup things to back that up. I like the Eagles they're kind of in there. The team that's being disrespected the most... I think the weather is going to contribute and I think the bucks are going to win by six.
Moving to the AFC, the Texans made waves by firing David Culley after just one season. Big Cat was legitimately fired up about it, noting that Culley overachieved with a roster that was widely expected to go winless.
Firing David Culley is absolute bullshit because the Texans never gave him a chance to succeed.
The Texans are firing David Culley. Oh, that's bullshit. He never had a chance. That's bullshit. They basically are admitting that you hired him just to fire him. I think [Culley] couldn't have done better than what he did.
Matt LaFleur and the Packers’ Quest
Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur joined the show during Green Bay’s bye week to talk about the pressure of being the top seed and the decision to play his starters in a meaningless Week 18 game. Of course, Big Cat couldn't let him leave without revisiting the infamous field goal decision against the Bucs in the 2020 NFC Championship. LaFleur didn't flinch, standing by the math even a year later.
Kicking the field goal down 8 in the 2020 NFCCG was the best decision for the team
I'll tell you what you look at, how many plays inside the red zone, especially you're talking about eight plus are successful in that situation. And I just felt like it was best. I thought our defense was playing well and thought we could get the stop. And unfortunately you're damned if you do damned, if you don't... had I be in that same situation again, I really do think that was the best thing for us.
Despite Big Cat’s lifelong suffering as a Bears fan, he’s seen enough of this Packers team to realize the writing is on the wall. He’s putting his reputation on the line with a massive prediction for Green Bay’s postseason.
I am officially mortal locking the Packers to win the Super Bowl.
I'm going to do something I never thought I would do... but you guys are gonna win the Super Bowl this year. It's pretty much guaranteed. I might actually mortal lock it.
Stetson Bennett IV: The Mailman Delivers
Fresh off a National Championship win over Alabama, Georgia QB Stetson Bennett IV hopped on to discuss the blur of the last 48 hours. From his viral "Good Morning America" interview to the legendary fourth quarter, the Mailman stayed true to himself. He even broke down the play that almost gave every Georgia fan a heart attack: the fumble that looked like a pass.
I thought my 4th quarter fumble against Alabama was an incomplete pass
Whenever I thought it was going to be like intentional grounding the whole time, because it didn't, it didn't go past the line of scrimmage. I didn't think it was a fumble until they said it was a fumble after they reviewed it. I guess it was one of those things. It was so close that whatever call was made on the field was going to stand.
The guys also talked to Stetson about the "Stetson Bennett the Fourth" legacy. While he’s now a hero in Athens forever, PFT was more interested in the future of the family tree and whether the Fifth will be born with a five-star rating.
Fyre Fest of the Week
To wrap things up, the guys shared their weekly struggles. PFT is currently in a war of attrition with a mouse that has somehow developed a taste for edibles.
It is impossible to get rid of mice in an apartment because they enter through every crack and the neighbors are usually slobs.
The mouse is back in my apartment again. You would think that I'd be able to take care of this mouse and get rid of the mouse issue. But you can't. They get in through every fucking crack... I'm fucked because I guess I'm never getting rid of these mice. It's impossible basically, because if you live in an apartment... there are tiny little holes everywhere that they can climb through.
Big Cat, on the other hand, is embracing the slow decline of his cognitive abilities. While gurus like Gary V are telling people to sharpen their minds, Big Cat is looking to go the other direction as he gets older.
I want my mind to get duller as I get older, rather than sharper
I never want to do anything that sharpens my mind. I want it to get duller and duller as days go by... Gary V being like learn something new every day. No, come on. I'm just trying to just get up, wake up and then go to sleep.
Enjoy the games, bet responsibly, and remember that if the Bills lose, we are legally entitled to a sad Buffalo fan montage.
