I am not a fan of the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) system in baseball

I'm not a fan... I just don't understand why you even have umpires in the first place if you're gonna do the ABS thing. There's gonna be so many more [reviews] in baseball.

The take is a personal preference.

The Guardians' historic comeback to win the AL Central will embolden bad GMs to never give up on a season

The fact that [the Guardians] won the AL Central now emboldens every general manager... because when they're 15 and a half games back, they'll be like, 'We're still in this. Remember the Guardians?'

This is an observation on front office psychology and 'copycat' league behavior.

The Rockies firing Bud Black won't change anything because owner Dick Monfort is the real problem.

The Rockies fired Bud Black... the owner, Dick Monfort, being like, 'we're all trying to find out how this happened.' It's you, dude. You're the piece of shit.

Rickey Henderson is the best lead-off hitter of all time

Rickey Henderson... was such a awesome, awesome baseball player to watch. All his base stealing records are just insane... Best lead off hitter of all time. All his base stealing records are just insane. They're the stats that you can look up and be like, it would, oh, it would take somebody like 30 years.

Commonly held baseball consensus, though technically an opinion.

Mets fans can no longer complain about Steve Cohen now that he is signing Juan Soto.

Mets fans, I, I envy Mets fans... I feel like Mets fans, you can't complain about Steve Cohen. No, at all. Like you, you've lost, that's not an option for you now.

Mets fans generally agree that Cohen is doing everything possible to win, making it a subjective consensus.

Nestor Cortes' fake pitch is awesome because of how much it bothers baseball traditionalists

I'm Now on Cortez's side. All right. I Now think it's an awesome pitch. I didn't [know] it made people that mad. So, I mean, there's no way this is actually like a strategy that could like [work]... I Now think it's an awesome pitch. If it makes people mad, that rules.

The value of the pitch is subjective, based on its ability to annoy traditionalists.

The Mets throwing at Rhys Hoskins was 'unanimous Bush league' behavior

The Mets are already a disaster. They threw at Rhys Hoskins on Saturday after he was already four-for-four and it was total just unanimous Bush league. And we're like, why would you do this after he is four-for-four? I think their manager already got suspended.

This is an opinion on sportsmanship and unwritten rules.

Every MLB free agent contract is technically an overpay but it doesn't matter without a salary cap

If the roles were reversed, you would be so over the moon about this. And yes, every contract free agent contract in MLB history is an overpay because you're paying for past accomplishments and who cares? There's no salary cap. It's not your money.

Jose Altuve is the most clutch baseball player since David Ortiz

Any player who wins World Series MVP should automatically be inducted into that team's Hall of Fame.

Any World Series MVP for any baseball team should be in that baseball team's Hall of Fame. [David Freese] said he hadn't earned it... but if you're a World Series MVP, you've earned the Hall of Fame. There's plenty of other Cardinals players that aren't World Series MVPs in the Cardinals Hall of Fame.

Whether an award should guarantee a specific team honor is entirely a matter of franchise policy and opinion.

Every MLB team should be required to play a series in Mexico City

Every team should have to play like a series in Mexico City because it was awesome... The Giants and Padres played in Mexico City, which is 2000 feet higher than Denver. And on Saturday it was like a softball game. There were 11 home runs.

Subjective opinion on league logistics.

The MLB pitch clock makes fans feel rushed and ruins the 'fuck around' time at the stadium

I fucking hate the pitch clock... because I sit down there... I'm trying to chit chat, socialize like how I usually do... I feel like I'm rushed at a table, at a restaurant that's trying to flip table. I want there to be more fuck around time. So if I get food, I don't miss anything.

This is a subjective opinion on the stadium experience, though MLB attendance actually increased in 2023 despite (or because of) the faster games.

If you attend a game in person, the MLB pitch clock is bad because you want that time to never stop

I agree with this take for games that you attend in person... when I go to the ballpark and I watch a daytime baseball game, I want that time to never stop... Take me out to the ballgame, it doesn't say I care if I never get back. I want to be able to be unaccounted for the whole day.

I am officially 100% all-in on the World Baseball Classic

The World Baseball Classic should allow players to use aluminum bats

In the World Baseball Classic... they should at least if they're not gonna have the bigger bases, let them use aluminum bats. Yeah, that would be sick. Ping. Just here? Yeah, like Schwarber would be going yard. Oh, all over the place.

This is a suggestion for a rules change, not a verifiable fact claim.

[Zack Hample] is back. ... He's not the worst. He's actually the greatest foul ball guy, catcher of all time. ... How about maybe get better foul ball or home run catchers to compete with him?

By pure volume of balls caught, Hample is factually the most successful ball-hawk in MLB history, though 'greatest' is subjective.

Tennessee Baseball are clowns for missing the College World Series

I don't think... it's a fine line between being a bad boy and being a clown. I think if you don't actually make it [to Omaha], then you're a clown. Yeah.

Tennessee was the #1 overall seed and lost before reaching the CWS, which is objectively an underperformance for a team with that much bravado.

Gerrit Cole is a loser for blaming a four-minute delay on a bad start

Garrett Cole said that the game being delayed four minutes was an unforeseen challenge for him. He said the festivities got a little away from the schedule... he's just a loser. Before he came to New York, everyone just assumed he was like the bad-ass dude... then he comes to New York and he's just, he's like sweaty. And he can't answer questions correctly.

Subjective opinion on a player's persona, though the 4-minute delay quote was widely mocked.

MLB should adopt the Savannah Bananas rule where a fan catching a foul ball is an out

Banana ball rule number nine, if a fan catches a foul ball, it's an out and it happened and it went viral... I feel like the majors should consider... if they did that to the majors, that'd be, that would change the game with home field.

This is a subjective opinion on game rules, but MLB has not adopted such a rule.

High-fiving the opposing pitcher after hitting a home run is over the line

Anthony Rizzo's home run made everyone forget about his vaccination status

Anthony Rizzo was under fire on Friday because he didn't get vaccinated. But then he had like one of those 16-pitch at-bats where he had a home run... pretty much all is forgiven. And nobody's going to bring up the vaccination stuff after an at-bat like that.

Ronald Acuña Jr. should be the face of baseball.

Ronald Acuna Jr. Face of baseball? Face of baseball. He should be... He had like a 420-foot home run, and he beat out an infield single on the same game. He's got it all. Five tool player.

The 'face of baseball' is an unofficial and subjective title, though Acuña did go on to win the NL MVP in 2023.

Baseball suffered the most from having no fans in attendance

I'm very excited about baseball season because baseball, I think, was the sport that suffered the most not having fans in attendance. It didn't feel real with nobody in the stands. There's something about going to a baseball game in the middle of the day in the summertime.

This is inherently subjective, though many sports analysts agreed that the 'pacing' of baseball made empty stadiums feel particularly cavernous.

Mystery teams in MLB trade rumors are never actually real

I don't think these mystery teams ever real. Swooping in last-second franchise mode... I guess the mystery team is now the front-runner.

While the Padres did acquire Clevenger, 'mystery teams' are frequently just leverage tools, though occasionally they exist (e.g. the Blue Jays for George Springer later).

Tim Tebow is nowhere near the most famous baseball player in the world.

I disagree. [Tebow] is not. Mike Trout, Bryce Harper probably is more famous. Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez... there's a lot of people. Every now and again, an NFL writer likes to flex their muscles by being like, 'Tim Tebow is our guy.' He's just been playing baseball for four years and just sucks.

While fame is hard to quantify, Trout and Harper consistently outrank Tebow in Q-scores and jersey sales within the sport of baseball.

Regional Little League World Series games are more exciting than the actual World Series in Williamsport

The Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hype will get old by mid-season

MLB, I will say, they're kind of overdoing. Every time he does anything, they're like, Vladimir Guerrero, Vladimir Guerrero... I think halfway through the season, it's going to get a little old.

Guerrero Jr. remained a focal point of MLB marketing, especially during his historic 2021 season, though the initial debut craze did settle somewhat.
