If you're talking about Shohei, you can literally say he was just playing against electricians. He got shut out by an electrician.

While technically true that some players on smaller nations' teams had day jobs (like the Czech electrician), it is an absurd reduction of the tournament's overall talent level.

George Springer does it again. Maybe the most clutch postseason hitter of the last, what, 15 years? Third all-time in postseason home runs now, which is pretty crazy.

George Springer currently trails only Manny Ramirez and Jose Altuve in postseason home runs, making the claim statistically grounded.

The Mariners are a team of destiny

I do feel Team of Destiny Vibes from the Mariners. Now their destiny might be to just get waxed by the Dodgers in the World Series. But I do think that Seattle's gonna get there.

The Mariners had an excellent 2025 season, winning the AL West for the first time since 2001 and reaching the ALCS. However, they lost to the Blue Jays in 7 games and did not reach the World Series.

Trea Turner leads league in hits and he didn't even get a reserve spot... say what? Christopher Sanchez should have been in over MacKenzie Gore. That makes no sense.

Turner was eventually named an injury replacement/reserve, partially vindicating the 'snub' talk, but the initial roster excluded him.

MLB is intentionally stealing home runs by making baseball seams higher

Rob Man-fraud is back. They're trying to steal dingers from you... the seams on the baseballs this year are higher than they have been in the past and it's stealing dingers away from everybody.

MLB admitted to a change in drag, though they claimed it was unintentional manufacturing variance rather than a conspiracy.

I'm diversifying. I'm gonna be fading what I project to be the three worst teams in baseball, which would be the White Sox, the Marlins, and the Rockies.

The White Sox, Marlins, and Rockies were indeed among the worst teams in MLB in 2025. Fading them (betting against them) would have been profitable overall, though individual game results varied.

The Dodgers won the 2025 World Series (beating the Blue Jays in 7 games), but they did not win 125 games. Their regular season record was around 100 wins, and they beat the Blue Jays, not the Rangers.

I mean, it's, it's going to go five. The Phillies are gonna go up 2-1. I'm going be comfortable... then the Mets are gonna have a heroic comeback in game four and then game five, they're just gonna smoke us and it's gonna be, it'll be like 4-0 Mets in game five. That's how it's gonna go.

I do think the MLB's just gonna sweep it under the rug. Of course they [will]. It's like, it's almost done. I'm telling you. I think it might be done. They're gonna reinstate Pete Rose and they'll be like under the new rules Shohei did very little wrong.

While not 'swept under the rug' in a conspiratorial sense, Ohtani was legally cleared as a victim, and MLB followed suit, allowing him to continue playing without penalty.

Craig Counsell to the Cubs is a sign the team is ready to spend and compete for World Series titles again

I also think this is the sign that the Cubs are ready to start spending and start competing for World Series again. Because you're not Craig Counsell... you don't go to the Cubs, your rival... unless you have a deal in place from Jed and Tom Ricketts being like, 'Hey, we're going for this.'

The Cubs did sign Shota Imanaga and re-signed Cody Bellinger, but they were not the biggest spenders in the league and missed the playoffs in Counsell's first year (2024).

It currently pays to be cheap in MLB because teams with the highest payrolls are all failing

The Mets fucking suck... everyone's pissed off at [Buck Showalter] and it kind of like speaks to a larger trend in Baseball This year, which is that the teams with the highest payrolls, they are all underperforming. Yeah. So you it pays to be cheap in Major League Baseball.

The 2023 Mets (record payroll) missed the playoffs, as did the Padres. The World Series featured the Rangers (high spend) but also the D-backs (low spend).

Luis Arraez chasing a .400 batting average is as electric as a home run chase

Luis Arraez of the Marlins... he was hitting 401 as of Saturday... if he ends up like, I mean hitting 400 would be insane in this day and age. Going down the stretch... those are gonna be electric games to watch. Yes. It'd be still close to 400 every single at bat. That to me is, that to me is almost as good as watching like a home run chase.

Arraez finished with a .354 average. While he didn't reach .400, the chase remained a major storyline through the summer.

Jared Kelenic is having, I think he had an awesome off-season. He's have good spring training and he might actually, you know, kind of be dangerous this year and come into his zone. So I'm actually a big Mariners fan.

Kelenic did have a much better 2023 season than previous years, posting a .746 OPS and nearly 2 WAR, though he eventually cooled off.

My preseason pick from the NL is coming on strong right now. The Phillies. Yes. The Phillies are fucking good. [It's] what happens when, when Bryce Harper stops playing for your team, you accomplish big things.

The Phillies reached the World Series in 2022, though Harper returned for the postseason and was a key contributor, somewhat contradicting the 'better without him' premise.

This designated hitter's going to slow down the game because—and I've said this before—if Tom Seaver threw more than nine pitches to the seventh, eighth, and ninth hitter... in the old National League, they would go right after [them]. In the American League, they didn't go right after [the DH]. ... It's going to slow the game down.

While the DH technically adds more competitive hitters, MLB implemented a pitch clock in 2023 which significantly reduced game times, making the pace of play argument more about the clock than the DH.

The 'Sampson Effect' causes players to perform worse when they join the Yankees and have to shave

If you have to cut your hair or shave to change your personal appearance, I bet it throws you off Sampson effect. I bet you it's almost every player that goes there... Randy Johnson shave his beard when he sucked, when he was in the eighties.

While some players declined (Randy Johnson, Cole), others like Gerrit Cole won a Cy Young (2023) despite the shaving rule.

I like the Phillies a lot. They have the reigning MVP... I think it's going to be the Phillies against the Padres in the [NLCS] and then the winner of that... I'm going to say as the real world series champion... but no, out of the AL teams, I really think this is the year the Yankees get it done. I think it's going to be the [Phillies vs.] Yankees.

The 2022 World Series was the Astros over the Phillies. PFT got the Phillies right as a participant but the result and opponent wrong.

Clayton Kershaw has the most wins in my book of any starter in the last 25 years since the wild card came around. So yeah, he's he might be the best postseason pitcher out there of all time.

Ironically, Kershaw went on to pitch very well in the 2020 World Series, winning two games and finally getting his ring, making the sarcasm age strangely.

Chris Sale's Tommy John surgery timing is good because he'll get a 'free year' of recovery during the pandemic

I feel like it's a good thing because the MLB season probably never going to happen. So he's going to be able to basically get a free year. He's going to get all the rest and recovery he needs.

Sale missed the entire 2020 season, but the season did happen (60 games). He also missed most of 2021, so the 'free year' didn't fully bridge him back to health.

I am in on the proposed 14-team MLB playoff format

I personally, it's crazy. It's stupid. And I know baseball purists will hate it. But from a fundamental level of making September more enjoyable, making a lot of markets still feel like they have a shot, having just more playoff baseball... and eliminating the one game playoff that always kind of feels like it screws someone over. I'm kind of in on this.

The MLB eventually expanded the playoffs to 12 teams (6 per league) in 2022, a variation of the 14-team proposal discussed here.

Tim Tebow is better at baseball than Michael Jordan was

Better than Jordan at baseball, yeah. Oh, the stats will bear me out.

Jordan hit .202 in Double-A; Tebow peaked at a .273 Triple-A average but struggled after. Statistically, it's a debatable claim but Tebow reached a higher level.

David [Ross] has always been that leader on the team anyway... what they did was was you know, they didn't let a superstar get outside of the team. So I think when you understand what he was as a player who he was him stepping into the manager role, it's not I don't think it's really going to be much different for him.

Ross managed the Cubs from 2020-2023, leading them to one playoff appearance in the shortened 2020 season but ultimately being replaced by Craig Counsell after failing to make the playoffs in three full seasons.

Strasburg's gonna throw 15 strikeouts minimum. They're going to win Game 6... Justin Verlander is going to get embarrassed.

The Nationals won Game 6, but Strasburg had 7 strikeouts, not the 15 predicted.

Cole pitched well in Game 5 (1 ER in 7 IP), but he took the loss in Game 1 (5 ER in 7 IP). Overall, he was solid but not overwhelmingly dominant in the series loss.

I bet every over in baseball this weekend thinking that the heat would help it... the ball just goes out farther when it's hot... the air is thinner.

While heat does increase flight distance, 'betting every over' is rarely a profitable long-term strategy.

Mic'ing up baseball players might actually save baseball

We were watching and they had someone at bat who was mic'd up. I think it was Freddie Freeman. And I have to admit, I think it might save baseball. With all that said, it could definitely save baseball.

While it didn't 'save' baseball from its regional nature, mic'd up segments have become extremely popular and a staple of Sunday Night Baseball.
