Midweek college basketball is better than the NBA
That's why I love college basketball so much, especially this time of year where every game feels so important... there's nothing like these college basketball games, a midweek game where the crowd and you get true home court advantage. And it feels like there's big, big time stakes.
The 'Players Era' tournament is ruining the tradition of Feast Week college basketball
The players era fucking sucks. There's not even a real tournament... They've taken away and no one's in the stands there. Feast Week used to mean something, man.
The NCAA voting not to expand the tournament is just a way to move the Overton window for next year
They're, they put this out there being like, Hey, we're not gonna do it. Knowing that now it's, it's they moved the Overton window. Where now we're talking about the expansion and next year they're probably gonna let it in.
The Big 12 tournament court is the weirdest looking thing and it sucks to watch on TV.
The Big 12 because they're playing the tournament right now and their court is the weirdest fucking thing I've ever seen in my entire life. And the commissioner of the Big 12 said that it's actually a resounding success because so many people are talking about it. ... it looks like if you've ever put on a VR headset and asks you to scan the room to know where the walls in the floor are, that's what it looks like. ... I feel like if you're a player on the court, you probably don't mind it that much. But if you watch it on tv it sucks ass.
Vanderbilt's constructive court-storming rule is lame
Did you guys see Vanderbilt's actually doing a new rule where they do a minute timeout after the game? So lame. They basically, if Vandy has a big upset at home, they pause everything for a minute... and then the kids are allowed to storm the court. It's Tim Wood's double consent.
Doug Gottlieb is doing a bad job coaching Green Bay and should spend less time on social media
Jesus, Doug, a seven game losing streak in the last place in the Horizon League. Less time on social media, more time in the gym... I think he's, has he won a game in December... He's doing things like his way... sat [his best player] for the entire game even though they can't win a game right now.
Houston is on the Hot Seat because top seeds keep losing to teams with phallic names
The Hot Seat is Houston... In every Tournament since 2021, the top two seat has lost in the first round to a team with a phallic euphemistic name. 2021 Oral Roberts, 2022 St. Peters, 2023 Fairly Dickinson. Three times as a pattern. In 2024, Houston will face Longwood in the first round. I see two right next to each other. What about Moorhead? Yeah. Moorhead. And then Drake. Drake's very phallic.
Jill Biden's White House invitation to Iowa is a classless move
Jill Biden invited LSU and Iowa to the White House. That's fucking bullshit. You cannot do that. Iowa lost. You know what that is? Classless move. Learn how fucking sports work. You point to your finger when you win a ring, you do the John Cena and then you get invited to the White House and the team they lost doesn't. That's how sports work.
Nate Oats' response to the Brandon Miller situation was 'wild' and inappropriate
Nate Oats his response to that said, 'we knew about that. Can't control everything everybody does outside of practice. Nobody knew that was going to happen. College kids are out. Brandon hasn't been in any type of trouble... Wrong spot at the wrong time.' ...It wasn't a coincidence.
College coaches Micromanage every detail but suddenly 'don't know' when a crime occurs
Whenever there's a bad situation, [college coaches] are so quickly to pretend like they are ignorant to what their players are doing. ...To get to the level of being a division one big conference college coach in football or basketball, you have to be a psycho micromanager. Like down to every detail. And then a murder happens. You're like, 'well, I don't fucking know.'
John Scheyer is officially on the hot seat at Duke
My hot seat is John Scheyer. I'm surprised that it's taken us this long as a podcast to put John Scheyer on the hot seat. But he's in ninth place in the ACC as Duke's head coach. And I for one, miss Coach K.
Tennessee and UConn are my two picks to win the College Basketball National Championship
College basketball. It's back. I always flip the page. I put a future on Tennessee and UConn. Those are my two teams. So I did that after the national championship last night... Those are my two teams.
Pardon My Take will do a show from the Maui Invitational within 5 years
I'm gonna proclaim it right now. Within the next 5 years. This podcast is doing the Maui tournament. Yeah, I'm, I'm in Hawaii for Thanksgiving. We'll get a big fucking pig with with pineapple.
Coach K's $14 million salary proves he was never 'just doing it for the kids'
Coach K... it was revealed that he made $14 million last year... It proves yet again, what coach K said was true when he was, you know, flirting with the NBA. And he said, the allure of coaching in college has no price... He shouldn't also pretend that he's like getting paid nothing. And he just is there for the kids. I have no problem with him making 14 million. I have a problem with him being like, I'm just here for the kids. I do this shit for free.
Coach Cal is truly on the hot seat at Kentucky if people believe fake firing rumors
It makes me think like if a joke like that can be believed that much he's truly on the hot seat. This, this it is.
St. Peter's has a chance to become a small-school powerhouse like Gonzaga
I actually think [St. Peter's] have a chance to become like one of these small school powerhouses that ends up like a Gonzaga. Seriously, like they'll make runs with... now that the school has had such an increase in enrollment and increase [in funding].
Villanova cannot win the national championship because their bench is too thin following Justin Moore's injury
I don't know how you can go from a, 'we don't have any bench' to, 'we just lost a starter' and be like we're okay. I have a future on [Villanova] that I'm just going—it was lit on fire once Justin Moore went down. So let it ride.
Coach K blocked Tommy Amaker from the Duke head coaching job to protect Jon Scheyer's career
There's a report coming out a new book that Tommy Amaker was going to be named next head coach of duke... and coach K got on a zoom with them and essentially said, I can't have you taking this job because that would set John shier back in his career. So we want you to take your name out of consideration and out of respect for coach K Tommy Amaker realized that this job search thing was apparently he had been offered the job already until coach K stepped in.
Coach K should retire immediately over his grandson's DWI
Coach K [should] retire right now if he had any backbone and stood for anything that he says that he stands for. You can't have this... Step down right now. Institutional chaos before someone gets hurt.
I am okay with moving the Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen to Saturday through Tuesday
I do actually like that. They're the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight. Sweet 16 is Saturday, Sunday, Elite Eight, Monday, Tuesday. I'm okay with that because Elite Eight is, it's weird when you have the Elite Eight on that Saturday and Sunday and you're like, wait, there's only two games... Whereas now you'll work all day Monday and then you get basketball at the end of the day.
Duke should have changed their shoe contract after Zion Williamson's shoe exploded
Duke should have changed his shoe contracts after Zion [Williamson], huh?
Adding football players to the Nebraska basketball team will change their morale and toughness
Nebraska, Fred Hoiberg has pulled out all the stops. Tomorrow against—I don't even know who—but Fred Hoiberg is bringing on Brant Banks and Noah Vedral to the basketball team. They are on the football team. I love that. He's adding toughness. At least it will be a bare minimum the morale and the attitude that the team will have will be significantly different.
It is Duke's year and they will win the national championship
It's Duke's year. I'm officially ready to say it. Like, it is Duke's year. I know that I joked about it last year, Hank, but I'm telling you, man-to-man right now, I trust only Duke to win the national championship this year... Duke is definitely going to win. They're definitely going to win it all.
Brad Davison has taken the mantle of most hated player in college basketball from Duke
Wisconsin basketball is officially more hated than Duke this year. Brad Davison up to his old tricks with a nut shot last night. I think Brad Davidson has taken the mantle of most hated college basketball player this year, which usually is reserved for the whitest guy on Duke.
Mark Titus had a better college basketball career than LeBron James
Last I checked our friend Mark Titus is a better college basketball player than LeBron James. He's played more minutes. He's got more rebounds. He went to a final four. Mark Titus is a better college basketball player than LeBron James.
Duke will have the #1 recruiting class and Matthew Hurt will be their next star white player people hate
Number one recruiting class. They got Vernon Carey Jr. And everyone likes to root against the white guy that's a high recruit at Duke. Matthew Hurt is the guy. Have you seen pictures of this kid? ... Duke's back.
Tom Izzo is overrated until he wins a second title
Tom Izzo himself is on board the Tom Izzo is overrated bandwagon. He said that he needs another title to validate his time there as a head coach. Okay, so I'm going to consider that a win for myself. And if he wins this year, then guess what? I'm taking him off my overrated list.
Sean Miller will never get in trouble for the Arizona basketball recruiting scandals
Sean Miller's never going to get in trouble for that [the DeAndre Ayton payment rumors]. Yeah. Next he's going to have an exposé about Reggie Bush's mom's house.
I guarantee the Virginia Cavaliers will make the Elite Eight
I have decided that I'm going to take the Virginia Cavaliers for real. I'm guaranteeing an Elite Eight appearance. Because they'll get a one seed... they'll get a one seed, and I think Duke will get a one seed, and the only team that can beat him is Duke.
The Virginia Cavaliers will lose to a 16-seed again
The Harvard of the South is not in a position to win anything this postseason... They'll lose to a 16. I'm a big trends guy, and right now in their last one, the Cavaliers are 0 for 1 against 16th seeds. I'm going to take the over for the Cavaliers in every single game. They'll only play one.
I would bet the house on Virginia in their first-round game against a 16-seed
Actually, we should hammer [Virginia] against the 16th seed. They will take it so seriously, and that's a game that they will have to win by like 40. They can't ever be losing in that game.
I could hit a free throw blindfolded before I would ever miss 11 in a row like Ethan Happ
Ethan Happ, forward center for the Wisconsin Badgers... He has missed 11 in a row. Shut up. 11 in a row... I think you could blindfold me and I wouldn't miss 11 in a row. No chance would I miss 11 in a row.
There should be no preseason or first-month polls in college sports
There should be no polls until like two months into the season anyway. There should be no preseason polls. There should be no first-month polls in college basketball or college football. Take the bias out.
Duke is guaranteed to win the national title this year
Duke is going to win the national title. Mark this down. Write this down. Post it. We'll replay this in the spring. Duke is going to win the national title. Guaranteed. Big Cat guarantee. There's nothing that will stop them.
Duke basketball is entering a major championship window because of Zion Williamson
My cool throne is Duke basketball. So they're back. Zion Williamson, my guy. 6'10", 320 pounds... Dunked from the free throw line. Kyrie, Jason Tatum about to take over for the Celtics. So it's going to be a big, big window for Duke basketball.
Indiana basketball is back because they signed Romeo Langford
My cool throne is Indiana basketball. So they signed Romeo Langford, the number one recruit in the nation. His minister said that Romeo is like Abraham Lincoln. So, I mean, it's going to be huge.
If Villanova is a blue blood, one of the existing college basketball blue bloods needs to be shuffled out
Villanova is now getting called a blue blood. So maybe one less seat at the table. You can't only have so many blue bloods. Are we going to shuffle someone out? I don't know.
Duke will win the 2019 national championship with Zion Williamson
2019 Duke national champions. No even reason to play the season. You can just mark it down right now. Duke is winning the title next year.
Butler is doomed in the tournament because live animals aren't allowed in the stadium
In the first two rounds of this tournament, there will be zero live animals allowed into the buildings. So there are going to be tons of teams that don't have their live bulldog mascots. Butler's fucked.
Ohio State's unrealistic coaching wish list is a strategic 'anchoring' move
This is a great move by OSU, though, because if you just throw out the wish list that's just insane, everyone's like, okay, well, that's crazy. And then you get one of those second-tier guys that you probably were a third-tier. Yes, it's called anchoring. Anybody who's negotiated knows this. You ask for way, way more than you should get, then you'll get a little bit more than you deserve.
John Calipari will leave Kentucky for the Pelicans to escape looming NCAA sanctions
He needs to get out of town, needs to go to the NBA... The NCAA sanctions are about to hit Kentucky. That's a fact. I'm just calling that right now. So he needs to get out of town, needs to go to the NBA... Be a perfect fit for the Pelicans. You've got two of his best players from college that are playing there.
I hate that the NCAA is releasing top 16 seeds in mid-February
They are now going to try to drum up a little more intrigue to the NCAA tournament. So they're going to release the top 16 seeds starting mid-February... I hate that. Takes a little bit out of it. One of the great things about that tournament was I didn't have to spend any time thinking about it until that Sunday night.
If Brad Stevens became available, Indiana would fire Tom Crean immediately
I don't think it would matter if Indiana was good or not. If Brad Stevens became available... You just fired Tom Crean. Yeah, Tom Crean is gone.
